Early look at 2014 (split)

Hall of Famer
What are you talking about? McLemore went 7th in a draft that is far, far weaker than next years. Unless I'm missing your point...

ahhh the annual this high school kid is gonna be this and that. ok obviously you win. you have way to much input to base your argument on. I mean he was going against some of the greatest talent in the world and had a bottom locker.

What a bizarre post.

What a bizarre post.

I am fascinate each year by the posters that automatically know that a highschool kid is going to be "the next lebron". has not happened yet btw. curious who had this precious tag last year after the 2012 draft? I think it was Tony Mitchell. 2nd round pick if i'm not mistaken.

Well now it seems you've just resorted to making stuff up, so at this point I'm going to bow out of this particular part of the discussion.

You just compared tony Mitchell to Andrew wiggins. That's fun.

as fun as comparing a highschool kid to the #7 pick in the 2013 nba draft.

No it's not. Wiggins is being called the next lebron James level talent. Tony Mitchell was a possible lottery pick with huge question marks even when scouts were intrigued.

You made a bad comparison to try and prove a valid point.

I believe that would be Shabazz. Lottery pick if I'm not mistaken.

P.S. You compare Tony Mitchell to Andrew Wiggins? Heh, that's a good one.

I would without a doubt swap McLemore now for Wiggins next year. There's literally no doubt in my mind. Maybe you wouldn't, but that says more about your own bias than anything else. Wiggins is not going to be better than LeBron, but he has legit superstar talent. As in an elite level player, in the company of the top 5 players in the NBA. Meanwhile you are making it out to be an outrageous claim to rate Wiggins higher than a number 7 pick in a weak draft - someone who hasn't even stepped foot on an NBA court. I think I know who the crazy one is here.

BTW, that's not a criticism of McLemore. I really like him. But Wiggins he is not.

bias? really? thats what you think? explain what sort of bias could i possibly have in this particular discussion?? if you don't post anything else your entire life. explain that to me

Next year's top 5 are all preceived to be All-Star type players. Wiggins and Randle are looked at the next LeBron.

Wiggins, Randle, and Parker will change the balance of the NBA, with Andrew Harrison, Marcus Smart, Wayne Selden, Dante Exum, Joel Embiid and Aaron Gordon not far behind. There's also a bunch of other quality players; Willie Cauler-Stein, Glenn Robinson III, Dario Saric, Gary Harris, James McAdoo, Noah Vonleh, Doug McDermott, Mitch McGary, Isaiah Austin, Dakari Johnson, Aaron Harrison and Spencer Dinwiddie. And that's just off the top of my head!!! It's going to be so epically loaded. A lot of the mid-round prospects from next year probably would've gone lottery this year. If we lose our 2014 pick to the Cavs (thank you, Geoff) we have GOT to get back into. Trade anyone besides Cuz and Mac. Anyone. It doesn't matter. We'll be replacing them with a young talent at half the price and twice the talent.

come on you can look past that right? look at the things he can do with the ball for his size (6'8). his handles are insane for his size, his athleticism is ridiculous, he can shoot the long shot......

i saw all that shooting over a 5'7 white SF backed up by a 6'3 center in most of his games. then he scores 7 points when he plays an all star game against more equal talent.

I get mocked for thinking a guy who "has not even stepped foot on a NBA floor" is going to be good and the basis of the mocking is compared to a guy who has not stepped foot on a college floor? I am the idiot here for seeing flaw in that?

Are you not old enough to remember the 2003 draft?

Good thing you aren't a scout. You would think LeBron would be a role player coming out of high school.

You r not alone. Trying to project what kind of potential an unproven kid has is really difficult and a lot of hype is created by the media. Wiggins might be a special talent, but he still can have problems playing on nba level. Each draft year there are players considered (super)stars by some analyst or scout. Some manage to fulfill the expectations, some dont.
I like your more relaxed approach to this whole business.

No. There really isn't a draft every year that has superstar potential players. The 2014 draft will be seen as the best draft since the 2003 draft, easily. We're talking about potential franchise players in the top 5 alone.

lol yeah thats it. my 17 year kid says high btw.

I may be counting my chickens before they hatch. but you guys are counting chickens before the eggs are even laid.

This isn't a normal draft, any of the players in the top 5 next year would have been a CLEAR #1 pick in this years draft. Even Marcus Smart could have went #1 this year and I'm not even sure if he makes it in the top 5 next year.

Yeah, it's not easy to determine how good a player is out of high school. But sometimes, there are players who are just on a different level; who are just so dominant, who have all these amazing traits that you just know they'll be great. Lebron was one of them. Kobe. Garnett. Jermaine O'Neal, who was a terrific player while he was in his prime. All these players get the hype for a reason.

No you don't. Learn to read.

No it's not, because your first premise was completely made up.

all I said was Maclemore would be top 5 talent next year. I got bashed for that. My bad. I didn't realize that the kid had reached his ceiling. I still don't understand where I am bias though as if i got something out for Wiggins?

how was my premise made up? all i said was Mac would be top 5 next year. why is that so wrong. Isn't the premise of a mock draft 1 year from now pretty much made up? you're guessing just as much if not more than i am.

Everybody needs to at least pretend to be civil. It's hotter than Hades in Northern California right now, temperatures and emotions are high because of the Evans trade and other related discussions, and people are getting on each other's nerves. Could we just TRY to maintain a modicum of civility?

I had not idea saying Maclemore would be a high pick in NEXT years draft #7 this year would create such a animosity toward the guy. apparently these guys love their high school basketball.

I'm not going to get into this further, but it's pretty simple.

This draft was one of the weakest in a long while. Even so, McLemore dropped to 7.

Next years draft class is the strongest in the last decade. There are a pile of fantastic prospects, whether you want to acknowledge that or not is your prerogative. Every prospect had to play against HS competition at some point so your point of "HS competition" really is a bad one.

How is it realistic to think that McLemore would go higher next year, a year older, in a draft class stacked with far more superstar talents than this one (which really didn't have any)? That's just not a reasonable position to take whatever way you look at it.

I took exception because you said I was ridiculing you for thinking McLemore would be a good player. Absolutely nowhere did I even insinuate such a thing, so I don't know why you said that. My post was solely addressing the idea that McLemore would go higher in next years draft which is highly, highly unlikely. Nowhere did I say McLemore won't be a good player or that I dislike him as a prospect. So either you misread my post in the first place, or you simply misunderstood what I was saying. I don't like having my views represented, that's all.

Now we can all go back to being old buddy old pals.
