Dam These Gas Prices!

i did some calculations and i found out i pay around 125 dollars a month for gas give or take....

125 x 12 = 1500 dollars!

I agree. I have a small car and when I first got it (4 years ago) $9 would fill up my tank, now it takes about $25. I don't know how people with SUVs do it and they say by the summer it will be up to $3 a gallon It's just ridiculous.

An SUV really, really has to be worth it just to pay those high gas prices. I think I would rather drive around in one of those old wood-paneled station wagons before I would ever own one of those money-guzzlers! They are a very nice ride, but I don't know if they're worth the enormous gas costs.

Those wood paneled station wagons were usually equipped with an equally horrible guzzling V-8 that probably got around 12-16 mpg. Not much better than what SUV's are getting today.

By the way, Chrysler's new V-8 can switch to four cylinders when engine is not requiring full power. They get around 30 mpg's on the freeway.

I remember when it was .29 a gallon...and that was in orange county, so my dad used to drive over to visit my grandma..and fill up at the same time.

gas prices are beyond silly at this point. i am 19 years old, and even i remember when gas was $1.65/gallon...and this is in roseville, the height of suburbia hell.

Unfortunalty the good news is also the bad news... enjoy this reletivly CHEAP gas while you can because it is not likely to be going down. Sure there will be market flucuations but over the long run it is very likely oil prices will just contenue to go up. i remember when i first started driving 6 years ago, it cost about 15 to fill up the car. i remember complaining about gas being 1.89. oh the days. i think gas cost about 1.50ish when i started driving.

i'm so glad i live in a small town right now. i walk to work everyday, the only place i've been driving is the gym. i can't wait until the end of the month, i do have to drive home ( the bay area from oregon, i bet round trip i'll spend around 100 dollars on gas) i can finally get my bike and i'll be set for summer.

my goal is to say **** you to the gas companies, ride my bike everywhere, save money, save air pollution, and get some excersise. i hope the high gas prices inspire people to ride bikes or walk more, it's really a great thing. maybe not to work, but maybe to drop a letter off at the post office, to say hi to a friend, wherever. cutting out small trips in the car really can make a difference to your gas tank

i'm paying 2.65 right now. i know bay area prices are much higher then that, but you have to keep in mind i'm not making as much money working in a small town as i would be if i were living in a big city, so the high prices are effecting me just as much. so screw them!!!!!!!!!!!

oh i know. i was in france a few years ago, and they were paying around 3 dollars a LITER over there. everyone walks over there, it's no surprise why everyone is so skinny over there. the public transportation is really good as well.

We should be far more worried about C02 production than oil depletion. We can make petroleum products out of coal, and there is plenty of that. However, the problem with making gasoline from coal is that it releases far more C02 into the atmosphere than making gasoline from petroleum does. CO2 emissions are also higher when converting oil shale and sands, another plentiful resource, into gasoline than it is when made from conventional crude oil.

We'll destroy the climate before we run out of fuel for our cars.

Has anyone read The World is Flat? I'm a big fan of Thomas L. Friedman. I don't want to politicize the discussion at all, but his idea to create a "gas race"-- ie make America free from reliance on oil in 10 years much like the space race was to put an American on the moon in 10 years--is spot on.

That's freaky though, I also drive a Jeep (Grand Cherokee) and work 4 1/2 miles from home. It's a good thing I live so close to work, it costs me almost $60 to fill my tank right now and I can get about 280 miles out of that.

The fact that I live three blocks from work would be a lot nicer if I didn't have to grab the car for daily bank/post office runs. Getting gas all the time feels wasteful, even though work pays for it.

Bike. It's really not hard, and is good for your body and mind. I heard a story on NPR about a guy who biked from SF to Berkeley for work every day for the past 5 or so years, so don't complain if you live too far away. I go 5 miles uphill per day. (the ride home is fun)

Carpool. Easier, still expensive, not as good for you, you have to deal with your coworkers every morning for an extra chunk of time.

Move to Iraq. Oil is like, 5 cents per gallon or something. Probably cheaper than potable water. Which is bad.

Get a sleeping bag, stay at work monday-friday, that way you only have to drive to work once a week, and drive home once a week. Cuts gas costs by 80%. (for the family oriented, get a job at a public school. Live in a vacant classroom and you never have to drive again)

I don't care if Europe is paying more, it does not affect my mood over the prices one way or the other. We are being gouged, plain and simple. We all really need to start seriously considering alternative means of power.

It's 2.99 at the Chevron accross from where I live, and I was in SoCal last weekend and I was paying 3.05 for the cheap stuff.

This is the main reason fully electric cars were taken off of the market. The coal used to produce all the electricity to run them, caused way more pollution than the emissions of gasoline cars.

Hydrogen powered cars will be the future. How do I know this you ask? I am friends with Mr. Wizard and Bill Nye the Science Guy.
