Does the Lakers-Kings rivalry still exist?

Grew up in LA. There was a NoCal/SoCal rivalry/hatred before there was a Kings/Lakers rivalry. Part of the basis for Giants/Dodgers rivalry. I ALWAYS want to beat LA.

LA fans like to say there's no rivalry (its not cool), but they sure waste an awful lot of their time on us, dreaming up new insults and denying that we have any importance to them. ;)

As to whether two teams have to be at the top, or contending, or meet in consecutive playoffs. By that definition there hasn't been a Redsox/Yankees rivalry most of the time...somebody ought to tell them. ;)

BEAT LA!

HMMMMM. let me think.
Last time I was at Arco, someone was wearing a kobe Jersey a few rows up and they were gettin hammered. The guy next to me even yelled "Kobe is a Rapist". Kind of harsh, but was I laughin'? You bet.

I thought it was perfect that we were still battling with them for the 7th place spot last year. Suckers won again. We will get our chance!!!!!

If the rilvary is over, than why do I still have my derogatory banter going on with the laker fans that I know.

You must realize it is more than the million good reasons we have to hate the lakers, LA has no business being there in the first place and is just unpleasant. Did you know that in school they have "smog days" in which it is deemed unsafe to have physical education?

I do not mean to offend, but LA has always been miserable for me!

LA requires northern California water to survive. During the drought years, I just hated seeing all those full swimming pools.

My brother went to UCLA and was an avid bicyclist and mountain backpacker. His dorm room was on the second floor and on smog alert days, he'd get a bit breathless climbing the stairs. There were times during a smog alert when he could not see the dorm building across the way out of his window.

Now, mind you, Sacramento is no great shakes in the clean air department and actually has the potential to be worse than LA. Hopefully, it never gets that bad.

When I grew up in LA, we didn't like SF, because LA folk thought (probably somewhat true) that SF folk looked down on LA as a cultural wasteland and utterly tasteless. SF folk were considered snobs. (Sound familiar? ;))

EDIT: Having been in this area for nearly 4 decades, I would not go back down south, at least not LA.

Doh... (in my best Homer voice)
I am sorry. I realize that Sac probably has those too :o . But you must realize that I live in Truckee for a reason. If I had to pick a city, Sac would not be at the top of my list (no offense), but LA would most certainly be at the bottom.

Truth be told, I joined Kingsnation in that playoff series that we all hope to forget. Not as a Kings Fan, but more as a lakers hater. I am probably indebted to them (in a way that I will never fully acknowledge), because of course, Kings Fever caught on. But I originally was drawn to them because of their potential to BEAT LA and I immediately (and prematurely it tuned out  ) starting talking sh** to all the laker fans that I knew. And I have not stopped since. In my world, the rilvalry lives on!!!!!!

GO KINGS!

i thought its not a rivalry unless both teams made it at least once

and in this case, kings never have

teams & fans might hate each other, but there is absolutely NO RIVALRY

A rivalry is one of those things that exists if you want it to.

Oh, yeah.

:o

Hey, wait! That's not fair. You get to hate me for TWO teams and I only get to hate you for one!!!

;)

You are new here. If You stick around long enough - You will learn certain things

Like what? never moving on? something that was buried along ago? we can hate the Lakers because they did take something away from us but it's not a rivarly what are we gonna do hate on Kwame Brown? Rad-man? Mo Evans?

I don't think that's going to be true, I see it still being around now.

Why? Artest vs. Kobe. This past season was just a sample, and not quite in true form because of Ron not being in shape. Yet, still slowed him down once, and shut him down in the 4th quarter. Ron shut/slowed Kobe down in 03-04 once (Kobe was out for the other), and once in 02-03 (was suspended the other game) just like anyone else he has before. Though Indiana as a team then were high-quality defensively, he was a large part of why. If I could get 01-02 stuff, I bet it'd be similar.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=260314023 - The last six points came late in the 4th qtr, when the game was already over, so really was 10-26 with 24 pts. Actually read Kobe got 17 off of Ron directly.

Also, aside from that, it's still there to a degree because of being in the same division and in California.
