Brandan Wright

i figured if we're talking about greg oden (an injury prone player not worth the contract necessary to attain him) then i might suggest a more small scale experiment. What's the consensus on this guy these days? i remember he had all kinds of hype coming into the draft a few years back and it looks like he could be had for near nothing. what do you guys think?

Key words being small scale experiment. With that said, I watched him quite a bit down here in Oakland - well, the rare occasions he was healthy - but he definitely has promise as a long, energenic player off the bench. I could see him being a player in three years where he is a solid NBA player.

I appreciate your being optimistic about Wright, but he's already been in the league for 3 years, and your saying that in 3 more he might be a solid player. Considering that he's done nothing in the past three years to make me believe another 3 years will help, I'll pass thank you.

Depends on the price before I'd pass on him. Considering his health was the main factor in his being a, uh, non-factor - if he can mature physically and avoid injuries (IF) he will be a solid NBA player imo.

OK, I'll try and keep it short. I wasn't very high on Wright coming out of college. He was more a product of his team, then his own merits. He had a very low skill level and got by almost strictly on his athleticism in college. As far as I can tell, his skill level hasn't improved at all. Injuries or not, I need to see some sort of improvement, and I haven't. He's still the same player he was 3 years ago. Now some of that may be injuries, and some may be the system he played in. But personally I'd be afraid to take a chance on him for anything but the mininum salary. I'll tell you the name of another player that fits the exact same description, that I wasn't high on. Earl Clark! It wouldn't surprise me if he's out of the NBA in a year or two.

I really liked Earl Clark too. He's definitely a prime example of not having a NBA level skill, just a lot of mediocre to average abilities. And yes, Wright certainly wouldn't be worth anything more than a contract that Sean Mays got a few years ago. Pretty crazy the Warriors traded JRich for his draft rights, and right after their We Believe playoff run. They must've thought of him as a future star.

I've seen him in a few games and I think he's shown some decent skill. He's always had a pretty good PER (between 15-19) and good per minute numbers. He's been a victim of injuries and then got buried in the Warriors rotation. I wouldn't want to throw a big contract at him. But considering he is only 23 and seems to have been a good citizen and non-complainer in both Golden State and NJ, I wouldn't mind getting him cheap. It would be pretty low risk and high reward. He kind of reminds me of a cheaper version of Tyrus Thomas.

Like bajaden said, Wright just appeared to be a product of the North Carolina system, which must've masked his weaknesses since he appeared to rely on his athleticism. I don't agree with the trade, but I understand it. The Warriors gambled, and lost. Admittedly I was actually quite high on Wright coming out of college and was shocked that he almost fell all the way to our pick at #10, since he was projected to go in the 3-5 range after Oden and Durant.
