Bring Vlade back?

VladeRules

Prospect
Looking ahead, why not bring Vlade back, if only for his locker room presence and savvy? He could help get Peja back in the groove too. Who knows? If his back improves, he might even be able to play 10-15 minutes a game at a decent level. After his time in L.A. doing nothing, I bet he'd consider it.

Vlade is now older, in LESS shape than he was previously, has not stepped on the court in a very long time, and did I mention OLDER?

The ship has sailed. The team is going in a new, younger direction. Vlade will not be coming back.

Assuming that You are not being sarcastic - No or even a "Hell No"

People have to start to realize that we can not bring the past back. We can not live in the past. There is no Vlade, DC or Webber any more. These group of players with some changes over the summer - has to figure it out. Phoenix did, Seattle did - we will too.

The only thing I could see us doing with Vlade is bringing him back as an assistant coach to hold Peja's hand. His playing days are pretty much over.

I'm not implying that his play will make a difference. I'm talking about his savvy rubbing off on the other guys. He could in effect be a player-asst coach with the emphasis on coaching. That's not living in the past...that's smart. There are a lot of young guys who could benefit from his knowledge of the game.

If you're not implying his play will make a difference, why are you saying he could play 10-15 minutes a game?

You think bringing him back would be smart. I think it would be a step backwards. Vlade may have had a lot of savvy but the things he DIDN'T have were a hunger to win and a killer's instinct. THAT'S what we need. The nice guy stuff was... well, nice...but as I said before, that ship has sailed.

Which is why it would make more sense to drop the "player" and just bring him back as an offensive assistant coach. He's said he's going to retire after this year anyway.

Actually, he hasn't said whether or not he's going to retire and I believe there's one more year on his contract.

I loved Vlade Divac. I think you guys know that. But I do not see him coming back here at any point in the near future. If he did, it would only be - as Brick pointed out - to hold Peja's hand and I find that totally and completely repugnant.

We have to let go of the past. Vlade was part of a really special time for Kings fans but that time is over. There are new faces on the team and there will undoubtedly be more new ones next year. We have to move on...and keep our memeories of Jon, Scot, Jason, Vlade, Doug, Chris, Hedo and the rest as just that - memories.

VF21, you're just flat-out wrong. Vlade manned up on Shaq when they played and in fact many were saying he played him better than anyone at the time. So much for lack of killer instinct. The ship never sails on a veteran player's ability to pass on valuable knowledge that he's gained. How is it that you think it's a bad idea to bring in the best passing center of his generation to teach the young guys? As for 10-15 minutes a game, why do you think I was implying that that will make a difference? How does anyone playing 10-15 minutes a game make a big difference? Maybe I should have said BIG difference. Sure he could play 10-15 minutes (if he's healthy) and make a contribution (vs a BIG difference).

Vlade would be an excellent addition to front office part of our team. If he chooses to retire at the end of the next season, i'm pretty sure that the kings would offer him a job. That could also be critical if vlade joins managment and can draw pedja back to re-sighing with the kings (assuming pedja stays in sacto till then ;))

I respect your enthusiasm for Vlade Divac. I really do. Killer instinct ISN'T about manning up on Shaquille O'Neal, which Vlade never really did THAT well anyway. What he did well against Shaq was flop, which nearly drove Shaq nuts.

I think it's a bad idea to bring him back at this point because he would be only a reminder of things past. Vlade's passing skills were exceptional; that doesn't mean he can teach them to others. Some things are learned; other things are just there and can be emphasized. Passing at the level Vlade did as a big man is a gift, not just something he learned.

As far as 10-15 minutes not making a difference, with all due respect, are you out of your mind?

My name is VF21. That stands for Vladefan21. I have followed Vlade's career since he first came to the NBA and played for the dreaded Lakers. I have admired him his entire career. So, I think I can make these statements from a viewpoint of someone who respects what he was as a player and a person.

The ship on having Vlade Divac back as part of the Kings AT THIS MOMENT in time has sailed. At some point in the future, who knows? But right now it would not make the team better IMHO.

Reggie Theus might actually be a good idea, considering he was point guard who could actually defend.

;)

As a player Vlade is done. He has one more year on his contract and may or may not retire and save LA some cash for next season. As Brick said bring him back as a coach? sure. As a player... won't happne nor should it.

:D

Hey, my memories are selective. I remember him defending someone once... I think.

I do remember he (EDIT: REGGIE) had nice legs.

;)

You should have used the "Quote" feature on that one, VF.

I'd forgotten that Reggie was mentioned, looked at the title of the thread and thought you were making a case for Vlade's gams.

Very confusing.

Hmmmm....

Vlade's legs?

OR

Erik "Pippi Longstockings" Daniels?

Maybe I'll make a poll for the most disturbing mental image...

But maybe not. If I did, I'm sure Bricklayer would post something like the flying platypus.

;)

A platypus gracefully flying through the air with Vlade's legs (four of them) dangling lifelessly in the wind and his carefully coiffed Pipi 'do flapping ever so gently atop his head.

Nice.

G3 - If I wake up screaming in terror tonight with that image in my head, I will blame you forever.

ROFLMAO!!!!!

You mean, I'd become the Chris Webber to your Ailene Voisin??

You could never do that.

Many have tried, few have succeeded. I'm just too darn loveable.

Webber would be on the top of the coming back list,

A.W. going back to Celtics has turned to be a good move.

I take offense at being used as a metaphorical Voisin.

Massive and incredible offense.

I may have to challenge you to a duel.
