Breaking: Reggie Theus Fired

Reggie Theus! Who is next to leave? Maloofs leave us alone!

Reggie would have been fine if the Maloofs would have kept their nose out of it. You can't coach the team and keep the Maloofs happy at the same time! Maybe they will take their team elsewhere? The Maloofs are still paying Eric Musselman...now another paycheck for Reggie to? Plus notice how those seats are filling up! Goodbye Maloofs!

Thanks for your positive contribution!

Nbrans, what do you think about Sam Mitchell? of Flip? these are the two i like.

I feel like the jury was still out on Sam Mitchell when he was fired, and I don't really have an opinion on him either way. It really seems like the Raptors should have been better than .500 last year and much better than they started the season. At the same time, Colangelo deserves a lot of that balme.

Flip is a really smart guy and an innovative coach, and yet he can't seem to get a handle on the social side of coaching and wore out his welcome in Detroit ridiculously fast. I can't really see him doing well with a rebuilding project, which depends so much more on instilling confidence and managing disgruntled vets than it does X's and O's.

I liked Reggie as a person. Thats why i feel bad. As a coach he really didn't show much. On the other hand he didn't really have a chance. Something needed to be done either way and we will see how this works out. For now, so long Reggie, We'll miss you.

Reggie Theus fired

BLOG UPDATE (10:40 a.m.): The news has been confirmed by the Kings media relations staff.
(10:10 a.m.)
A Kings head coaching position that has been a musical chairs post in recent years changed once again around 10 a.m. on Monday morning, when - according to two sources close to the team - Reggie Theus was fired along with assistant Chuck Person and assistant Kenny Natt was given the role of interim head coach.

Person gets fired too..

So Person, the defensive assistant, gets fired as well.

I thought Natt was the def assistant? My bad. At least that makes some sense.

With Kenny Natt at the helm for the rest of the season, foreseeably, this should be a long season punctuated with a coaching search and a lottery pick. I would think any vets who want a career in the future other than going through more rebuilding would want to be dealt ASAP... So, who gets shipped? Brad? Salmons? Moore?

I am late for a meeting, but I just had to say thanks to Reggie for trying while he was here. That being said, I am glad it happened. At least there is something going on in the front office to acknowledge the problems. I am hoping the new coach will have better results.

Did you see post #30? ;)

I want JVG!!

Firing Reggie now though was a mistake. Too much youth, not enough consistency around here for a coaching carousel.

For the love of god, can we just stop with this short-term fixes? Honestly, what is Kenny Natt going to do that Reggie Theus can't? Bottom line is we are still a rebuilding team who will get blown-out on any given night. Isn't it time to realize that changing the coach doesn't change anything if you still have a bad team?

Please, Rick Adelman, come back!

I may have to switch teams if they hired JVG. That is it the most B-O-R-I-N-G brand of basketball you could imagine. Just an eyesore, and we'd have to change the entire roster.

Exactly!!
This firing will do NOTHING for the team or this season. This team is just bad. And no coach out there will change that. The maloofs are trying to put lipstick on this pig and it aint going to work.

All of a sudden it's feeling like the early 90's around here.

I think the reason for letting him go has more to do with behind the scenes issues. Having Natt coach will keep some consistency with the players in terms of style, but we are not going to be a good team this year regardless of who is coaching. However, Theus has always struck me as very stubborn and has even called out the management to the press in the past (regarding having his types of players). My guess is that he was butting heads with management, wasn't playing the players he should have been, etc. As long as Natt spends more time developing the young players and doesn't stop the linning this move should work out just fine.

Of much bigger concern is what coach do we pick up in the offseason.

You know one good thing that will come from this firing (Reggie and Chuck) is now all of the assitant coaches should have a chair on the bench. We just had a ridiculous amount of coaches before.

Head Coach: Kenny Natt
Lead Assistant: Rex K.
Assistant: Randy Brown
Assistant: Jason Hamm
Assistant: Shariff

Hell, that's still too many. I can't believe we had SIX assistants before. That is crazy.

If the Maloofs kept their noses out of hiring decisions, Reggie wouldn't have been the coach in the first place.

nbrans, I'm Curious, Why don't you like Jordan?

One of the worst defensive coaches in the league, has never shown he can win more than 45 games or so. Has also had pretty consistent locker room problems that he never solved, and may actually have exasperated with stupid rotations. Geoff would proabbly love to bring him in so he could get his precious Princeton back. But its not about the Princeton Geoff, its about winning big. Jordan has never shown that. He's a 230-290 (.442) lifetime coach, and 8-18 lifetime in the playoffs. And when you have been coaching for as long as he has, those numbers begin to be about accurate.

Who honestly would want to coach here with the Maloofs making "Return to the Kingdom"???

No real coach wants to be on Real World Sacramento
