Artest

Kingster

Hall of Famer
Just heard Napier say that he thinks the Kings will definitely trade Ron Artest in the offseason. He said that there may be other teams that think they can control him, so he does think there will be takers. Lamb also made reference to the fact that you don't hear half of what Artest does in the locker room. I just hope that there are a lot of GMs out there who think they have the coach who can control Artest. It just means more potential bidders. Who knows, maybe a team hires Adelman and thinks that it would be a great combo. I say, BE MY GUEST!

I wonder why Napear leaked this.

Napear didn't leak anything. He's merely speculating.

Besides, Napear has to come up with something to talk about. Who doesn't think Artest will be on the trading block? It's not exactly rocket science...

;)

I agree that it's speculation, especially if Lamb is saying boneheaded things which will damage Artest's trade value. Way to shoot the whole organization in the foot, guy.

I don't really see how it hurts the organization. I doubt any GMs/sources for other teams are listening. IMO it may have been "leaked" to prepare the fans that Artest will be gone.

As long as the return isn't bad contracts I'll be glad if we can get something of value for artest, even if it's a small value.

i'm of the thinking that Artest CAN be controlled by the right people. and we may have just had one of them a season ago.

Question is, what Value does Artest have, and IF he was moved, would any team in their right mind take a chance on him, as is..

Also the question on my mind is.. Will the maloof's let petrie make the decisions this time around??? I Cant believe petrie would have let the trade deadline just fly by with nothing.. Hes waaay too good a GM for that..

It takes two to tango. There's every indication Petrie DID try to make some deals but the pieces he was willing to move were not the ones other teams wanted.

In fact, this wasn't a very big year for trades anywhere in the league. So I don't think it was a matter of the Maloofs letting Petrie do anything so much as him not having the right bait to catch anything.

So, with that said, what do you think the level of involvement is from the maloof's.. Is it too much and ruining the "Kool Aid" batch? or is it too little and they need to get on it... I don't know the maloofs well, but I am not sure im ready to put them in the same NBA knowledge category as a GM... But, do they think they are?

Not really the case at all. The deals were there but he decided not to pull the trigger. He let the other GM's do all the work and in the end he didn't bend. Right move or wrong time will tell.

and when was the last time Grant was right about ANYTHING having to do with the Kings??

This one will have to be seen as it plays out. GP could just as easily not given Ron up for less than his value. As pointed out, this has not been the best trade year. If he gets anything of value for him later, he is vindicated. If not, it is another mark against him. Who is perfect, after all?

How do you know? From everything that's been said - and that's not much, at all - I didn't see any deals that I'm upset Petrie didn't take.

It didn't sound speculative at all. He sounded very sure, and he didn't qualify his statement like he normally does. It's very, very rare that he's wrong when he's this definitive. I think he's got a very good source for being that definitive.

If Riles comes back for another year, Miami woul remain my frontrunner. Not only the coach who can command Artest's respect, but the players as well. But with ron being an ending contract, next year would be the year when teams might gamble on him figuring they could just cut ties if it does not work.

In any case, this is months away. I suspect that Grant may be right, but am curious just in that the trade deadline was just a month ago and we didn't hear much about moving Ron at that time. So maybe the subsequent legal problems again. There are definitely reasons to do it of course, but I always fear the blatant Pejaesque stupidity of our supposed basketball minds saying "we look pretty without him, we'd be better off!" and then dumping our most talented player because obviously we are better without him. I'm tired of that dumbness, and tired of being right about that dumbness. If they move Ron, I hope to your choice of deity that this time they've got a bleeping plan.

Artest will be very tradeable in the offseason. He can opt out of his contract after next year and he will be playing for a big payday so he more than likely will play hard and stay clean....kind of like the Artest we had last year.

Just move him. Period. I don't care if he has talent. He's radioactive. He's unpredictable, chaos-producing, and risky. His talent doesn't come close to making up for those characteristics. His value is diminished by those characteristics. He'll never be the core of any team because of those characteristics. At most, he'll be a bit player that another team will take with a minimal contract for a minimal amount. That team could be Miami because they have a solid core, and Artest would be peripheral to the core. On this team, Artest demands to be the core, an entirely different proposition..... I didn't know Peja was stupid?:)

right now the most important aspect is that we get off to a fresh start in the rebuilding process and i don't think it's good to have artest apart of that process. it was an experiment that failed, it's time to cut our losses and just move on.
