Berger: Kings seeking frontcourt help.

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Miles Plumlee apparently wants out of Phoenix, and they are trying to oblige him. Can't get Mason, get his bro.

Unfortunately 1) if he wants out because he's losing time to Len, he would really love playing behind Cuz; 2) they are looking for a first, and we can't send one until about the time Buck Rogers is due to show up because our pick is still entangled. Of course that's before we get to the question of whether expecting a first for Miles is realistic or not.

The problem now, once again... is that players absolutely will dread being traded to Sac. Without solid head coaching driving the train somewhere, we're a disorganized mess trying to be solved by factions fighting for their own self interests. This means we'll necessarily have to give out more talent than we'll get in return, by which I mean players will tend to underperform here (in addition to being incorrectly utilized).

Anyone want to speculate why Abdur-Rahim left the Kings post 2014 NBA draft? He was not on board with something. I'm guessing he was very vocal in wanting to pick Payton or Vonleh over Stauskas.
I think I read that he didn't want Stauskas and that he wasn't on board with what they were going to do in Reno....iirc.

They want a first. Would they take a 'broken' first round player?

Plumlee and Stauskas are both available. The Kings want a big, the Suns want something before his value goes completely in the tank. Salaries almost match up.

Plumlee and one of Bullock, Warren, Ennis or Goodwin for Stauskas works and makes sense to me.

I also probably like Plumlee more than most. He is a really good defender, especially in the pick and roll which is an area the Kings bigs rarely defend well. He's more 'rim protecty' than JT, and he's enough of an athlete to pair with Cousins. I'd play them together. Or at the very least, I think they can play together. JT / Cousins / Plumlee / Landry gives you a few different / good pairings with three of those guys (Cousins, Thompson, Plumlee) offering a high rebound / defensive potential.

It was always going to come down to McLemore or Stauskas. The whole 'they will play together' thing is and was a farce. One of them will be here, one of them won't. I don't mind dealing one of them off before the rest of the NBA knows which one is better. Maybe it's too early to deal Nik, Maybe it isn't, but I like Plumlee quite a bit. If he's available, I'm calling.

If we could get one of Bullock, Warren, Ennis or Goodwin with Plumlee for Nik, I would be amazed and happy. There is a deal to be made between the teams if they can pull it off.

I think going after Miles Plumlee would be great. He should be able play next to Cousins. He's shown some shooting ability and he's no doubt mobile enough to play in a duel big lineup with Cuz.

I'm not opposed to plumlee as a 15-20 minute big that steals minutes from Evans and hollins but I wouldn't spend much to get him.

JT is a better fit to stretch the floor and he isn't much of an upgrade as a rim protector. He doesn't pass well so beyond being low usage, I'm not sure he helps in ball movement.

Would I want us to waste another asset in a recent lotto pick like nik on him? Not a chance.

think he's in a contract year. unless we're prepared to "SHOW ME THE MONEY" it'll be another situation where we collect 2nd rounder + trade exception.

Yall probably won't want to hear this, but a deal that makes sense with PHX is:

We get: IT, Plumlee

They get: Stauskas, D-Will

Why we do it: You get back a popular fan favorite (this board aside) and a guy you can run with Collison in the back-court at different times of the game, which negates the need for real back-up PG and SG minutes (something we struggle with mightly). With this deal, you also turn our weak bench into an absolute strength: IT, Casspi, Landry, Plumlee is deep, can supplement the starters in a variety of different ways depending on the need at the time. Getting IT back and off the bench would also give us the much needed 3rd scoring option who can create for himself while also fixing a lot of the problems from last season of Rudy-Cuz-IT playing together (even though I'll debate heavily that it wasn't much of an issue).

Collison || IT
Ben || IT/Collison
Gay || Casspi
JT || Landry
Cuz || Plumlee

with Reggie, Ray, D-will and Sessions for more depth. That's a roster that can compete on a nightly basis and fills in a lot of the holes we have now.

Why they do it: They tried the 3 PG experiment which is doing reasonably well, but it's clear they won't be able to afford all 3. They're playing pretty good basketball right now, but by giving them D-Will's expiring, they basically get a reset on their cap use on IT and adding Stauskas for their troubles. And with Plumlee being "disgruntled" of sorts, they get rid of a guy who's not really in their long-term plans

If IT would embrace his 6th man role, not just lip service, we could use his offense off the bench. That's a big IF though.

Stauskas trades? Really? For a guy who was taken at the end of the first round? IMO the Kings are going no where this season. I say give Stauskas the ball in his minutes and tell him to do his thing. Right now he is passing the ball at a high percentage. I say tell him it is OK to make a few mistakes and play him 15 to 20 minutes every game.

It is becoming obvious that if it is left to Ty Corbin Stauskas will see DNP CD a lot.

Seeking to trade for a bg man? Yes. Seeking a trade for quality upgrade at the C, at the PF, at the SF, at the SG and at the PG? I think so. They need upgrades at all those positions. I hope it is not using JT or Nik. My original choice last year was Ben and it still is and his value has gone up since last year. I think he is much more appealing to other teams now. Maybe something good will come of thus.

I wouldn't want to send Nik down to Reno either. Not with that system.
he ain't getting any play in sac. might as well send him over there and get some playing time. it's not like there is a stable structure here in sac anyway. are the sets he's learning in practice going to be utilized by the next coach. probably not. nothing to lose and everything to gain in this situation.

To be fair, I don't think you can say he's not getting any play in sacramento because he missed two games. Up till then he was a regular part of the rotation. I'm not sure I would want to send him to Reno either.

I read that Terrence Jones of the Rockets is about to come back. Houston has been on a run without him, and I wonder how many minutes he's going to get. It might be possible to pry him away. He's young, and he's a good defender as well as someone whose outside shot has improved every year. He's only played in four games so far this year, and was playing very well.

Been asking around about Faried. Denver fans think he worth a great deal, would be McLemore and some firsts instead of Nik. I'm not so sure GM's think the Faried contract is all that great. Probably would be better off to wait on Faried till draft time if Denver even wants to blow it up.

Hahaha i needed that one after last night. I wouldn't even so faried for Nik/1st let alone Ben
