Cut players the Kings should/could target.

A few interesting names have already been cut, and with more coming soon I figured I make a thread for it.

The Kings have a lot of depth, but I still think we have a definite need in the frontcourt. As we saw when Robinson was out against the Lakers during our last preseason game, pairing Travis Outlaw and Chuck Hayes is something that should never happen.

The first name that caught my eye is Daniel Orton. Is he any good? hard to say. He hasn't really had a chance, but he's big. He's has Kentucky connections with Cousins. I'd give him a look.

But the name I really like that looks like a recent casualty of the Harden deal is Jajuan Johnson. Reports are that the Rockets will cut him, and while he isn't 'big' he is certainly tall. He is a very good defensive player. He was the Big 10 defensive player of the year his senior season. He showed flashes while in Boston, and if he reaches some level of his potential, he could make a lot of sense next to Cousins. His per36 numbers are very respectable. He's still only 23. He'll land on some roster, and I'd really like it to be ours. Could potentially fill the 'weak-side shotblocker' role we are currently missing. He spent a lot of time with KG during his rookie season, and that can only help.

Speaking of the Rockets .. they still have about 20 players on their roster. With Cole Aldrich and Jon Brockman as other potential cuts, they are names we could look at.

Orton is very raw. More than Whiteside raw.
Johnson lacks size for PF the same way Thompson lacks size at C. Sure, he's long but don't expect him to contain guys with any resemblance of post game.
FA bigmen who can play are non-existant at this point. The only real stopgap solution is Kenyon Martin who wants to play in the NBA this season but he doesn't want to be an insurance guy, though nobody is offering him anything more.

Well if your looking for a young big, then I second Johnson as well. He definitely needs to put on some more muscle, but he was a very good defender at Purdue. I believe he averaged around 2.4 or so blocked shots his senior year. He is 6'10", so he's certainly big enough to play PF.

The other player I'd be interested in is Jerome Jordan, who was also released. He's a legit 7 footer, and again, a defensive player. He averaged 2.5 blocks a game in his four years at Tulsa. I saw him play in summer league and he played very well. He's a better offensive player, and better rebounder than Johnson, and he's a true center.

Another player that I've always liked, but we don't need, is Chris Douglas Roberts.

Douglas-Roberts was signed by Dallas, along with Melvin Ely

i dont really see Aldrich being cut, but if he is, i'd take a look at him. He was real solid at Kansas and definitely has NBA length. I don't know if he excels in any one category, but i think he's an all around solid player

I would like to take a look at Aldrich, CDR and maybe Johnson. Not Orton though. He made a HUGE mistake coming out early.

Looked like a complete scrub since entering the league, but was impressive early in preseason. It couldn't hurt. That said, I doubt we do it. doesn't have a good enough jumpshot you see.

Aldrich actually blocks shots pretty well per 36. He couldn't crack a tight big man rotation in OKC. We could do worse as a cheap insurance big man.

I think Brockman got released. Duplicative as hell with Hayes, but he's a good guy known to members of the team, and his grit and hustle can help set the right tone as a 5th/scrub big. If that eye is ok of course.

Does anyone know what's up with Mickael Pietrus? Is he injured right now or has he fallen off that far that nobody wants him?

5th/scrub big? You do realize that if Brockman joins our team he'll be playing a good 10 min every night right? Everyone's gotta play yo!

It'll probably be Outlaw's minutes anyway.

He'll definitely toughen up the practices, which I think will be good for the team. Cousins' issues never involve things getting too physical for him.
