Could Jay Williams be trying out for the Kings?

Another SacTown Gamble?



Jay Williams is 90% and apparently trying out with NBA teams this week. Petrie (or the Maloofs) gambled on Ron Artest last week. Even with Artest, the Kings still have a shallow bench and no real inside defensive presence. Why not gamble again?

Sign Jay Williams as a Sixth Man.

Imagine ending games with Bibby, Williams, Bonzi, Artest and Miller/Thomas against certain teams.

Williams, if he is 90% (heard he is a little rusty, but one report said the only visible difference is a calf sleeve and ankle brace), is a heck of a bargain and an upgrade from Jason Hart.

Williams does not solve the interior defensive presence, but he would kick start the bench. Nobody listened when I suggested the Kings sign Juan Dixon as Bobby Jackson's replacement, and he has proven to be a steal fo the Blazers. Williams has a big upside and is therefore a small gamble (note to Toronto, I heard you need a GM. Let's talk.).

There are a lot of teams out there who need backup point guards even more than the Kings. I'm guessing there's a pretty good reason Jay Williams hasn't been signed.

Jay Williams is from Duke, Duke seems to have a really bad curse in the NBA, there are a few stand outs but just remember Bobby Hurley.

Oh, we could take a look I suppose. But this is hardly, as this guy implies, some sort of bench saving move at this point. He was sucking it up even before he got injured. Now...who knows? Is he even NBA caliber? If he is, I sincerely doubt he's going to jump up and be our 6th man. Given Hart's play, we could/should consider anybody, and if he comes, well let's see what he'd got. But not holding my breath.

But, right now, I don't want to do anything to mess with the chemistry this group is developing. Let Hart and Price have garbage minutes and let Garcia and Artest switch off at the point long enough to get Bibby a few minutes...

You pretty much said everything I did Garcia can back up Bibby for the few mins. that he sits quite well, and being 6'7, creates some wicked mismatches on both ends of the floor. I think what we need, still, is a banger(since Rick doesnt like playing Skinner in this role, obviously)...I would love to get a guy like Gadzuric.

Talent is talent. IF this guy was what he was supposed to be at one point, you take him in an absolute heartbeat and do not look back. We would be fools not to. Especially for another young player that could be here long term. devalued talent is always a way to go -- heck, its how we got Artest.

People are getting way too terrified of breaking up 5 game old chemistry that isn't going to be enough to put us over the top anyway, and will have to be broken up sooner or later.

The problem isn't the concept of picking up a young stud on the cheap to play backup PG for us. Would love to do that, soone ror later. Its in the fact that Jay Williams may well never have been a young stud, and after the injury certainly hasn't impressed anyone else aroudn the league as being one.

Actually, I've been pleased to see Garcia spelling Bibby at PG and think it's great that he can play the 1-3 spots. A big PG is always desireable.

I was still in grade school back then, but I remember Hurley wasnt very good at all. Couldnt shoot worth a lick. Couldnt pass. Really couldnt do much of anything. I remember him being fairly popular though. A lot of kids at my school had Hurley jerseys.

Not interested in Jay. One of his largest complaints with the Bulls was how his game didn't incorporate into their triangle offense at the time. The triangle is just an overly mathematical motion offense. That wouldn't work here and that's assuming that he's back to his rookie year capabilities which I'm sure he's not. You can't come back from an injury that bad the same.

i'm interested in jay if and only if we could get him on the cheap. as in, the ballpark of hart's salary. he was a lotto pick before his injury. i don't how good he would have/could have been, but i think it could be a possible steal. and, considering how poorly hart's been playing the entire season, it could be a worthwhile gamble. he's still young.

regardless, i'm much more interested in bigs, and i'm hoping kings management is, too. that's where we are weakest. garcia is proving very capable of acting as a combo 1-3. i can live with him bringing the ball up the court. not to mention ronnie price's athleticism and potential to grow.

Hurley was a very streaky shooter, to say the least. He gained most of his reputation in high school. He was VERY quick, had some damn decent lateral movement before his accident, he was an above average passer. I think that if he hadnt been in his accident, he would probably have been about on the par with the stats that Jason Williams had here in Sac. He was way more under control on the court than J-Will, though.

We can't really do worse than Hart so why not give it a shot if he comes at a reasonable price.

He has talent so you take a punt on that. If the price is right then we don't lose a hell of a lot if it doesn't work out. If he comes good we come away as winner.
