Dorell Wright?

That's assuming nazr has zero options anywhere else on a contending team. If the money's the same, I'd much rather sit on the bench of a playoff team than sit on the Kings. Someone may want him as insurance.

Yes, I was suggesting him in case nobody wants him. it was more an hypothetical scenario.

Because Beidrins at least theoretically fills a role and has not yet failed for us.

If we resign TWill, get Wright, Salmons has no role. I also stick by my Salmons as human energy leech theory. :p

Does that mean were all in danger? I haven't got much energy left, I certainly don't need anyone leeching it.

I'm not so sure about that. In my opinion, you cannot have 12-13 guys who wants to get minutes. Someone will be unhappy and you can't build chemistry. A team works when everyone knows and is happy with his role. From the stars to the last one on the bench. I believe there should be 8-9 guys in the regular rotation, plus a couple of projects and 2-3 bench warmer, someone who can play limited minutes in case of injuries. You cannot have 7 or 8 players more or less of the same level on the bench, especially if you have a coach like Smart.

I'll take the guy wanting minutes over a project. In your scenario you have 9 in the rotation and 2-3 projects. You still need 1-2 more guys in the roster. What happens when someone gets hurt? You expect the project to fill in? You just wasted your season.

No... I said 8-9 rotation players, 2 projects and 2/3 bench warmer. That makes a 12/14 players roster. Look at how the good teams were built last season.

OKC
Rotation: Westbrook - Sefolosha - Durant - Ibaka - Perkins - Harden - Collison - Fisher - (Maynor)
Projects: Aldrich - Jackson
Bench warmers: Cook - Mohammed - Ivey - Hayward

HEAT
Rotation: Chalmers - Wade - James - Bosh - Battier - Miller - Haslem - Anthony - Jones
Projects: Cole - Pittman
Bench warmers: Howard - Harris - Curry - Turiaf

SPURS
Rotation: Parker - Ginobili - Leonard - Duncan - Jackson - Neal - Splitter - Green - Diaw - Bonner
Projects: Blair - Anderson
Bench warmers: Mills - Joseph

CELTICS:
Rotation: Rondo - Allen - Pierce - Bass - Garnett - Bradley - Pietrus - Dooling
Projects: Stiemsma - Moore - Johnson
Bench warmers: Daniels - Pavlovic - Hollins

And here's our Kings right now

KINGS
Rotation: Thomas - Evans - Thornton - Thompson - Cousins - Robinson - Outlaw - Salmons - Hayes - Williams (?) - Fredette
Projects: Whiteside - Honeycutt
Bench warmers: Garcia

If we want to add Wright, it's absolutely clear we need to move someone. This is not a balanced team in my opinion. But this is the problem: the players we want to move, are extremely hard to trade. Who wants to take Salmons or hayes for example?

OKC - Mohammed was a rotation guy played in 63 games. Cook Rotation guy, played in 57 games started 22. Jackson was in the rotation until they signed Fisher.
Spurs - Blair started 62/64 games, Mills was only signed for the last few weeks.
Heat - while cole maybe considered a project he was in the rotation playing 65 games averaged 19.5 minutes.
Celtics- Stiemsma was in the rotation 55 games at 14 mins a game.

The first flaw in your thinking is the 8-9 rotation guys. Most teams are 9-10 guys during the regular season. In the playoffs they may go 7-8.

Ok, just to be clear: I've never said that a project doesn't have to get minutes. That's my point. If you want to have 9-10 guys getting minutes, you cannot have 12-13 like the Kings right now. Projects need time on the floor to develop, and I'd like to see Whiteside getting some minutes this year. During regular season, you can even have 11 players getting minutes. But we have too many right now. So, this all argument was meant to clarify why we need to trade someone if we want to get Wright, that's all. This is the way I look at the situation right now, I know it's just my opinion and that we can disagree.

Well If you add Wright you would not add TWill in FA also so Our 14 players would be:

KINGS
Rotation: Thomas - Evans - Thornton - Thompson - Cousins - Robinson - Wright-Salmons Thats 8
Projects: Whiteside - Honeycutt
Bench warmers: Garcia, Outlaw, Jimmer(10th if guard needed) - Hayes(9th for foul trouble)

So there is your 8 rotation, 2 prospects, 4 bench warmers Jimmer and Hayes in reserve if your 3man Guard or 3man bigs need help or injured and Garcia, outlaw if SF injury

Again its pretty simple to me, Kings will either get Twill or someone like Wright, hopefully on the cheap

or they find a way to trade up in total dollars into a starting quality SF using a combination of Garcia(ender)/Jimmer/Outlaw(cheap talent?) So if a team wants an ender Garcia 6.4mil and Jimmer 2.4 mil young/potential,pick,our cap space for Iggy/Deng?

I dont think anyone will take Salmon/Hayes and they will remain expensive bench warmers/or backup

I'd like to point out, that rightly or wrongly, Jimmer is going to be a part of the rotation. He was a 1st round pick, and the Kings are giving him a lot of special attention right now to improve his game. Now unless a no brainer trade comes along and he's traded, thats the reality of the situation. We can all dream of our fantasy lineup, but the facts are, Jimmer got around 18 minutes a game last season, and if he improved over the summer, and shows that improvement in summer league and training camp, his minutes are likely to increase.

And the main reason, other than needing a real backup PG, is that he has the potential to be the best 3pt shooter on the team, and the Kings desparately need a good outside shooter.

I think that is the reality of it. I also would cut his minutes but I know that won't happen this year, at least not to start with. I suppose that's reason enough to root like hell for improvement in Jimmers game and as soon as possible.

Well I guess the question is if we go to a 4 man rotation at Guards with IT/Jimmer at PG and Reke/Thorton as SG who do you pair up for starters vs Bench? If Jimmer really can evolve and take over starting PG , Then maybe Reke and Jimmer plays in/out game and Thorton/It provide shooting and spark plug off the bench?

I actually doubt Jimmer would be part of the rotation on a normally run team. We have 3 guards in Reke, MT and IT who more than deserve every guard minute on the team. Jimmer would be the guy you spot in for a bit of shooting every once in a bit. And while he was a big liability last year overall, its not even a question fo any improvement or not with him. Its just the quality of the guys ahead of him. The minutes and shots are all accounted for. forcing extra bodies into the rotation just confuses and creates stress same as last year.

Yeah, I like Jimmer exactly where he is, competing with Salmons/Garcia for those leftover min in the backourt. Not relying on him for anything, but if he really breaks out it shouldn't be hard to give him 15 min a game.

As it stands, he will get his 7-8 min every night with everyone healthy, and with injuries and overtimes he should finish avg 10+ min on the season and many opportunities to show improvement.

Scratch Dorrell Wright off the list. Traded to Philly for a future draft pick. No idea, but guessing a second rounder.

I'm hoping it's a 1st, because we would have been able to offer a way better 2nd rd pick.

This probably means we're rolling the dice with Terrance. Watch for Geoff to bid against himself in negotiations.

That grrrs me.

The only upside would be that could well signal Iggy is available.

Philly has to be trading one their SFs. Iggy, Young, Harkless, ET, and now Wright. My guess is Iggy is being traded, and soon.

Let's see, not sure if JT is official yet, but a S&T using JT + contract(s) for Iggy could work.

why is everybody so big on Iggy at SF for us but mock the idea of Williams at SF for us. whats the size difference 1/8 of an inch also Williams is 15 lbs heavier and athleticly they are very similar. I just need an explaination please. I feel Williams is a better defender and a better and more willing passer.

T-Will in red, Iguodala in yellow. Main reason right here:

oh so we are looking for a SF that have a high 3pt % not matter how weak they are on defense? I was told earlier it was williams size. With iggy thats not the case. so if we want a weak defender that can shoot. Hell lets just put Jimmer out there at SF. I was under the absurd assumption we wanted a better defender hence the 27 page long threads on AK47 and Gerald Wallace neither of which are sharp shooters from behind the arc. So again. I ask for an explanation. do we want shooting, passing, height, defense, shot blocking WTH.

Why are you saying Iguodala is a weak defender? You do know he's one of the better wing defenders in the league, right?

Williams is an Iggy-lite, or Iggy is a Williams-supreme with a side of fries.

Iggy is just plain better than Williams...and I'm a fan of Williams.

Its true that given the same type of minutes that Iggy gets...Williams could put up as good or even better numbers than Iggy. Twill is still a bit of an unknown at this point and isn't as good a shooter as Iggy, though I wouldn't call Iggy great and Twill still has time to improve. Ideally I would really like to have both with Twill coming off the bench... it really opens up alot of match up options for us... Reke, Twill, and Iggy would be defensive monsters on the floor together... Twill had great chemistry with IT, Thorton, and Jimmer giving us one of the best bench guard rotations in the league. Of course we would still be lacking in shooting and shot blocking but the idea would be to overcompensate in every other facet of the game that we wouldn't need elite shooting or shot blocking.

Williams is still a near minimum contract kind of guy, not really in the same realm as Iggy.

Iggy is one of the best defenders in the league, Williams is solid with the potential to be very good.
Iggy is one of the top 5 passing non-pg in the league, Williams is a creative and willing passer but turns it over way too much.
Iggy is a mediocre outside shooter who shot a solid % last year, while Williams will struggle to score more points than field goal attempts.

Williams looked really good last year and is the only guy with potential to be an above avg SF. But I think he's boom or bust, 50/50 on who has a better season between him and Salmons,

Philly just acquired Wright for the rights of some Euro guy they acquired in 06...

Philly is losing Lou Williams, their undersized scorer, too.

Iggy for Thornton + (Hayes or Outlaw) would work. The 76ers have a lot of young bigs, and could use a vet. Collins would love a guy like Chuck. And the 76ers would save a little cap space in the short term.

To give up Thornton would be redundant. Give up our only 3pt shooter for another. We are still left with one. Salmons and hayes

Thornton is a great scorer, but not a great 3pt shooter . If MT was coming off the bench, between Jimmer and Salmons/Garica/Outlaw the 3pt shooting won't be much worse than last year. If MT was starting, Iggy replacing him wouldn't be a huge downgrade.

And the 76ers would have no interest in Salmons+ Hayes. Maybe Hayes + Jimmer they would consider.
