I like this deal, but I strongly disagree with anyone who doesn't mind if Bosh walks at the end of the season. Sure we will have a lot of cap space, but for who? I really think 2010 cap space is a bunch of false hope, for a team like the kings.

Agreed. Even if you don't like having Martin and Hawes on the roster, trading them for an ender makes some sense if you think we still need to blow up the team some more, but otherwise isn't getting value. And if you think we need to blow up the team some more, why get a guy who could probably get us to 39 wins before he bails? That's the hell we just escaped from.

The FO needs to decide whether we're done dumping players and rebuilding through the draft or not. If we are, Bosh would need to be extended. If we're not, we shouldn't trade for a short-term impact player, we should be shopping for a worthless ender + good draft picks instead.

The poster is probably not referring to any star players in particular, rather, the poster may be referring to more hard nosed, consummate professionals in the vein of Udoka and Nocioni. Even if we pick up no star, it should not be difficult to get tough role players in here to compliment Evans/ Thompson/ Garcia et.al.

Thanks. That was my actual line of thinking and that is how down/frustrated I am on how the coaching staff had developed Martin and Hawes into softies.

I am more than willing to gamble on the possibility of losing Bosh and just getting tough role players ( like Nocioni in exchange for losing Martin and Hawes ), than have the softness of Martin and Hawes re-infect the whole team with their seemingly endless softness again.

It could very well happen knowing a lot of fans wants Martin and Hawes to be starters on this team for most of the time.

Bosh is alright.. I watch alot of raps games here cuz all my buddys are raps fans.. But he isnt the type of big we are looking for.. Yah hes amazing on offense but his defense is weak.. I'll put it another way. When you have a lot of FA money available, like the Kings do, you should be able to parlay it into a net gain significantly greater (not close) to where you started. This proposal is a marginal improvement over the status quo. Just not worth it.

With an extension I would do this immediately. Without probably not. Burning those two assets for cap space alone would be too hard to swallow.

You're right It doesn't. But by combining the FA money or any enders with player of value (such as Kevin Martin) you might be able to leverage into a trade that makes the Kings significantly better, not just marginally better. Just a thought.

No, we'd be trading for a player already under contract through the end of the year who also has a player option for next year. We'd have right up until some deadline in June or July to try and extend him. Or he could exercise his player option though that is unlikely.

I think there's also a possibility that we complete the trade only on the agreement that he'd sign an extension. Like the trade and extension happen concurrently. I can't remember it ever happening in basketball but it happens in football and baseball.

I dont think Toronto would do this.. their frontcourt is already thin and soft (their starting C Bargnani is a Spencer Hawes v2.0 with some more talent)..

He can't sign the extension and then be traded. Only way to get him guaranteed past this year is sign or sign and trade.

He is not worth as a half a year rental for what we are giving up. If he was the final piece to a championship, then yes. We could get more for Martin / Hawes next year after this FA bonanza is over and teams are looking around to retool / rebuild. Martin will be in his prime and Hawes will be one year older and hopefully better. Seems like too big of a gamble - for not enough payoff.

Says who though? Each year Martin get's hurt and is out for extended periods of times which will actually diminish his value. Same for Hawes, maybe he figures it out by next year or maybe he looks completely lost still which some teams might not value him as much as we obviously do. Really, a year out this pair might LOSE value as opposed to gaining it. Personally, and I hope I'm wrong I really feel KMart's injuries each year are something the Kings Organization needs to take very seriously if they plan on building a contender - we simply cannot have one of our best players hurt for 20+ games a season anymore. I'm all for trading a KMart package in the hopes of landing a resigned Bosh.

Ultimately the player will have the say in the SNT to Sacramento, and it really depends on their overall view of Tyreke Evans right now. IF these superstar players love this kids game and can see themselves going somewhere with Havoc - then we have a pretty solid shot at getting a Bosh or Amare type player but I don't think it will be immediate.
