I just went to Kings.com roster to see who the training camp invities and to see
who might be on the bubble for camp

Roster for players that have guarenteed contracts

C Sammy,DMC,Whiteside
F Landry,JT
SF Donte, Omri
SG Garcia,Wright
PG Reke,Beno, Pooh

That is 12 assuming Antoine Wright and Pooh is under guarenteed Contracts
(I am not sure that is the case)

On the bubble

Darnell Jackson - I dont think his contract is guarenteed? I would be suprised if he was kept on the final roster, I guess he would need big showing at Training camp
Donald Sloan - I dont think contract is guarenteed, after poor sunner league and signing
of Pooh hard to beleive we keep 4 point guards

Luthor Head, JR Giddins, Joe Crawford - I think these 3 are in a real contest
for a backup guard slot

Conner Atchley - I couldnt find much info on him 6'10" F-C, 225 lb Rookie From Texas?
Anybody think this guy could have a chance with our loaded front court? I cant imagine any reason for this guy making the team?

My guess One of the three SG makes the team

Anyone think Kings would keep a 14th player? if so which one? Im not sure if any of the above after the 13th SG pick would be worth the bucks to keep them for injury purposes?

I'm going to move this on over to the main forum since these guys are actually all already on our roster. Well, our training camp roster at least.

Atchley's chances of making the final roster are slim and none. I don't think you can call him a rookie anymore in the strict sense of the word, since he's been out of college for a couple of years graduating at the end of the 2008/09 season. He's not a bad shooter from inside the arc, but thats about it. Pooh and Wright are on guaranteed contracts, so they're probably a lock to make the team. Sloan blew any chance he had to make the team in summer league. He bordered on unimpressive to terrible. I suspect the Kings will only keep 14 players, and if I were to guess, it will come down to Jackson, Head, and Crawford fighting it out for the final two spots.

Its easy to discount Jackson because the Kings seem loaded in the frontcourt, but good bigs are hard to find, and if they think he has value, they just might keep him for his possible trade value, or insurance for the future. Remember, there's always the possibility that the Kings let Dalembert and Landry walk at seasons end, which would leave them with Cousins, Thompson, Jackson and Whiteside. Not likely, but its possible if they decide to go for capspace and be players in the freeagent market.

I think off all camp invited head has the best chance to stick.

First off, Kings fans have been praying for a Pooh-Head front court for as long as I can remember. On the serious side, he's a pretty good shooter on a team that could use some shooters. I would have rather signed him guarenteed than Wright. I suppose Crawford fits this mold aswell, I would just prefer Head.

There is a small spot in my heart for Giddens, as a former Celtic draft pick. He's a very good defender and athlete but cant do much else.

I guess I agree with you, If additional SG is the 13th player, with 5 Bigs, 5 Swing and 3 PGs then if you sign a 14th player one more big for insurance and for next year makes sense. But with a 12 man active roster Jackson would prob be inactive for most of the year and either 13th player SG or Pooh depending on the health of back court would be inactive also

Just over a week now till the start of training camp and not a bit too soon. There are 12 guaranteed contracts as indicated apreviously. I wondered how many more bodies are coming to camp. While wondering this momentous issue, Marty Mac in his blog on Sept 15, gave me exactly what I needed. Following is an excerpt from his article about camp and who will/might be there followed by a link to the blog:

So far, the Kings expect the usual suspects - Tyreke Evans, Beno Udrih, Francisco Garcia, Samuel Dalembert, DeMarcus Cousins, Omri Casspi, Hasaan Whiteside, Jason Thompson, Carl Landry, Donte Greene, Pooh Jeter and Antoine Wright.

Then there are the hopefuls - Darnell Jackson, Donald Sloan, Luther Head, Joe Crawford, J.R. Giddens and Connor Atchley.

Any of the hopefuls could be swayed by guaranteed loot elsewhere. However, Head, Crawford and Giddens likely will see openings with the Kings for anyone who consistently can make perimeter shots.
