Had both on my list as an either/or option but could not ignore the iconic nature of the Born in the U.S.A. album.

Ahem... I grew up in communism and trust me when I tell you: commies love the Boss! I mean all those songs glorifying everyday struggles of the working class? Even Lenin would approve.
I get it though, Springsteen seems to be one of those artists who is either adored or completely dismissed, no middle ground there.

Kanye West - The College Dropout (2004)
Well, I didn't think it'd be here. I'm not Kanye's biggest fan because I think some of his tracks can get a little annoying. But, I do like him. This album has some great songs such as "Never let me down" and "Jesus walks". I think this is a value pick. Staying with the whole hip hop vibe, but it's really a very good album. Kanye is a good rapper when he wants to be, and a great producer.

Plenty of others have taken a rap album. I'm just the only one doing it consistently. And considering how well the album did and how well known Mr. West is, I'm surprised it hasn't been taken.

Less than half the people in the draft have taken any rap, and you're the only one who's taken more than one rap album. I think that, based on that, it's more than fair to say that you're basically the only guy taking rap right now.
My point being that rap has not been nearly popular enough in this draft to justify your surprise.

My surprisement has nothing to do with the genre, it's got to do with the fact that Kanye West is very popular and mainstream and his best album hasn't even been mentioned. I simply didn't think it'd be around in the 5th or 6th round. Nothing more to it than that.

Well, I had 4 rap albums high on my draft list. Three of them got snagged from me and I took 2001 since it was still hanging around.
I have a few I am still going to pick in a couple later rounds, if they stay.
Actually, rap was basically 75% of what I listened to until about 5 years ago...so I could be going wild with some childhood favorites, but I now realize the value of a lot of these rock albums that are just pure classics.

This was my hardest pick by far. There were about 5 albums I really wanted to use here, but ultimately I went with this one:
Michael Jackson- Bad
I figured I would take this before it's off the table and save some of my safer picks for later. Thriller was his best, but when this came out I was 6 and trying my hardest to be like Michael frickin Jackson. One of the biggest of the 80's, this album went on to sell over 32 million records. With tracks like The way you make me feel and smooth Criminal, having Michael's second best album is better than having none at all.

Wow...I had "Bad" on my list but I'm cool with it leaving ahead of me...I may regret it later tho lol...maybe this is where I start to go more to things that mean a lot to me for some reason or another...
But here's where I had to go right now...since I just bought the remastered edition of the album a couple of years ago...
Street Songs – Rick James 1981
There was something contraband about this album, maybe it was the hip boots, the the braids, the blatant references to drug paraphenalia, the lyrics...I dunno – something about owning it had a special meaning lol.
One of my older cousins had this when it first came out, I had heard “Give It To Me Baby” and “Superfreak” on the radio, and I remember my mother being appalled at the videos for same and I would always get the "WHAT are you listening to" from her . So I of course dubbed the whole album from the cassette my cousin had in her car. In what ranks as one of the all time greatest duets ever, “Fire and Desire” with Teena Marie, this album lit it up…no pun intended because James certainly wasn’t shy about what may have been passed around the studio during the recording. But I love this album again start to finish. This album is still good. “Ghetto Life” , “Call Me Up” and Below The Funk -Pass the J (see what I mean?) are on my ipod more than the two mega-hits – which honestly got overplayed. He kept it real about his life in BUUUFAHLOO zerodegreesbelow...But really, one needs a compilation to get the true mastery of the James the king of Punk Funk but this is a good representation of his work to tide me over on the island.

Elton John Live in Australia With the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra – Elton John (1987)
This was a must-have to satisfy my need for Elton John music on the island. Another one that I loved from start to finish when I got it. I was a Elton fan, but this introduced me to songs I had never heard before. And like my suckerness for arrangements with mass choirs, sticking an orchestra behind you rocks too. The songs that stood out to me here beyond songs I was already familiar with “Take Me to The Pilot” and “Madman Across the Water” and “Have Mercy on the Criminal” Candle in the Wind was released from this live album and “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down on Me” is one of my all time favorite Elton songs, and the orchestral support took it to another level.

Alright so it's going to be a while till i get another pick and even though some albums i need on my island might get picked up along the way i am still ok with choosing this one. My reasoning is very simple for this, RHCP are one of my favorite bands of all time and this is some of their best work. 9 years ago when this came out this CD got non stop play from me for a very long time. Otherside and Road trippin' are my favorites from this album. Sold 15 million so looks like i'm not the only one who appreciated it.

Alright so it's going to be a while till i get another pick and even though some albums i need on my island might get picked up along the way i am still ok with choosing this one. My reasoning is very simple for this, RHCP are one of my favorite bands of all time and this is some of their best work. 9 years ago when this came out this CD got non stop play from me for a very long time. Otherside and Road trippin' are my favorites from this album. Sold 15 million so looks like i'm not the only one who appreciated it.
Crapper. Was hoping this would last for a while so I could scoop it up in the 11-15 range. never was a huge Chili Peppers fan. In fact found much of their catalog flat out annoying. But loved Under the Bridge, and then this album brought them home for me with the title track, Otherside, etc.

I have a feeling he's not too popular here. But, what can I say? He's got some good songs on there, and let's face it, he's a kickass dancer
It's not just his music. From his interviews etc., that I've seen, he seems like a down to earth person. Friendly etc. and not snobby. Hard to come by in todays music industry. He's here as much for his personality as he is for his singing and dancing (well not entirely, but you get the picture).
Wow, this is getting hard. I don't know how I'm going to fill out the rest of this draft. Anyway, I'll be expecting a lot of criticism for this pick but who cares!
