if okafor has a breakout year good for him. to be perfectly honest i dont think anyone wants okafor... if we lose out on a mini-big with a long contract i wont lose any sleep. if they get a better option then fine, but a 10 million doallr trade exemption isnt that bad.

i'll bet that he doesnt, paul will be out for at least 2 weeks, the hornets suck... and i dont see where that will change anytime soon. lets at least wait until the trade deadline. we might get a better option than okafor, id rather have someone else... almost anyone else(at the same position with a smaller contract) to be perfectly honest. we arent thye luckiest team in the world when it comes to our highest paid player, they always get injured. i said that earlier in this thread but i think its worth repeating....

our past highest paid players....

webber, injured his knee...
miller, injured his foot and broke his leg
bibby, injured his wrist in a preseason game
martin, injured his ankle last season and broke his arm this season.

okafor... do you guys really want to be stuck with him? it will happen... and i will say i told you so, right before i become a full time lebron fan... right now he's just my favorite player. but after geoff screws this up. i will follow lebron where ever he goes. i waited through the webber trade fiasco, im cool with evans being our future whatever he becomes... pg/sg whatever. he's a good player. but with beno, nocioni and possibly okafor? thats too much. maybe if i lived in sacramento and had season tickets i would deal with it. but i enjoy basketball way too much to have to sit through this every year. trades for the sake of making trades never work out. i thought that petrie would have learned his lesson.

you guys can learn to love our next injured player, you are a better man than i am. i pay too much for league pass to spend it watching a team screw themselves over. i remember when thomas first got here, he put up pretty good numbers, like 14/8.... but i knew that in the end it wasnt going to work and it didnt.

Spoken like a true fan! :D:D

after acquiring thomas, corliss and skinner we were supposed to have movable pieces to improve our team later on. we got worse every year afterwards and now with that nightmare almost over petrie might flip that into another 5 years of lets wait and see what happens level mediocrity. **** that. id rather take a risk in free agency than sit through this again.

who here honestly believes that a starting lineup of evans/martin/nocioni/thompson/okafor can win a playoff series in the west? we wouldnt be top 4 so we wont have hca... we wont have a superstar to carry us if/when we fall behind and the best player coming off the bench is beno...

we wont have any capspace for the foreseeable future and within 3 years will have either none of our young players or 75 million in salaries... we will have to resign thompson, hawes and evans eventually and when that happens we will still have beno, nocioni, martin, garcia and okafor thats 40+ million for those 5 people... 6 for beno, 6 for garcia, 7 for nocioni, 10 for martin and 12 for okafor.

okafor is a good player for what he is... but for 5 yrs at 11 mill a yr isnt worth it.

I'd kill myself if I were you. Its so much fun when your miserable...:D:D

I've been thinking about it...
I think we should do it.

K9 + Hawes for Okafor and unprotected 1st round draft pick(for some reason I don't think they have one?)

Doubt they'd do it though... Chances are they do want a Hawes/Greene/Casspi to come along...

There's some fantastic discussion going on here. I decided to add a poll to see where the majority stands - and I waited because I think I may not be the only one who has potentially changed his/her mind.

:)

Naw, I was orginally against it, but after listening to some discussion, I changed my mind..:)

The point is to win a championship. How can you watch and root for a team with the hopes that someday they will win a championship if you're convinced that their highest paid player is doomed.

I don't feel like looking it up, but I'd imagine that there has never been an NBA championship won where the teams highest paid (and therefore one of their main contributing) player was either out with an injury, or received an injury which seriously crippled their career.

You continue to talk about not wasting the cap space in the hopes of bringing in a major player with that cap space. If you're convinced that whomever we do end up bringing in will get seriously injured I just can't figure out why you'd even care one way or the other as to who we brought in.

For heavens sake, don't try and apply logic to anything he says. You'll drive yourself crazy..

Mi amigo, your missing the whole point of the trade for the Hornets. Their trying to get rid of salary, not aquire it. The only reason they would trade Okafor for Thomas is because Thomas is an expiring contract. The last thing they want to do is add salary coming their way in the deal.

so do you finally see where im coming from? hell i cant even add a smilie to my thread because you have 2 in each of yours. i would have to make 2 different posts just to add 1 smilie...

Its called one upsmenship. You just have to plan ahead..:D:D

Hey, if we have to take back some major salary to get the best point guard in the game...I'm okay with that.
You combine their two salaries and we'd have to trade our whole team to match.

No, 'fraid its just going to be Peja. Don't think Geoff ever wanted to get rid of him in the first place, and there has been entirely too much hustle and scrap around here for the last week or two.

Might be some throw ins of course. Darius Songaila...Bobby Brown...be like old home week. ;)

Then of course comes the separate David West for JT swap, because West shoots purty and is small, so that trumps of course.

But Cp3? Dream on. ;)

He did play briefly in game one. Just for a little rah rah...

he was injured though... its too bad that webber couldnt have inspired the kings back in 2003 to beat the mavs once he went down or against the twolves in 2004....

I find it increasingly funny that people are scared off by the size of Okafor's contract.

I have one question for you, how is this any different to the potential FA signing in the summer? We are not going to sign anyone unless we overpay in terms of money per season and the length of the contract.

A valid point in this discussion. Yes, Okafor's contract is pretty big. How would it differ from what we would offer Bosh or someone else? Wasn't Vlade's contract pretty big?

The addition of Okafor will certainly change the team dynamic, and create a problem for opposing teams...at least when they're trying to make a last second 3 pointer to win the game. Besides, it's not like we're getting a lot of point production from the 5 spot, anyway. ;)

Haha, I was mostly joking, though the idea that Geoff just might do a JT for West trade scares me a little.

This was such a happy thread until you went and ruined it. As much as I was a Peja fan at one time. That was then, and this is now. Please dear God. Just make it Okafor..

The point a lot of us seem to be missing here is that we don't even have enough money to drop a max contract on someone unless we make some moves. Even if we did, we are not getting a superstar. We might be able to snare a player thats a level or 2 below for max or close to a max contract.

I still stand by my claim that if Okafor was a FA this summer, we would need to drop a 5 year deal starting at $11-12 million and increasing every season for the duration of his contract.

Ehhh its a moot point now with Amicks Tweet about it not coming to anything. Oh well it was a fun 15 pages while it lasted.

I noticed throughout the thread that the same people against Okafor coming are some of the same people that were against the drafting of Tyreke Evans. starting to wonder if they just say the opposite of everybody else just to stir things up or are they really that bad at judging NBA talent. hmmm

But they'd be adding a prospect Center on a rookie contract. They're trying to cut salary, but I think they don't think Okafor is a fit in NO's. I have trolled some of the Hornets boards since this trade has come up and they really believe Spence could be Brad Miller 2.0 and it excites more then a few of them to have that type of prospect come in.... I think it's something they'd consider (we might have to take someone back though)

There was never a chance of this happening, not with the current state of Vegas. Business has picked up some, but no where near what it was 3 years ago.

MGM corporation already sold Treasure Island and is looking for a buyer.

Stations casinos is in danger of defaulting and the Sands Corporation has already filed for bankruptcy.

But to look on the bright side with the coming commercial real estate implosion we will have our pick of whatever Clippers we want. Sorry Donald Sterling. Expect a Beno for Kaman trade next off season ;)

Once Martin and Francisco get back.

Sac. Outgoing: Beno + Noc.

NOH: Outgoing Peja + Bobby Brown + Unprotected 1st.

Now you know you couldn't say no to that. ;)

And then wiht both Martin and Peja teamed together we could go get Charmin to sponsor the new arena. :p

And I could go back to using the Sta-puf Man with the gold Kings jersey as my avatar...

Amick started the rumor with a tweet and now has apparently said it's not going to come to anything...Basically I think it just might have been "Much Ado about Nothing" all along, but that's just a guess.
