Blazers - Grizzlies - Kings

Smills91

Starter
Kings deal: Jason Thompson and 2011 2nd round pick via Bucks
Kings receive: OJ Mayo, DeMarre Carroll

Blazers deal: Rudy Fernandez and Luke Babbitt
Blazers receive: Jason Thompson

Grizzlies deal: OJ Mayo, DeMarre Carroll
Grizzlies receive: Rudy Fernandez, Luke Babbitt, 2011 2nd round pick via Bucks

Kings get a shooter and free up minutes in their frontcourt
Grizzles shed a little money, add prospects and add depth to their backcourt.
Blazers add much needed rebounding at only the expense of deep bench players.

King roster:

C: Dalembert, Cousins, Whiteside
PF: Landry, Jackson, Carroll
SF: Casspi, Greene, Wright
SG: Mayo, Garcia, Head
PG: Tyreke, Beno, Jeter

Considering the Grizzilies put themselves in a deep hole signing Gay and Conley to expensive contracts and might not have enough money to extend both Gasol and Mayo... this trade makes a little sense but I think the Grizz would want a little more than just a bench player, an unproven rookie and a 2nd round pick for one of their best players....

Interesting twist on the Mayo to Kings idea. I like that you get Memphis a SG replacement in Rudy, and he's got his Spaniard buddy there, to boot. Still not sure if that's enough for the Grizz, seems like it's too good of a deal for the Kings. Maybe we send a protected first to Memphis, too?

i dont like it cuz it makes Tyreke the pg, we need a speedy point guard ala Aaron Brooks

Our offense was OK with Beno at the other guard spot next to Reke, it just made our defense atrocious. If OJ can bring the Beno offensive game (he can) with better defense (likely) he's the ideal upgrade. I'm not sure Brooks' D is all that much better than Beno's, to be honest.

Even if you don't include DeMarre Carroll, I don't see the Grizz doing this at all. You don't give up your proven scorer (#3 pick two years ago) for an unproven rookie and a disgruntled replacement.

Now, if you cut out the middle man and send out Thompson for Fernandez and whatever cap filler is necessary (Babbitt, Elliot Williams) that might be worth a look for us, although Rudy's declining percentages are disconcerting.

I'd rather nab Wesley Matthews in 2 weeks than Rudy, quite frankly. Portland needs a player a lot more like JT than they do WM. Rudy can back-up Roy who I think makes it through the majority of the season.

Am a fan of OJ and do this in an instant, just dont see the grizz getting much back from this deal at all. We basically add a good young guard without losing beno which adds to our options backcourt

Am I the only one missing why Portland needs a guy like JT so much?

And on top of Wes Matthews of all people? Explain that please, cause the way I see it, with Prizbilla back preety soon, Camby, Aldridge, and another scub big body is more then enough.. surely not THAT bad of a situation to be in, for them to trade Matthews whos been playing great for them bringing D, hustle plays, spark off the bench, and overall solid role player role to thier team on top of being a 2nd year player.

What on earth can JT help them with? I mean they got a preety good rebounders on thier team already in almost all positions..sorry but I don't get this at ALL.

I have no idea if they would want JT or not, but I suspect they would. They have two players with experience and who are also healthy on the roster at the center and PF position. Camby and Aldridge. Unless you want to count Sean Marks who has averaged around 5 MPG for his career. The only other player is inexperienced, undersized, PF Dante Cunningham. Pryzbilla is coming off double knee surgery, and by all accounts is healthy. But one never knows until he's got a few games under his belt, and there's no guarantee he'll be the same pre-injury Pryzbilla. Oden is a non factor.

So if Pryzbilla proves to be healthy, they're left with a three man rotation of Camby, Aldridge, and Pryzbilla, with neither Camby or Pryzbilla being PF's. So they could certainly use Thompson. Now what they're willing to part with to get him is another story.

I listen to a lot of sports radio from Portland (used to live in Oregon), and it sounds like Roy's knee is looking very bleak for the future. The rumor is that's why Portland overpaid for Mathews this past summer when he had only 1 starting year under his belt with mediocre numbers. I don't think there is anyway Portland lets Mathews go with the projections of Roy's declining career.

I'd imagine that either the Blazers or the Grizzlies (if we just did a 2 team deal) would be more interested in Landry. He gives them scoring off the bench (which they both desperately need).

If we kept things simple and just dealt with the Grizzlies, I'd be curious if they would be interested in Landry + Garcia for Mayo + filler. Garcia gives them 75% of what Mayo does (shooting & decent passing with worse D), plus he can play off the ball better than Mayo who I assume wants more chances to create. Landry gives them scoring off the bench that they really need with Allen/Carroll/Thabeet/Young/Vasquez being their current bench. I could see this being a deal that actually benefits both teams.

I think it'd be Landry+? for Mayo, but I don't think they'd be interested in Garcia and his contract, especially with them having to deal with re-signing Gasol, Randolph and Landry all next summer.

Switch Landry for JT (assuming the dollars work) and I'd seriously think about it. I know Carroll isn't looking good right now, but I expect him to be on the upswing next season as he goes back to doing the dirty work that earned him his "Junkyard Dog" nick at Missouri. He'll never be a superstar, but he could contribute and would be a great locker room presence.

Well from reading Blazer forums/fans opinions they do want another big bodied skilled player (especially one that can produce offensively). They would be interested but I'm sure they'd be more interested in Landry (to our delight).

That's a good point. I just don't think they'd want to be left with Xavier Henry as their only wing. Do they have any contracts roughly equal to Garcia's we can take back? I'm getting ready to leave work and can't check ESPN right now.

whats with this fascination for mayo? he's like 6'3, undersized for the 2 guard position.

I think a lot of people like the concept of a Mayo and Evans backcourt. Having two talented combo guards who can both play D and in my opinion compliment each other fairly well. Is it the end all solution of course not but we'll take talent any way we can get it right about now.
