CBSSports.com's Final Regular Season Grades for the Western Conference...

I hate when those so-called "analysts" grade based solely on wins and losses. This Kings season was soooooo much more than just wins and losses. It was about creating identity. It was about creating a new culture. I think we did all of these things. The new ownership group has come in and done some amazing things with this franchise. We may have not won more games than we did last season, but at least this time around we can all say that our future looks great! We are confident that the team is heading in the right direction, and we are even more confident that our current FO will get us to to where we want to end up, and that is on top of the NBA World.

Well, other than the grade itself, it does seem rather positive:

They should feel better about this season than they will. They added Rudy Gay and he played great, efficient basketball for the first time in years. DeMarcus Cousins made significant strides on both ends and Derrick Wiliams became a good role player. They just don't know how to win games, and figuring out how to teach that is proving way harder than expected.

At least he noticed DMC's improvements and Gay's increased efficiency, although that may be TOO positive about Williams.

I have only a minimum of faith in the development of Williams. I don't see him as a positive although I have not given up.

True. That's kinda my point, though.....Why say all these positive things about the team and then go ahead and give them a low grade solely based on wins and losses? Look at the whole picture. An NBA season doesn't only have to be about wins and losses. We can be graded on how our young guys have developed. How the new ownership has come in and installed a new culture, a new way of life, etc.....

meh. i trust kf.com's evaluative opinion of the kings' season as a whole much more than the national media. it's nice when the kings get a bit of credit, but as a small market team that's been mired in its losing seasons for years, i hardly expect national outlets to be either friendly or fair to the kings right now, particularly during this period of transition. the media primarily pays attention to wins and losses, after all; it's not in their purview to consider the development of young players on a largely irrelevant team, not when there are much more interesting storylines across the nba. next season is when i'll be interested to see if the narrative changes. i won't get my hopes up for a '13-'14 phoenix suns' style "cinderella story," but it would be nice if the kings' played well enough to receive some positive notice from the national media...

Oh, I definitely agree. But it is nice to see whether the team, or at least individual players, do get the appropriate national recognition. After all, I am a little worried that being able to get his proper credit is going to be a part of keeping DMC happy here, so the more we see the national narrative changing the better.

I was just about to post something similar. Why would anyone trust the opinion of others who don't eat/sleep/breath Kings basketball year round as many of us do?

The linked article was about as elementary of a summary as one could write.
