Cousins passing vids

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Well last week I linked up a half hour highlight compilation that some guy had put together of all of Demarcus's best post moves from last season. And now today, I link up something even more insane: 50+ minutes of compiled highlights of Cousins' passing last year. Its possible he might have every single assist in there. The guy doing these needs to be both thanked for all the work, and found a gf pronto.

So once again, if you don't get to watch the Kings very often, well, here's why there is so much buzz about DeMarcus's passing abilities.

This season needs to start asap.

Also, Cisco is a really good shooter. Even if the numbers disagree ( his percentages are good, but I think he is even better than those ) ... he has such a good looking shot, and he can shoot it from anywhere, midrange, three, whatever .. as long as he spots up, and doesnt try and create his own shot off the dribble, he is money. I still love his potential as a role player, even though many here dont like him.

I think you summed it up nicely. Cisco is a role player, and he could be a valuable one off the bench. As a spot up shooter he's fine, and his defense against the right competition is good as well. I've never seen Cisco as a starter, and the fact that he started for us, says more about the team than it does Cisco.

I think the problem most fans have with Cisco is him as a starter. I don't think many would have a problem with him as a good role player off the bench. I also think that Cisco sometimes thinks he can do more than he is truly capable of. When he plays within himself, he is a solid player (just not as a starter).

thanks, I wish this guy would make a vid of just his defense.

That would be a pretty short video....I keed, I keed. I actually think Cuz has a higher defensive ceiling than most people give him credit for. Refs just werent giving him love last season, so I think by the second half, he was afraid to D up, since it just got him in foul trouble more often than not. If the zebras allow it, I can really see DMC growing on that end of the floor. Will never be a weakside shotblocker or anything...But we have Hassan for that :p

Nice vids. Love DMC's passing ability, as well as his willingness to make those passes. Flipside of this is that I think Westphal used him too much as a high post facilitator last season because of his passing prowess. I'm not averse to him playing that role occasionally, but I think he's better used in the paint as a scoring option.

Cant wait to see what kind of player DeMarcus is going to be in 5 years. Hopefully he'll still be a King. Dude's upside seems to be a player like Pau Gasol, except with balls.

Man just watching these highlights without the little side stuff that comes with DeMarcus is awesome. Can't wait to see this kid mature into a stud in the NBA.. in Sacramento hopefully.

And who said the Kings need a true PG? I think they need to get his man the ball more. All of that in those vids is something to build on.

Yeah, DeMarcus is an excellent high post player, but I'd like to see a little more balance between the high and low post next season. Too many times last season, Cousins got the ball in the high post, and no one moved without the ball. It left him either shooting a jumper, or forcing a move to the basket with little time left. Some of it was his fault, and some of it was his teammates fault. Just some bugs that need to be worked out.

I believe it is called "coaching", or so I have heard.

Totally agree, and I think thats part of what hurt his FG%. Misused by Westphal, but then so were most of the players on the roster last season.

I dont know whether or not i like or dislike Westphal. True, our team doesnt really have a system to run through. But then if we did, Tyreke probably wouldnt had gotten his 20-5-5. I get the feeling that Westphal, and our coaching staff, sees the high potential in our young stars Reke and Cousins, and prefers to let them develop on their own, and maybe into something really special. That may be at the expense of team play, as several of our past players like Spencer, Noce, and Beno had hinted at.

However, i have no doubts about Cousins being a team player, as evidenced by these vids. He really is a team player. Reke, i think is learning to play a team game. But Cousins, in my opinion, is really a special guy in that department.

Oh yeah, as an aside if i recall correctly, Cousins is the highest rebounding rookie in Kings franchise history. Thats gotta count for somethin.

Rebounding is the one ability that usually translates well from college to the NBA. Good rebounders tend to stay good rebounders, and seldom do you see a player that was a poor rebounder in college become a good rebounder in the NBA. Shotblocking is another skill that also translates, but not quite as well. Considering that Cousins was the best rebounding big per minute to come out of college in the last 15 years, its no surprise.

A guy to keep your eye on this next college season is Thomas Robinson of Kansas. He averaged 6 plus rebounds a game last year in only 14 minutes a game. Thats a rebound every two plus minutes. He would average out at around 17 rebounds for 36 minutes. With the Morris twins gone, he'll get the bulk of the minutes at PF this coming season. He could be a special player.
