Defensive Big Man Choices

My guess is there will be a trade sooner or later involving a big to backup Cuz. PDA has cleaned out the loose $$ in the closet which is now clean and ready for a body or so. Moreland could start off in Reno for 10-15 games then come down and get NBA time depending on his progress. He is the dark horse for sure and either will or won't step up in training camp. PDA might just be sitting on a Euro until the semi-finals which will then just be 2 weeks before training camp. About 18-20 bodies in training camp is about right including several destined for Reno. Sim is 30 lb away from getting any NBA time. But if he unloads the weight and keeps working out to move better and gets time at Reno, well, he can and will someday get to a next level. Or not.

I can't remember if it's been said but Miroslav Raduljica of Serbia wouldn't be too shabby as a 2nd string center. Not an awesome defensive presence but he clearly plays with a decent IQ and has good size as well. He'll likely command more than the minimum as I'm sure there's a market for him in Europe. I would only want him if he keeps the beard and I would make sure to write that into the contract.

Cannot beleive the Clippers dropped him, having him as a 4th big would be great.

Sirius XM: @Ryan Hollins tells @Bottom Line Sports Show that he's been in talks with the Heat, Kings, Bulls, Lakers, Spurs, among others as a FA. Twitter

So we are in talks? a week ago we were amoung teams interested, now we have been upgraded to "in talks"

The Thunder are interested in trading for Rondo I seen maybe we could get involved and snatch up Ibaka somehow (who I really hate in general but would be a great fit),

We get : Jeff Green, Ibaka, Perkins
Thunder gets: Rondo, Landry, Thompson
Boston Gets: Gay, Mclemore and Jones

If Boston wants to go full rebuild they just take Gay for the upcoming season and have great cap space next season.

I ask this with 100% seriousness: Is there there anyone in the NBA that you don't hate?

It's just basically Ibaka/Faried/Kantar/Jonas Val/Casspi/Houston/Clippers/OKC outside of that I like most. As a Kings fan you have to hate the Clippers and Houston/OKC are floppers so that's natural

Ibaka is one of the best defensive players in the NBA. Why on gods earth would the Thunder want to trade him? I have no doubt they would like to have Rondo, but not at the expense of losing Ibaka. I don't even want to know why you hate him.

Exactly espiscially if they can get Rondo with a package of Lamb,Jackson,Perkins

I don't see Boston getting anything out of that trade, that's a terrible deal for them imo and they could do much better. Jackson is a average PG, Lamb is soft and Perkins is the only one worth anything in that deal since he's a massive expiring deal. I don't see why Boston would take that trade. Unless the Thunder are throwing in 1st round picks no way Boston would do that unless they are literally trying to help the Thunder.

Off that topic:
I also wonder what the situation is in Denver with McGee/Mozgov is,the latter I believe would be a good fit to Cousins. If Mozgov can be had I would love him as the starting C in combo with Cousins.

I would like for you to explain to me why you say that Lamb is soft. If you want to say he needs to get stronger, then I'd agree. But when Lamb played for UCONN, he got the assignment of guarding the best perimeter player on the other team. Why? Because Lamb was the best perimeter defender on the team. The knock on Lamb then, and to some extent now, is that he tends to become passive on the offensive of the ball at times, despite the fact that he's a very good shooter. Now if your talking about Doron Lamb, then I would agree, but not Jeremy Lamb. Perkins is a player that 5 years ago, I would have lusted after. But unfortunately, he's just a shell of his former self. He was never a great athlete, and now he's lost a lot of the athleticism he once had. Although he was a fan favorite in Boston, I seriously doubt that Ainge would want him back. So I agree with you that Boston would never make that trade.

I'm hoping we can get Hollins in. Might be the perfect backup 5 for Malone's fluid offensive approach. Without JT and add Hollins, the kings will become a track team.

Well, you got your wish. Kings agree in principal to get Ryan hollins.

On my phone but I got the bleachers report notification

Lamb has that Derrick Williams thing where he floats in and out of games and like Williams I have never seen him dive for a loose ball or win a hard 50/50 ball, what's his defence in the NBA been like cause whenever I have watched him it's not really been anything worth remembering. He has not really done much if anything during his time in the NBA despite being talented. When I have watched I him I have thought it's a confidence/not going hard enough thing which I link to softness.

Taj Gibson privately unhappy about coming off the bench again....I doubt anything comes of it but worth posting http://www.csnchicago.com/bulls/bull...rucial-success
I saw that as well. I've stated many times that he would be one of the best compliments we could next to Cousins. He can shoot, he can defend the post, he can defend quicker PFs, his defensive rotations are good, he's a good shotblocker, he's a good rebounder, he's long, and he's athletic. The only thing he is really missing is elite shot blocking. He's a good shotblocker which I still think will make a difference (especially if Cousins continues to progress as a shotblocker).

No idea what kind of attractive deal we could offer.

Has anybody heard anything about Emeka Okafor's rehab? He seems to be the only remaining big man that the Kings might have a shot at in free agency (maybe a sign and trade with the Suns).

Not anything lately. I think it would be a waste of a roster space. He's a vet, but wouldn't bring much to the team. It would be like JET on the roster still.

Here are a few guys that do come to mind that would be great for our team:

C Timofey Mozgov(28 yearolds)big body in the paint and can score or rebound. He'll be able to contest shots and it would fit perfectly into our position-less basketball. He will be able to provide a lot of points for the team. He's an efficient scorer.

C Jeff Withey(24 yearolds) will provide defensive presence. He's a very good shotblocker, but has a limited offense.

If the Suns couldn't work their magic on Emeka being healthy, I don't know what it would look like here...plus he's going on a contender if he's going anywhere, not here.

Kyle O'Quinn is going to be a restricted free agent next year. I have only seen him play a handful of times but he seems like he would be a good pairing with Cousins. His measurables are good (6'10", 7'5" wingspan, 32 inch vert, and 240 lbs). He's a good rebounder and shotblocker while staying efficient offensively. It also looks like he can knock down a mid range jumper to help spread the floor.

His per 36 stats for last season:
.501 FG% / .687 FT% / 13.0 PPG / 11.0 RPG / 2.4 APG / 1.2 SPG / 2.7 BPG / 2.4 TOPG --- not to mention he shot 51% from 10-16 ft and 40% from 16ft or longer.

That's the kind of clip I want to see out of our starting PF. I would be happy if the Kings went after him next offseason as a long term fit (only 24) next to Cousins.

Can also replace Quincy Acy's beard I really like his game underrated passer as well.

I doubt there's anyone that wouldn't love to have Gibson, but that's unlikely to happen. However, I do think that's the kind of deal the Kings are looking for. I think they originally had Josh Smith in their sights, but the Monroe situation killed any chance for a deal. At least in the short term. I think the Kings are looking for a big splash at PF (Which Smith would have been) and barring that, they'll look within the organization, or try and bring in a young player with potential (Moreland). For that reason, I don't think we'll see any more deals before the regular season, and maybe not until just before the trade deadline.

Shot blockers that can also play good team defense are hard to find, and when a team has one, they usually hang onto him.

The major emphasis on "team defense" changes the need for specific defensive bigs. Any big who can switch off one or more times to prevent his man from doing what he wants can be more valuable than a one-dimension rim protector. Making it difficult for an opponent big to get off a good shot reduces the need for a pure shot blocker.

I agree with bajaden that a trade may be awhile in coming until PDA/Malone can get what they need depending on progress of their current player pool. For example what happens IF Sim drops 30-40 lb by January and becomes able to get up and down as well as defend and score 10 a game off the bench? Or Moreland adds muscle and improves his defending say by end of December? Too many unanswered questions about our bigs right now and JT and ....

I don't get it. Fesenko was made out to be a fat ass around here. Looks to be in decent shape to me. Also extremely motivated given the conflict in Ukraine and the ability to bring his family over, which relies on NBA success. I really don't get it when Sim showed up with a spare tire around his waist and some brushed it off.

Instead, we had Reggie at backup center today which just will not work.
