Chuck Hayes contract has been voided

Very sad, wasn't expecting it to come to this at all. Really hope Chuck is OK, he's a great guy and doesn't deserve this. Hope he gets back playing and gets a good contract from some other team.

Tough break for Chuck. I hope he bounces back. As far as the Kings I would think the signing of Outlaw means we dont expect to get AK47, which is ok anyways as I think Dalambert is more of what we need anyway. That would mean more time for Cousins at PF. Whatever happens we do need another big though. Very little left out there. Anyone that we may have wanted signed after we got Hayes. One interesting person out there is Kris Humphries. I dont understand why nobody has signed this guy. He averaged a double double last year in 28 min a game and shot 52% from the field, only 26 years old. What am I missing?

A LITTLE heart murmer? This is why GMs aren't doctors.

Please don't take that statement out of context - it was MINE, not any GM's. The point I was trying to make, however poorly you might think I did it, is that there are any number of reasons for a failed physical. Tyson Chandler famously failed a physical trading him to OKC because of a toe. I think it was broken, it might not have even been that bad. As I recall, he continued to play in New Orleans after having failed the trade physical. The widespread belief was that after agreeing to the trade, the Thunder freaked out about the size of the contract, wanted to renege, and found a way to do it. In another example, Shareef Abdur-Rahim had a free agent contract nixed due to potential knee issues on his physical, and we turned around and signed him to the MLE - maybe a bad idea in retrospect, but he passed OUR physical.

And I'm saying that this doesn't look like a case of "buyer's remorse", where Chuck is going to turn around and pass another team's physical. Rather, it looks like something is actually wrong.

By the way, I know you're a physician, so I'm surprised you didn't simply translate my "little murmur" into "functional murmur" or "innocent murmur", a benign condition that does not require a reduction in physical exertion.

I don't have a clue what you are getting at. I was already loaded with the knowledge of an abnormal stress echocardiogram and there could be nothing "innocent" about it.

I've been on the humphries train for a while. The guy is chuck Hayes + 3 inches. He's a better shotblocker than on the ball defender though.

sigh. From the AP Article on ESPN.com:

Hayes' release leaves a void in Sacramento's starting lineup and opens the possibility of a return by Samuel Dalembert, a free agent center who played with the Kings last season. Dalembert averaged 5.1 points and 4.9 rebounds in 17 minutes per game last season.

5.1pts 4.9rebs in 17 min? Nice journalistic work and fact checking here guys.

Just your usual intellectually lazy journalist. So bad its actually funny... As an aside, I think is a little ironic that this Hayes story comes out at the same time as the report that Kirilenko is leaving Russia and returning to the states. Hey, if we can't sign Dalembert, then sign Kirilenko and plug him in at PF. He played that position plenty while at Utah. He's a great help shotblocker, and quick enough to guard just about anyone on the court.

I also want to say how sorry I'am for Chuck Hayes. I can only hope that whatevers wrong is correctable. If not, I hope he can lead a long and happy life.

AK47 at PF? So...if we end up signing Dalembert, then bring him off the bench? You're starting Cuz/AK on the frontline?

I don't have a clue what you are getting at. I was already loaded with the knowledge of an abnormal stress echocardiogram and there could be nothing "innocent" about it.

My original comment was intended to be taken as a hypothetical, no-preknowledge-of-abnormal-stress-echocardiogram situation, so that may be the problem.

I was only trying to point out that Petrie's statement made it sound like a real problem, as opposed to a "buyer's remorse" non-problem. I was confused myself at how you seemed to turn my hypothetical comment into an indictment of GMs as non-medical personnel.

No, what I was saying, is that if we can't sign Dalembert, who would be my first choice, then sign Kirilenko and put him at PF. Its not perfect, but it could work for one year until we find a better fix. Kirilenko did play a lot of PF at Utah. Not sure how much he liked it though.

The Rockets on Monday made inquiries about the prognosis of former Rockets forward Chuck Hayes to determine if his medical condition might allow him to be a free-agent option again, a person with knowledge of the talks said.
The Kings voided Hayes' $21.3 million, four-year contract on Monday, days after Hayes failed a team physical. The team had announced last week that an abnormality was found during a heart examination. No additional information was made available at Hayes' request.

Wow what was this all about? First they tie up our Boy Sammy in negotiations, then hover over our boy Chuck like vultures? Couldnt they wait til Chuck feels he is ready to play and see if he contacts them? What the hell!!

Yeah, that's definitely odd. As if they suspect us of voiding him a a ploy?

Did Houston think we used it as excuse to void contract to make a big offer for Sammy?

If they are right - Shame on Kings Front Office
If they are wrong - Shame on Houston

Either way someone is gonna look like real Shmucks!!

That or it tells you how much they value Sam Dalembert as a candidate for them! Time to lowball the hell out of Sam right about now. :p

I would guess they called to find out what was wrong.. he is loved by the Houston F.O., both GM and Owner, so I would imagine they were going straight to the source to find out what his condition is. :) And whoever the "person with knowledge" is made a supposition that it was about his ability to play

Ok after seeing Chuck's Tweet (See injury thread)

The verdict's in as far as I'm concerned

Houston FO - You are a bunch of Shmucks

My thoughts and prayers go out to Chuck Hayes. Hopefully, the good luck here is that the problem has been discovered and, hopefully, is treatable. I, too, wish him a long and good life.

Bad for Hayes and I hope he gets well.

When you think there are far more unfortunate people than him, people having the same condition and having no money in their pocket, somehow you kind of feel Hayes is still lucky. He earned his millions already and I am pretty sure he's covered with the best health insurance. He will be fine. No need to be overly acting sorry for him.

Good for the Kings!

We escaped another Shareef Abdul Rahim!

I hope Travis' contract will be next, so we can get both Dallllllllly and AK4777777777777!!!!!!:D

Go Petrie !!!!!

I was so looking forward to seeing him in a Kings uni, he would be fantastic with us and suit us on so many levels, being a guy we could go forward with in our eventuall contending team too in a few years.

Just lost for words frankly. I still somehow secretly hope this will be solved and he'll be able to put a Kings jersy on - although I guess this is a major longshot, a guy can hope right?

Get well soon Chuck, hope to see you on the Basketball court again - hopefully in a Kings uni like it was ment to be!
