Well I'm almost glade you went with McHale Brickie. Do we get to count his exploits as GM as well? :p

As for my pick

drexler13.jpg

Clyde "The Glide" Drexler

Lets take a review of the Mr. Drexler's career. Only averaged 20 7 and 7 for his career. Voted of the 50 greatest players and was on that cute little team the US put together for the 92 Olympics.

Led his team to the finals 3 times, finally breaking through in 1995 as a 6 seed while with the Rockets. Had a little help from a friend there (See: The Dream).

Long, athletic, slasher. Decent shooter later in his career. His athleticism with Barkley and Shaq inside should work nicely.

That's another that I was choosing between with my last pick. Went with Gervin because I figured he was a better scorer than Drexler, which I think he is. Time will tell if it works out for me though. Great pick

With the 9th pick of the 3rd round of the Kingsfans Draft.. Larry89 Selects....

WALT "CLYDE" FRAZIER

bb_400x300_image.jpg

Position: PG
Height: 6' 4'' Weight: 200

A Suffocating defender, great passer, great scorer.
As a Knicks player, Frazier scored 19.3 points per game, played in seven NBA All-Star Games, and was named to four All-NBA First Teams and seven NBA All-Defensive First Teams. He is especially remembered for his inspirational performance in the seventh and deciding game of a thrilling 1970 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Frazier later spent portions of three seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, ending his career in 1979 with a lifetime average of 18.9 points per game in 825 regular-season games and 20.7 points per game in 93 playoff contests. But it was with the Knicks that Frazier helped redefine the character of professional basketball, significantly boosting its popularity in New York and beyond.

Possessing exceptional peripheral vision and quick hands-"faster than a lizard's tongue," commented one opponent-Frazier began delighting New York fans with sudden steals and lightning passes. "The great thing about Clyde are his hands, his anticipation," Holzman told Sport. Added teammate Bill Bradley, "[Frazier] is the only player I've ever seen [whom] I would describe as an artist, who takes an artistic approach to the game."

In the decisive seventh game at Madison Square Garden, Reed hobbled dramatically onto the court, long enough to score the first two baskets of the game. Then he turned the spotlight over to Frazier, who responded with one of the greatest performances ever in a Finals Game 7: 36 points, 19 assists and five steals -- including a celebrated heist from West that devastated the lakers morale.

Elected to Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (1987); NBA champion (1970, '73); All-NBA First Team (1970, '72, '74, '75); All-NBA Second Team (1971, '73); Seven-time All-Defensive First Team (1969-75); Seven-time NBA All-Star (1970-76); All-Star MVP (1975); One of 50 Greatest Players in NBA History (1996).

I probably would be a lot angrier for not getting a PM if I didn't have the same problem before.:D

Moses Malone

At power forward to complete an amazing twin towers, I choose Malone and I have no idea how he slipped this far. Malone:

This 6 foot 10 giant was a relentless rebounder and effective scorer who made the jump from high school to a pro career that lasted 21 years. He is a 3 time MVP. The third-leading rebounder and sixth-leading scorer in combined NBA/ABA history, he was honored in 1996-97 as a member of the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team. He was an amazing defender and was elected to a number of all defense teams.

I almost picked Moses with my last two picks.

Then once all the PG's were flying off the shelves in round two I made that a priority.
And I like Webb's passing ability on my team.

Time to inject a little Kings blood into my team, so what if it's not Sacramento, his jersey still flies in ARCO, LoungeLizard selects....

Nate "Tiny" Archibald PG

archibald_kings.jpg

This guy was Chris Paul, before Chris Paul was even born. The only player EVER to lead the league in scoring and assists in the SAME season. 34 and 11.

From NBA.com:
In an era when the game threatened to become the exclusive domain of gargantuan players, the 6-1 Archibald proved that there would always be room for a speedy, smart and creative small man.

6 time All Star
All Star MVP 1981
NBA Champion 1981
1st Team All NBA 1973, 75, 76
2nd Team All NBA 1972, 81

The 1980-81 season marked the height of Tiny's resurgence. He averaged more than 35 minutes while directing a disciplined Boston offense to a 62-20 record. Along the way he picked up the All-Star Game MVP Award and finished fifth in the league in assists with 7.7 per game. He was also named to the All-NBA Second Team at season's end.

(As an aside, I think thats Rick Adelman getting his ankle broken in the photo)

Wow, I was sure Nate had been taken...thats why I grabbed CP3. Great pick up though, LL.

Either way, I got my dominant big man, I have my terrific floor general, now its time for a perimeter defender to lock down all you guys with the early picks who got the good swingmen.

I select:

John Havlicek - SF

The guy who caused the most famous play-by-play call in NBA history

Johnny Most said:
Greer is putting the ball in play. He gets it out deep and Havlicek steals it! Over to Sam Jones! Havlicek stole the ball! It's all over...It's all over! Johnny Havlieck is being mobbed by the fans! It's all over! Johnny Havlicek stole the ball!"

I'll take him with my third. Amazing perimeter defender, deadly in the clutch, and all all-around rebounder and passer. Third in all-time rings below Bill Russel and Sam Jones with 8. Plus all this stuff:

Havlicek was another one I almost picked. I notice you conveniently left off that he missed more shots than anybody else in history :p. Great pick though, one of the best defenders ever, and probably the best conditioned too.

I just couldn't pass him up. He definitely should have been gone by the end of round 2.

Oh yeah -- it was between him and McHale on my last pick, but McHale fit what I was trying to do better. It was reaching travesty proportions to have a 3x League MVP at center getting passed over again and again however. Another ugly ugly player, but just relentless on the glass.

And Havlicek too -- finally the damn bursts on some of these all timers that have been getting passed over.

I was thinking of Havlicek when I took Wade, but I didn't really want 2 players from the same team and I would rather mix players from different teams and eras.

DERON WILLIAMS! I choose you!

meh Pippen will handle him

I'm thinking I should have picked someone else besides Frazier, I need a scorer besides duncan before I get someone to pass to a scorer..

By the way I assume our first 5 picks is our starting lineup barring multiple picks of the same position right? first player chosen at a position is in starting unit?

So I assume we will have players coming off the bench... and depending if they are used to coming off the bench..

No need for such a rule -- we are going to explain how the teams work at the end. So draft your 12th man next if you'd like. Its your team.

By the way Brick, I am sensing we are targeting the same player this round if you know what I know that I know what you know...

You aren't getting KT

Yup.

No matter where you draft your players, it is your team, which will be completely revealed in a mandatory 15th 'round'.

After you have all 14 players/coaches you will need to explain your team and how it will work as a unit.

...So draft a Pollard in the 4th if you think his chemistry is more important than skill.
Draft Jon Barry, Funderburke, Mateen Cleaves....

This is a team thing.
Remember that.
