Cousins and the 3 pointer

skte1ement

Prospect
I was at the game tonite and noticed something interesting, I want to hear other peoples opinions.

DeMarcus launched a 3 pointer sometime early in the 3rd quarter and Westphal immeaditley pulled him. They had a long conversation together and he was not subbed back into the game until late in the 4th quarter. I assumed that this might be for his I'll advised shot selection.

After reentering the game he immediately jacked up a 3 pointer. I hope I am reading to much into this but could it be a personal message to Westphal?

I hope not because Boogie looks very promising. If we could only get him to move his feet on defense!

To me it looked like after Cousins hit the first one he started to get a little trigger happy.

Practically everyone else on the Kings was jacking deep shots and assorted 3s. Unfortunately, everyone was missing nearly all of them - especially late. Of note was Lakers making there's from Kobe to Fisher to Odom, etc. The old saying that when legs get tired in 4th quarter the jumpers start to brick was so very true tonight for the Kings - but not LA.

I wouldn't read too much into it. One of his three-point attempts in the fourth quarter was when there was no time on the shot clock and he had to take it, and the other one was when time was running out and we were down by about 10. He probably thought it would be better to just take the open 3 than waste more time on the clock trying to get a better shot at that point.

This was my impresion. He took one on the broken play wiht reke, hit it, and got stupid. So he jacked up a second one. That was just a bad shot. The final two were in semi-desperation time, yes, but he stil should have been tryign to score inside, not jacking them up. I don't think it was a message to Westphal. Just a kid's brainfart and forgetting the gameplan.

He knew that the only way we had a chance against the Lakers was with Spencer Hawes, and so he tried to bring him here in spirit.

Don't read too much into what you saw. Cousins and Tyreke both lost minutes, because of foul trouble. I do agree that it looked like Cousins got a little too trigger-happy after making that 3 pointer, though.

I think Cousins knows where his bread and butter are. The first three he took happened after almost killing Tyreke while going after a long rebound. He found himself wide open and no defender withing 10 feet of him. He shot it and made it. I think the second one was a ill advised heat check to see if the first one was skill or just last minute luck. One of the last two attempts was as the shot clock was running down and the last one was nothing more than a what the hell, why not, we've lost anyway.

Point is, unless this suddenly becomes a desease, I wouldn't get too concerned about it.

Did you see after Cousins run into Tyreke that after running down the floor Tyreke checked his breast bone to see if he had a dent? :D He's going to need some medieval armor to protect himself. Both Cousins and Casspi really have hit my funny bones a few times this year. They don't exactly hold back on emoting, if you know what I mean....:) This is a very fun team to watch.

The thing I've enjoyed the most is watching Cousins after a ticky tacky foul as he walks to the bench with steam coming out of his ears, but saying nothing to the officials. The contrast between what going on in his head and the actions of his body are priceless.

I hope I don't have to see 4 three pointers taken by him anymore this season or in the near future. This should be the last of it, I don't mind one in every 5-10 games if it's a good look or something, other than that...let's not make it a bad habit Cuz.

Well, Paul certainly isn't consistent if he lets Head launch airballs all night long. This guy is no Eddie House, and his bad shot selection was one of the frustrating realities Houston fans faced with him. Good defender, athletic, but poor shot selection.
