Does the Lakers-Kings rivalry still exist?

that rivalry was a one way street, and probably still is (hate-wise).
Dave, you hit the nail right on the head. Generally, Kings fans hate the Lakers just for hate's sake, and Laker fans could care less.

P.S. Remember, I said "generally." There are exceptions to every situation.

The best part is that Lakers fans go out of their way to say they dont care about us. Seems as though they feel the need to try to cram the " WE dont care, Theres no rivalry" crap whenever these threads pop up.

I have and always will hate the Lakers. Do I know why? No. Does it matter? No. But I'm here, and I'm hating them.
:confused:How can you deal with this irrationality? You can't, so you just let them have their space and hope they don't break anything.

They'll care when Artest slows/shuts down Kobe at least a couple times next season. Along with possibly battling for a division and/or playoff spot.

You know who really seemed to have Kobe's number?

Christie!

...I miss the rivalry, I think it will come back but probably not until both teams are good again (and meet in the post season).

This rivalry has always been from both sides. Anybody who is a fan of either team of 5 years or so can feel that. They don't hate us cause they have no reason **** them. If we had taken "that game" or beat them to a championship, they would "hate" us with at least as much passion as we "hate" them. I have many lakerfan friends, and whenever we talk, there is always a mutual harrasing and degrating of our teams. Even in TDOS.

GO KINGS!!!!

Doug may have been a good defensive player, but not against Kobe. Since the 1999-2000 season, Kobe has averaged 30 points vs. Christie, including the playoffs.

sports isn't exactly the best realm for rationality. ;)
I second that. I don't think fandom has anything whatsoever to do with rationality. As a matter of fact, I think fandom is an escape from rationality and reality. That's why its fun.;)

All I remember was that one game on easter where the Kings KILLED the Lakers, Doug held Kobe to like..12 our something.

Hey Hoops - what are those stats with Ron and Kobe?

I don't think that's going to be true, I see it still being around now.

Why? Artest vs. Kobe. This past season was just a sample, and not quite in true form because of Ron not being in shape. Yet, still slowed him down once, and shut him down in the 4th quarter. Ron shut/slowed Kobe down in 03-04 once (Kobe was out for the other), and once in 02-03 (was suspended the other game) just like anyone else he has before. Though Indiana as a team then were high-quality defensively, he was a large part of why. If I could get 01-02 stuff, I bet it'd be similar.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=260314023 - The last six points came late in the 4th qtr, when the game was already over, so really was 10-26 with 24 pts. Actually read Kobe got 17 off of Ron directly.

Last 3 seasons...

Here are the ones where Ron didn't play him that well:

Ron wasn't in game shape the whole time with us though, and plus that 3/22 game was on the 2nd of a back-to-back.

a lot of you guys are kidding yourselves. i have no doubt that most laker fans dont' like the spurs for sweeping them in 99 and ending their run with the kobe cries game, but there is no way their hatred is as great as mine is for the lakers because they have shut down the spurs so many more times (82, 83, 86, 88, 01 - severe beating, 02, and 05).

Clippers will become the team of LA when Jack Nicholson changes his movie making schedule to watch the clippers

They might become the team of LA when they manage to win atleast one ring

They might become the team of LA when they manage to have sellouts for their home games where the away team is not the lakers

They might become the team of LA when the kings fans talk about rivalry with the clippers and how much they hate the clippers

and finally they might become the team of LA when the lakers for some reason decide to stop playing in the nba or decide to move to another place, untill then dont hold your breadth.

I think with the history between the two teams, there will always be a rivalry of sorts. My uncle is a Lakers season ticket holder, and he says the Kings game there have a charged environment, more like a playoff environment, just because of the history and the lingering rivalry. That may just be his section or whatever, but he says there is a noticeable difference.

I know the atmosphere in Arco is heated when we play the Lakers. I know that I will root against the Lakers for a long, long time, and at LEAST as long as Kobe is there.

Is the rivalry still there? Who knows? I think it is alive in the eyes of many of the fans. As far as the players go, who knows? There are few players on either team that experienced the rivalry when it was really amazing to watch.

It's part and parcel of the very complex North v. South dynamic, Gargy.

:)

vs. Ron he scored 25 per game.

Instead of careening into the above avenue (I think I am finished with my post on page two), I will have fun with Hoopsy.

Hoops, look at Kings113's stas (thanx 113) I agree with him that we will see some fun here this year! 25 points is 10 less than last years average for him. I say in games with Ron, he will average 15-20 points this year. :D
