WOW. Thank goodness for two playoff rivals bidding against each other. This could get interesting.

Hopefully. I guess if those offers really are on the table, Ron should be gone pretty soon. Although, it's impossible to tell whether Geoff will see it as a good deal. I hope he sees the opportunity to get another youngster or two (if we get Kleiza and a pick). I'm praying Ron is traded soon, not because I don't like him or because he's not one hell of a player, but because he really doesn't do much for what we need to do right now (rebuild).

Fingers crossed some solid info. will come out soon. VF, early days I know, but have you heard anything on your front? I would suspect that at this stage there's not much to tell.

Oh, that's a question I'd like answered. Could you tell me how long before the deadline is up? I know it's Thursday, but I live in Europe so completely different time zone. Could you tell me, in hours, how long is left before deadline is up? Eg. is it 24 hours, 20 hours? Thanks.

frankly I want us to jump on it earlier than that. If the deals are really coming together I'd take one or ther other before anybody thinks better of it. Especially where you have two teams bidding against each other, and each one basically holding up the value of the other's bid. If either one drops out, then the remaining one feels like it can drop back too. Let's just take something decent and run. If we get a pick out of it, it would actually be four picks for us in the upcoming draft, which is approaching the level where you can begin to control things a bit, or package picks to move up.

Several things bother me about a trade with Denver for Artest:

- Denver has 2 ball hogs now and a down low defender in Camby. RonRon wants the ball and is a down low guy. Is that "a bridge too far?"

- Last night in Portland, RonRon shows what he can really do against some teams: take over a game and still keep others involved. The Blazers could do nothing to stop him. If Coach Reggie can control RonRon and he can do that 3 out of every 4 games, then doing nothing is the best choice for now for the Kings. But if Kings do nothing and RonRon opts out, Kings lose.

- If we'd get Kleisa in a trade, he now comes off the bench and would for the Kings as it seems Salmons would start in the SF slot. But Kleisa is a 250 lb SF who appears to be more a PF. But isn't that what Shelden Williams should do? Is that a good or bad problem? Good in that Kings clear cap space and get a first rounder.

- Coach Karl is against getting RonRon but management is for it. Not good, for them or Kings.

Bottom line, RonRon has put himself in a position of having to be traded because he said he will opt out of his contract this summer, and Kings don't want a sign and trade as then they don't get cap space.

I love artest and think that his addition during our playoff run with Bonzi and the gang was an awesome/ strange time for the Kings. In an alternate universe where we had kept Bonzi and Adelman we'd be a crazy team right now.

BUT, if we can trade Artest for picks and expirings (let alone young talent), we are setting ourselves up for another late 90's run. Once we can lose SAR and kenny, We'd really have no where to go but up.

Agreed - don't forget that Mike Miller and others are still floating out there. At some point a team will say "enough waiting" on Artest and go with a trade somewhere else....

Strike while the iron is hot and a good deal is still on the table.

Heck no, I say go to the brink! I have some experience in negotiations, and you go all the way. Neither team is going to know that the other team dropped out, and even if either the Spurs or the Nuggets DO drop out they have no incentive to tell the other team because the losing bidder is going to want the winner to pay through the nose to get Artest.

Petrie should take this as far as he can. No guts no glory. We've all been saying Petrie needs to have more guts, well, he's showing them right now.

Several league sources reiterated that the Nuggets had offered the expiring contract of forward Eduardo Najera and a first-round draft pick for Ron Artest. The holdup, though, remained third-year small forward Linas Kleiza, a player who could certainly help the Kings in the present tense and without whom Petrie is not expected to do the deal. -- Sac Bee


i dont know if anyone posted that but apparently we can get a pick for ron if we pulled the trigger right now...

why not do this? ron will walk after this year.. we'll be getting a free first round pick.. the decision seems quite obvious...

I like negotiators like yourself -- when two of you get together its why lawyers like myself have jobs getting to clean up all the messes from the deals that breakdown.

I find that brinksmanship is like a game of chicken -- having guts is only a good thing if your opponent does not. If you both have guts, you're both going to end up sucking strained carrots through a staw for the rest of your lives.

I figure there is one more gambit left to be played now -- you pick one side, and give them the "look, I'd really rather deal with you anyway, tell you what if you just throw in xxxx, I'm willing to make the deal right now and not even go back to the other side." After that, you've probably already driven them as far as they are going to go, and wiht other options out there and available to them, you can't afford to let somebody sneak in and steal your buyer(s) by underselling you.

i responded to a quote about only expirings, and no mention of the actual DEAL. of course, if we are speaking in terms of a deal, then yes, you get a pick out of what would be nothing in return anyways.

ron will not stay. he commands more than 8 million a year taking into account his reputation.

I've yet to see a solid source that says they are actually close to a deal (I have read Amicks updates). It seems to be just speculation at this point, although talks probably have/are taken place. Unless a concrete story breaks before the game, I think Ron will suit up. If not, we know there's something in the works.
