College Basketball, Bajaden:

Kemba Walker has shocked me this year. Absoultely shocked me.

This is his third season at UCONN ( The team I follow the most considering its the best College Bball team in my area ). He never seemed like more than a role player to me. He is in a massive hot streak right now .. I dont know how he can continue to score at this rate, but if he can .. look out.

I still dont love him as an NBA player though. Not to say he cant be a good pro, but his game seems like the textbook college star game.

I will admit that I've never been a big Kemba Walker fan. But how can anyone ignore what he's doing. And he's making it look easy. I'm still going to take a wait and see attitude with him, but if he continues on this streak, he's certainly going to be drafted high. I've always seen him as a second round pick, and to be honest, a roll player. Pretty impressive stuff so far.

Florida St. vrs Ohio St.:

What happens when you throw two defensive minded teams up against one another. Usually the one with the better offense wins. And that was the case last night when Ohio St. came out on top 58 to 44.

In its own way it was a fun game to watch. Chris Singleton is the main man for Florida St., and he struggled to score, spending most of the game being guarded by Jared Sullinger. However, Singleton made life just as miserable for Sullinger, and a lot of other players on Ohio St.. Singleton is just a terrific defender. He has quick feet and quick hands. He's a very good athlete whose transition game should watched by anyone that wants to know how to play defense.

Offensively he needs work. His game is almost entirely within 10 feet of the basket. Not that there's anything wrong with that. He just needs to have more of a post game and improve his jumpshot. But theres potential there. He had 8 pts with 7 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 blocked shots. For the year he's averaging 14.7 PPG, 9.4 RPG, 2.9 BPG, and here's the amazing one, 3.4 steals per game. For a PF thats exceptional.

Xavior Gibson, the big 6'11" center did not have a good night offensively. He just couldn't get anything going inside at all. But Gibson is a very good defender as well. He ended up with only 2 pts, 4 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots. He's a very good athlete. In one sequence he came over to the right post and cleanly blocked a shot. The ball ended up gong to another Ohio St. player out on the right wing. Gibson had fallen to the floor after blocking the shot. The player on the wing seeing an opportunity with Gibson sitting on the floor, headed for the basket and went up for the dunk. Gibson lept to his feet and blocked the shot again. All this happened in about 3 or 4 seconds. It was an impressive display.

Derwin Kitchen was the only player that had any success on offense scoring 10 pts on 5 of 9 shooting.

Jared Sullinger had a rough night going up against Singleton. But he was still impressive. At 6'9" and listed at 280 pounds (doesn't look that heavy) he moves very well and has fairly quick feet. He has a pretty good post game, and has a nice jump hook that he showed off using both his right and left hand. He scored 11 hard earned points on 3 of 9 shooting. He also had his shot blocked a couple of times. He's a good rebounder and uses his big body to block out extremely well. Not a great game, but all in all, considering Florida St.'s defense, he played well.

Jon Diebler added 12 pt's on 3 of 12 shooting, with 4 steals.
William Buford had 9 pts on 4 of 12 shooting, with 5 rebounds.
And David Lighty had 10 pt's on 4 of 14 shooting, with 7 rebounds, 1 steal, and 2 blocked shots.

You can see by looking at their shots made per attempts, no one shot the ball well and believe me, Florida St. was the reason for that. If Florida St. can find a way to add some offense they can be a dangerous team down the road.

San Diego State (SDSU) vs. Wichita State, Sat 12/4
Decided to go see a really good college team play a very good team not expecting much for the Kings-Mavs game at the same time. SDSU has Steve Fisher as head coach. Remember him? Kings brought him in the first year they had CWebb since Fisher was CWebbs coach at Michigan for the infamous title game when CWebb called the time out when Michigan had none, and lost the game. Anyway, I digress. Fisher has brought SDSU up from 11-18 in 04/05 to 20-13 two years ago, 25-9 last year and this year the entire starting lineup from last year returned and they are now 8-0 and ranked for the first time in their history at #17.

Their star is Lawhi Leonard, a 6-7 soph who plays college Fwd and just had his 23rd double-double tonight, in just 2 years. He is an awesome player at both ends, super quick, hustles his butt off, gets bunch of steals and skys for rebounds amongst "bigs" up to 7 ft. Finished with 16 pts, 12 rebs, 5 ast, 4 steals and 1 blk. Anyway, vs Wichita State, the two teams played very even the entire first half and SDSU up by one at half. Second half started out even, again two very good teams, then suddenly about 5 minutes in SDSU was up by 7, then 10 then 11. Then what seemed like 30 seconds later they were up by 17!! Game over as WS could not get any closer than 7-9 the rest of the way. Even Mrs. CruzDude loved the game and the excitement of a sold out college arena with the home team a real power. Fun Fun Fun, until daddy took her T-bird away!!!!!

Next up for the SDSU Aztecs: @ Cal 12/8 then 3 more home games vs. Univ San Diego, Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara They are in the Mountain West Conf with the likes of Utah, TCU, UNLV, New Mexico, BYU, etc. We're going to some, just in case.

Yeah, as I already told you privitely, I like leonard, but I'm not sure just what his positon will be in the NBA. He basicly has a PF's game in a SF's body. A well built body, but none the less, I'm not sure he can play PF in the NBA. Never say never though. Barkley was only 6'5", and Bernard King was only 6'7" and he was one of the best post players I've ever seen. So you never know. He's definitely talented.
