Brad Miller

Rain man

Starter
If we are going to rip the guy when he plays like a little Nellie, we need to praise him when he steps it up. TERRIFFIC 3 game home stand for Brad. He averaged 12 boards and 2 blocks per game in the homestand, and was great tonight. He was battling for boards, blocked some shots, and I saw him fly into the stands twice and hit the ground numerous other times.

The man to man defense can still use improvement and I would love to see him shoot better, but I think we all need to recognize the effort he has brought the last three games (and hope he keeps bringing it!)

yeah Brad has put forth more effort and heart in these first 6 games than he did all last season. Welcome back to Brad.

I suspect that the reason Brad's shot has been short is because he is playing harder on the defensive side of the ball. You expend more energy playing defense making it harder to get lift on your jump shot. Love the 16 boards though.

Yep. Miller has really brought forth the effort. He not only flew into the stands, he actually landed in the lap of some guy who managed not to spill his beer. Pretty impressive all the way around.

Mad props to you, Brad Miller!!!

I think MIller wanted that beer as he joked around with the fan about it.

He's holding his own on hustle. But, why the heck can't Brad finish when under the hoop??? I think everyone in the league knows he is always looking for the call and just crunch him. PLEASE dude, at least try to make it when down there... you're usually less than a foot or two from the dang hoop... a little more fight and your there! I for one am bored with the flailing arms and look of disgust.

He's averaging like 1.8 blocks or something so far. I think he had a total of 1.8 blocks the entire year last year. It's nice to see him trying to swat the ball at the rim..

I honestly think at the end of the year he will have a block a game if not more average. (not more than 1.5 though :D)

yeah last year he had 39 blocks all year. He already has 10 this year. At this pace he might break last years total by early Jan.

I don't love Miller (he and Thomas are my least fav's) but even I must say he looks and plays much better, so far this year. If he keeps this up I may have to move him up in my book.

It's not that I disagree with you, 'cause I don't. But I thought this string was to give Brad some due praise for his recent effort - particularly over the past 3 games where he seems to have learned/relearned how to rebound. Watching Brad fight for rebounds and loose balls is nearly a cathartic experience!

what... I gave him some praise in my first sentence. :D

D13 - I have to disagree at least in part to the criticisms you leveled against Brad. He couldn't possibly have fought any more last night than he did. If he plays like that every night, I'll have no complaints.

D13, I understand your frustration that Brad doesn't have the upper body strength of a Jefferson but he doesn't. You can only play with the skills that you have. This guy wasn't even drafted and worked on his game to finally make it to the NBA. This last summer he did what I wish I could do and that is to lose 25 pounds. He did it to improve his game and it worked! So far anyway.

I'm impressed with what Brad has done and wish we had Jefferson. :) I wish no King had a weakness but then that's not possible is it?

Brad is what he is, and right now he's playing the best he's played in some time. The problem is that Brad needs some help and last night he got it from Beno, who by the way impressed the hell out of me. Brad has never been cute under the basket like Valde was or a Barkley who at 6'4" was unstopable under the basket. But right now I'll take the Brad we have over the Brad we had last year.
All you can ever expect from a player is that he bust his butt and do his best. Its unfair to expect him to become Shaq or Wallace.

Ditto that. He's hustling and getting boards - two things sorely lacking on this team last year.

I only saw the game against the Sonics (I live deep in Laker land) and Miller looked great.
But I checked the boxscore against the TWolves...

...MILLER!!!!

Brad is our one veteran big who hasn't stunk this season. Not everyone seemed to notice that, I saw a lot of "we need to play small ball because our only big is Watkins" sort of arguments, and I felt like that was unfair to Brad. His play hasn't been in the same category as SAR, who seems to be playing with some pain, or KT, who just looks like he is in pain. Brad has consistently contributed, and I'll be very happy to have him keep it up.

Stats per 48 minutes
Brad: 39% FG, 88% FT, 15 points, 11.6 reb, 2.8 assists, 2.4 blk, .3 stl, 2.4 TO, 4.9 PF
Mikki: 38% FG, 91% FT, 8.6 pts, 7.0 reb, 1.6 assists, .6 blk, .6 stl, 3.4 TO, 6.0 PF
Darryl: 36% FG, 40% FT, 8.6 points, 9.5 reb, 0 assists, .9 blk, .9 stl, 5.1 TO, 5.1 PF
Kenny: 50% FG, 0% FT, 8.8 points, 12.3 reb, 2 assists, 0 blk, 1.5 stl, 3 TO, 6.8 PF
Shareef: 27% FG, 100% FT, 10.9 points, 8.7 reb, 2.2 assists, 0 blk, 1.1 stl, 1.1 TO, 8.8 PF

Have to agree with your take about favs and I too am hoping Miller keeps it up - so somebody might take the bait and offer a trade! Kings need a big body with muscle and leaping ability. Brad was never one to spend much time in the weight room and his DNA won't allow jumping higher than a paper plate.

Actually, if we think about Bibby, Martin, Salmons, Artest and Miller on the court, then I think the current version of Brad Miller just might fit quite nicely. And we'd have Beno, Cisco, Douby and the rest coming in to spell the backcourt, with at least 18 fouls available from SAR, KT and Moore to spell Artest and Hawes and Watkins for some relief for Miller. It's not perfect, but I've seen a lot worse.

I agree VF it is going to be hard to take John Salmons out of that starting lineup. If it weren't for Kevin scoring among the best in the league we all would be gushing over John and his 20pts 4reb 4ast 2stls per game.

That lineup is potent offensively, but Miller would have to stay down low, rebound and defend. Otherwise, we'd get killed inside. On second thought, even with Miller concentrating on D and rebounding, we'd likely get killed by any decent team. ;)

And what's the problem? We aren't counting on winning a lot of games anyway, but at least that lineup would be fun to watch and exciting.

;)

way to go brad. nice 16 board game. he's averaging a little over 8 boards a game and 1.6 blocks per game. i would like to see him at 10 boards a game and 2 blocks per game

OK, where do I start. First of all lets deal with what is and not what was. Brad spent the entire summer in the weight room, so lets give him his due. Secondly, there's more to basketball than athleticism and jumping ability. For right now Brad is rebounding, and rebounding well. He's actually blocking shots. We wanted a big that could do that and it seems, at least for now we have one.

Brad also brings something to the plate that a J. Williams etc. can't bring. Basketball IQ. He sets terrific screens and is a great passer. On a team that is suffering for assists, he is a bright light that can help. For those that paid attention, he and Beno played the high post 1, 2, game beautifully. I expect that the more they play together, the total assists for the team will go up. With the Kings of old, whenever the assist total went over 20 a game there was ususlly a W at the end..

The three most consistant players on the floor so far have been Miller, Martin, and Salmons. Cisco continues to make one good play and negate it with another bad one. Douby shows growth, but as a 2 guard, a slasher and occasional spot up shooter. This is going to be a learning process for some time and the vetreans are crucial for the development of the younger players.

Everyone on the fourm has good points, and they see what they see from their point of view. There's nothing wrong with that. However, I recommend that they go and watch some games with Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson, and Bill Walton etc. Players who couldn't jump or run fast, but knew how to play the game. I think you would want them on our team.

Oh, do not even got there on the comparisons.
