The Maloofs strike me as impetuous and not overly bright by big business standards. After all, they didn't build a fortune, they inherited one and seem firmly on a course toward squandering it. They've been convinced that the grass is greener in Anaheim and that it will magically turn their franchise around and no one is going to change their minds at this point. Our only hope is that they're bluffing (which i really doubt at this point), that the Anaheim deal falls through somehow, or that by some miracle the league doesn't approve the move.

Yeah that is their new market welcoming them to their new home. They point out some of the same flaws in this move than we've also noted. But they are in LA and we are just the bitter jilted fans here. Nobody will pay attention to what we are saying, but how do you reconcile guys in your own area saying the same things? I think the Maloofs have vastly overrated their potential fanbase down there. I'm sure they think the money is all there and ready to flow into their pockets... elite free agents waiting to sign there... the adoring fans ready to toss a half century of Laker love for the new team because?

I guess no one has told John Ireland that there is no arena in Seattle for the Kings, either. Other than that, I was surprised they poo poo'd the idea of the Kings in OC as much as they did. Usually ESPN is supportive of the largest markets. Usually, I hate espn, but those bozos are more or less right.

It is difficult to be rational but I think you are absolutely correct; there shouldn't be three teams in one market. However they need to do more and that is provide some support so that there is monetary support for teams like the Kings so it becomes a sport for the entire country and not just for the rich areas.

If three can go to one market and it works, then Chicago deserves two more and New York deserves another. Stern has a dream of bringing the NBA to the whole world but so far, if three teams end up in one area, it will show that the NBA can't survive in the US, just a few select cities.

This came up in another thread. I won't repeat my whole post, but I don't think they would be dumb enough (or the NBA would be dumb enough) to let them bring it to a vote unless they know they had the votes in place. That process should be a formality.

Lowest payroll = more money to attract free-agents, plus Reke and Cousins (and Thornton now) gives much potential for the future.

Los Angeles is not Orange County. I lived in OC for a few months, and while I never got a chance to really go into Los Angeles, I observed a clear distinction between OC and LA. If you are a free agent, you would admittedly have much more desire to sign for a team in the OC more than in Sacramento, so that can't be discounted. The only thing I agree with the second writer on that ESPN article is that the Clippers should have been the ones to move to Aneheim, but that's no reason for the Kings to not give it a shot if they have to relocate.

If you think the Kings will continue to have the lowest payroll in the league after they move to Anaheim, you are mistaken. As SOON as they move and the new CBA is done, I expect them to pump out the $$$ to attract new season ticket holders.
