Bobby Jackson - Surgery (merged)

POINT GUARDS: Rod Strickland, Brandon Armstrong, Troy Bell, Omar Cook, Jay Williams, Corey Alexander, J.R. Bremer, Darrick Martin, Anthony Goldwire, Vonteego Cummings, Kareem Reid, Emanual Davis, Tito Maddox, Marcus Hattan.

Here is whats remaining. I would put my money on Bremer, Alexander or Bell.(suprised to see Jay Williams name out there, didnt know he made it back all the way from his accident)

1. I am happy that, for Bobby's own peace of mind, he got a second opinion.

2. Since he apparently needs the surgery, I am happy he is getting it done right away.

3. I pray that the surgery is successful and that Bobby heals quickly.

Remember: Courtney Alexander has been in town. He's even still listed - or was - on the official Kings website as being part of the team. I wouldn't be surprised to see him re-sign with the team.

Can Courtney handle the PG spot? He really is more of a SG, at least every time I have seen him play. I would love to see him on this team but I think it will be somebody else.

Not a PG at all. Just a question of whether there are actually any PGs out there worth picking up.

he hasn't... yet

Brent Price was on that list but I don't think he'll ever step on an NBA court ever again

Ok Now I'm Confused

WTH is really going on? I can't tell whose being serious and whose not. Bobby is getting the surgery?? Petrie did say he'd pick up someone for sure? Are Both of these true?? And If so, Good! We have to get somebody, and I think Bobby will be better off with the surgery... I just wish he wouldn't have waited so long!

On the news it showed Petrie confirming that Bobby is going to have surgery. In addition, he said the Kings will be picking up a PG after Jan. 5... As far as Bobby waiting, I think he did the right thing. He consulted with a number of specialists before making a decision.

What is the signifigence of Jan 5

I think that's the first day when you can sign players to 10-day contracts but I'm not sure...

I wouldn't mind seeing Alexander back here as a SG/SF, reduce Doug's minutes at SG and alternate him at PG for stretches. Doug can give other PGs lots of problems on offense with his size, and when you've got a good defender on the PG it impedes their whole offensive flow.

The only issue is, who gets the minutes between Alexander/Evans/Barnes? If Evans keeps going like he has been I think it's a no-brainer, and Courtney's signing is just insurance in case of more bad luck.
~~

You have to remember, we will be in need of a backup PG, not any other position. We only have 1 PG on our roster at the moment, dont forget. So I think that signing Courtney is definetely out of the question.

DC has been playing point at times this year. If we did sign Courtney, we could use him to spell DC and then let DC spell Bibby.

That's pretty much what I was trying to say in my rambling, convoluted way. :)

Can we count on Doug to step up BIG for us this year in this way? Until I see some differences in his game from here on out, I'm still resigned to the fact that his foot is still hindering him from playing to the best of his abilities.

We could let Doug play backup point, but that really is a ridiculous situation to be in -- your starting OG, at age 34, is also your ONLY backup PG? I'm not sure there is another team in the league with a situation that bad. A guy gets hurt, gets tossed from a game, gets in foul trouble, just needs a rest etc. and you're screwed. And of course you have noone to run the show at all in garbagetime. Just a lousy situation.

I would like to have Courtney back if he can give us scoring punch. But whetehr we bring him back or not we really need an emergency PG -- a true PG who can bring the ball up against pressure etc. -- if we're going to have to survive like this for almost the entire rest of the season.

Jackson decides to have surgery

By Martin McNeal -- Bee Staff Writer

Sixth man Bobby Jackson has decided to have surgery on a torn ligament in his left wrist after being examined by two more physicians this week in New York, Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie said Wednesday.

Petrie said a date for the surgery has not been determined, but he anticipated it will be within a week and the minimum period for Jackson's rehabilitation to be 12 weeks. That time frame suggests an optimistic return around the first week in April. The regular season ends April 20.

"Bobby was examined by Dr. Norm Scott (the New York Knicks' team physician) and Dr. Michelle Carlson, who is a hand specialist, and both confirmed that he does need surgery," Petrie said. "I'm anticipating the surgery will be done (in Sacramento). We'd obviously like to do it as quickly as possible."

Jackson's prolonged absence will result in Sacramento bringing in another player, Petrie said.

"Eventually, we'll put Bobby on the injured list and fill that roster spot," Petrie said. "Hopefully, it will be another backcourt player with point-guard skills. We have a long list of players and a lot of people calling us. We could wait until 10-day contracts become available."

That date is Jan. 5, but the Kings might wait until Jan. 10 when all player contracts become guaranteed and teams may opt to release someone instead of paying his salary for the remainder of the season.

Jackson is difficult to replace, beyond the 11.9 points he averaged in 24 games.

Kings coach Rick Adelman said he'll continue to play shooting guard Doug Christie behind starting point guard Mike Bibby and use Maurice Evans and possibly first-round draft choice Kevin Martin until the roster spot is filled. "We're going to see what happens next week," Adelman said. "Teams will make decisions on some players, and maybe it will free up one we like. We have to just keep calling around and try to stay on top of things."

I have absolutely no idea why we would wait until 10 day contracts become available -- we've got a season long hole to patch, not somebody down for a week or two.

The Jan 10th date could make a difference though -- hobble through a couple of weeks and see the full slate of who's out there in a couple of weeks.

The only advantage to the 10 day contracts I can see is we could pick up someone for 10 days and if it appears they cannot fit into our system, we could always try someone else on a 10 day contract in hopes of finding the "right fit" for the long haul that Bobby is out. I agree that waiting til the 10th, in hopes of getting someone who is released would give us many more to choose from.

Good point.

It's not like there's anyone out there that stands out as being the catch of the day. Sign someone to a 10-day, see what becomes available after Jan. 10 and decide then...

:D

Damon wasnt a catch of the day when we picked him up. I may be mistaken but didn't Petrie pick up Damon Jones on a 10 day the first time? It ended up being a great fit.

Petrie is a pretty good judge of talent so hopefully he pulls another miracle out of his hat -o- tricks.
