I wouldn't pay Mozgov that money anyway. Hopefully this puts our focus entirely on Oden, with Aldrich as the back up plan.

maybe they think that 5 bigs is enough. I'd be hoping for a trade, but if there's nothing available, there isn't too much harm in going into the season with the bigs we have.

The only time I truly trust per 36 numbers, is when the player in question plays 36 minutes. But they become most questionable when your going on 7 or 8 minutes a game. There's no consideration for endurance, or the other teams adjustments, or the different players on the floor, etc, etc, etc. And I haven't even gotten to the weather!
This made me think. Why per 36? The game is 48 minutes long. Why not per 48 instead? Hell, why not do analysis on per minute stats and treat one tenths of a point like gold? These are the things that keep me up at night.

Hard to believe no NBA team has signed Aldrich. Wonder if his agent is asking for more than a team wants to give him? Perplexing, because he certainly seems worthy of a contract as a back-up NBA big.

Some sites do use per 48. I used to use it myself, until most of the sights switched to per 36, likely because that theoretically imitates a major starter's minutes. The point is the per minute, but like advanced stats, you start putting up things in stupid decimal form its difficult to read or associate with and half your audience's eyes roll up, so per 36 it is.

Well, five big's is enough, depending on who they are. Most teams only go with a three man rotation, four at most. In reality, with Hayes only being 6'6", we only have 4 bigs on the team.

at any rate, there isn't much incentive to set up a competition over the scrap minutes behind Cuz/JT/Landry/PPat, unless there's somebody involved that's actually going to play a role in the future for this team. since that's fairly unlikely and there doesn't appear to be any trade in the works, or at least none likely to be consummated before the trade deadline, it'd be a surprise if anybody else was signed.

While I agree that we've heard no rumors about a trade, that doesn't mean there's no conversation going on. What I do surmise, based on a comment from D'Allesandro, is that he wants to have one roster spot open for an opportunity when it presents itself. For that reason, I doubt he'll sign a fringe player to fill that spot. I have to assume that he looks at Aldrich as a fringe player at this point. So personally, I think any future moves that occur before training camp, if there are any, will come through a trade.

It's also possible they see Thompson as more of a back-up center than the previous regime. Personally, it make me nervous not having another true center type on the team.

I'm getting pretty annoyed that we appear to be done with Aldrich. Lets just replace every full sized front court player that we have with undersized, scoring front court players, shall we?! When Aldrich is on the floor defense and rebounding improve. Are defense and rebounding important? Evidently they're not as important as tiny, crafty scoring!

I want Aldrich back, too. But the fact is NO team has signed Aldrich does raise some flags. My guess is that his agent is asking for too much...

You could be right.. I haven't checked lately, but 82 games used to show that JT was more effective playing center than he was playing PF. Wasn't a huge difference, but playing center isn't much of a transition for him, and he has the size for the position. Its not as though they need him at PF with the addition of Landry to go along with Patterson. Although, I have a gut feeling that they intend to experiment with Patterson at the SF position at times.

How to improve one of the worst defensive and rebounding teams in the league 101: get smaller up front, and replace largish starting PF with midget chucker.
I obviously do not think very highly of PDA's work so far, but even I have a hard time seeing him being that big of a fool. I will continue to assume that there is something afoot behind the scenes right up until the point he proves himself a blithering idiot and begins the season with this frontcourt as is.

JT is above average for a backup center when it comes to offense. But on defense he's probably at best middle of the road. I'm missing Aldrich.
If we don't get Aldrich back, or somebody of a similar ilk, I'm going to have to go full bore into the Brick camp and lobby for big guys that can block a shot once in while. Thabeet anyone?

Please, don't bring up Thabeet. So far he's been everything I said he would be. Look, I've nothing against getting a shotblocker. Anyone want to tell me who, and how? Just because we want one, doesn't mean we go down to the shopping mart and buy one. Pick one out for me, and then tell me how we acquire him. It takes two to tango.

I should have put a tongue-in-check icon after my last sentence about Thabeet.
At this point, just give me Aldrich and call it an off-season. Unless Cousins is totally transformed, we need to have a legit defensive presence as a back-up center.

His best move of the offseason was trading a future second rounder for a role player coming off of an injury. Everything else PDA has done falls between "Crap" and "Are you %$#% kidding me?!"
