Whoever is getting Gilbert for the max is overpaying. He's a good scorer, but is he a game changer? And what about the injuries? If this is true, kiind of hoping Gil saves us from ourselves here.

Agreed. And he only shot 40% last year (and 28% from the 3, although he raised that to 42% in 4 games in the PO). That's not good. His lifetime FG% is 43%.

Only Shelden (43%) and Quincy (39%) have similar FG% for last season among players with any significant PT that are still on the team. Ron is the next closest at 45%.

Wow, I would rather have Baron Davis. why do the kings love players with bad knees?? if we get Agent Zero.....why not get Vince Carter...and pair them with Rahim....lol..then make a move for Bynum and Livingston.

I wouldn't put much faith in that article. For one thing, I doubt there is any way of making it happen. I'm sure that the Maloff's are willing to trade their whole team for shoot first Gilbert.

I mean, just to put this in perspective, in 2006/2007, when Gilbert Arenas averaged 28 ppg, the Wizards won 41 games. He went down with a knee injury, and this past season the Wizards won 43 games mostly without Gil. Two more wins! With the same roster minus Gilbert Arenas! In other words, his presence in 2006/2007 was worth approximately -2 wins.

And this is the guy people are going to throw the max at?

You watch him against Lebron in the playoffs? For better or worse, Gilbert changes games. Not always a good thing.

Edit: Let me be consistent though, I like Arenas and want him on the team. SO do what it takes!

This is a cruel joke by some writer back east. More likely a pipe dream to make it seem other teams want him to try to pressure the Wiz into doing something really stupid.Arenas wants max $$ and is not going to get it. Everyone in ESPN chimes in the Wiz are better team without him. Why then would Kings want someone like that? He is a selfish scorer more interested in money than team or winning. If he goes anywhere he goes to the Warriors and one year with Nelly.

Anyone who believes such a really dumm rumor should stop taking whatever it is they are taking and get into detox. And no one is going to do Kings a favor and take the deadwood Kings don't want (KT, SAR) along with a non-defending BIGs (Brad, Mikki) for anything.

I don't see a problem with the Maloofs trying to get him and saying that we would trade the whole team to get him. Think about the team that we have right now. IMO trading any two players on our team for him would be ok with me.....that is, as long as one of their names isn't Kevin Martin.

Throw out last year's 13 games of stats. Usually he shoots about 43% overall, but because so many of those shots are 3's and because he gets to the line so much he's actually a pretty efficient scorer.

The only way the Wizards consider it is if the principle piece is Martin. I don't think there would have to bee too much around that, but it has to start with Martin. And I'd pull that trigger in a heartbeat.

I would love the Kings to get Gilbert Arenas, he's a spectacular performer, and a terrific competitor.

He would make the Kings relevant again. K-Mart + Gil would be an unstoppable duo!!!

My proposed trade is Gilbert Arenas for Beno Udrih (resigned) + Ron Artest (extended) --

MAKE IT HAPPEN GEOFF!!!

EDIT: Per Sam Amick's blog update, there is no substance to this rumor. It sounded a little strange that we would trade anyone on our roster, when in fact the Kings would not trade Kevin Martin straight up for Gilbert Arenas, but still we should pursue a deal.

Ugh. Kill me now. You people are nuts. Max money for a guy with bad knees who doesn't play defense and doesn't help anyone win games?

Style over substance reigns supreme in Sacramento.

utter nonsense. amick's article says that the kings didn't do this and were surprised to hear about this story. they did, however, offer udrih the mle for 5 years @ 6 mil. which means that as of right now the kings don't actually need a pg- udrih/singletary will be our pg combo for the next few years (assuming singletary can play in the league). otherwise, douby will probably keep getting minutes til we can find another backup.

Whew.

are we so desperate for a "big name" player that we are willing to take on the garbage that is Arenas??? This guy sucks! He will never win a championship! of course unless he joins up with a couple other, actually talented big name players like this years celtics...

he has only played (mostly) healthy for 4 out of the 7 seasons and the ones he was injured he was out for almost the whole season....

he is selfish, he doesnt shoot a good percent from 3pt range yet he jacks 3's all day long...

HES NOT A TEAM PLAYER!

WOW COME ON PEOPLE! HE WAS INJURED ALL LAST YEAR! I WOULD SORTA UNDERSTAND (not really) IF HE AT LEAST HAS A CAREER YEAR AND WAS HEALTHY THE WHOLE TIME... BUT WOW! SOME OF YOU WILL TAKE ANYTHING!

...they are willing to do "whatever it takes" to land his services even if they have to "trade their entire team."...

Balderdash. Hogwash.

No, the Kings are not going to do whatever it takes to land Gilbert Arenas for the simple reason there are just too many other teams out there who can offer more.

I don't think Arenas is planning on going anywhere. He'll be in a Wizards uniform come November. It's the Wizards who will do "whatever it takes" to retain his services, IMHO.

Arenas is one of the few available players that would let us straddle "win now" and "win in the future". He's only Kevin's age and the two combined would be a huge scoring backcourt.

But obviously any rumor where we say "we would trade the entire team" is bogus. For the right deal (perhaps Artest/Miller), there is a real thought there. Or don't trade Ron and trot out Arenas/Kevin/Artest in the highest scoring PG/SG/SF combo seen in the league in some time. But this isn't a LeBron where you literally WOULD trade the entire team to get him.

I heard it on the Rise Guys this morning that a source close to Gilbert Arenas says that they wanted him on the Kings. Take it for what its worth.

But would you pay him the max? I mean, I like the idea of Arenas and Martin in theory, but when you start thinking of paying Arenas and Martin $30 million combined... that's half the cap right there, and it's before we've even seriously addressed the frontcourt. You still have an entire roster to fill out.

And, while we're at it, let's alienate our whole roster by saying that we're hoping to trade them. And that's probably going to be the only result of this, I seriously doubt that Arenas is coming to Sac.
