Artest....my favorite part

6th

Homer Fan Since 1985
A couple of people mentioned tonight things that I had also noticed about Artest.

1. terrific defense
2. inspires others to play defense
3. cheers for his teammates from the sidelines
4. gets all the guys communicating on the court
5. high fives the kids on the sidelines
6. waits for the guys to come off the court before leaving for the locker room
7. really makes the Kings look like a team

Most of those things are all aspects of the most surprising and promising development of all with Ron -- LEADERSHIP.

I love his awareness of the ball on defense and just the way he uses his hands. I've never seen someone so good at deflecting the passes of the man he's guarding. All the slapaways, deflections and clean takeaways plus hardly any ticky-tacky touch fouls/reach-ins.

What I like about watching Ron (and always have) is the intensity with which he seems to defend every time. Its like he takes it as a personal mission to never let the other team score.:D

Yeah, wonder if any of this inspiring presence and effort could ever even remotely seep into Bibby's brainwave...

I think he has had a terrific attitude both on and off the court. In the interviews I have heard he has shown a lot of patience w/the press and ignored their jabs. He has clearly demonstrated a positive mental attitude when dealing with fans and his peers. I was/am incredibly impressed with Bonzi and all he has accomplished with his attitude (fearlessness, aggression, team spirit, unwillingness to give up, etc...) and I find my self equally impressed with Ron.

I may be dreaming...but to me it seems like bibby is threatened...ive just been watching it on nba.com but he hasnt taken NEARLY as many shots, and just appears on the stats sheet to be more laxidazical. Kind of like he feels like hes been replaced....

Thoughts?

Somethin is up w/ that guy. That's what i am suspecting. I suppose we all have our versions of the delicate ego and i wonder if MB has gotten kind of disillusioned w/ all the excitement over Ron and the youngsters steppin up.

I mean it's all speculation at best but there was a time when i was more inspired by Mike's play and how he made things happen, especially w/ his penetration game and even his defensive play

But keep in mind these guys are getting paid big bucks and when someone like Ron Artest goes on display it's hard not to expect some of that standard to be upheld by all those truly committed to the team and the folks paying the bill...

Now please keep in mind i'm not necessarily bailin or whinin. I just want to see this team succeed and the only way that's gonna happen is for EVERYBODY to step up.

And the point is that RA is showing the folks just exactly how you do that. And that's what i call leadership...

I think that's unlikely just because you are talking about a whole other level of player.

Ron has really impressed, not as a great player, but as a GREAT player. I knew he was very very good, but he's been better than that. He's shown the leadership, court awareness, inspirational ability of the truly great ones. Maybe Bird wasn't so far off after all when he called Ron a Top 12 player (and Bird of course would know). I am considerably encouraged if he can JUST keep his head. My big hope here is all of this responsibilty is what Ron has been craving, and with the whole team looking up to him, he'll actually control himself for them, not him.

I think it's just Bibby knowing he doesn't have to carry the team on his back like he did last month.

Agree w/ most of this but i don't expect Bibby to be a whole other level of player like RA i just expect him to play a bit more like the standard. Just some movement in that direction. Not because i need it but because the Kings do. And that's the team i have been very interested in for quite a few years now...

Mike is going to have to adjust to not having to carry the team on his back. On one hand I'll bet he is relieved, on the other hand being BMOC has its perks.

I derived a theory based on that...

Ever since the Webber trade, Bibby has procliamed himself the leader of this team...Sure he is (was?) our best player, but he's not a leader...People never really seemed to back Bibby as a leader, and get excited over it...But since Ron's been here, which is what? 8 games? People have been proclaiming him as the new leader.

I won't deny that I think Ron's clearly already our leader, but I feel Bibby feels a bit miffed as he's been trying to push himself as our leader for nearly a full calender year, then gets "toppled" in less than a month by a newcomer.

I thought I was crazy, but if other people think it?

Anyways, I can't wait until they actually gel...I think this team is going to be really fun to watch once we all get used to each other.

I love the way Ron is all over the court while defending (esp. since he is still not in gameshape, and has had the hip pointer injury). He defends or tries to defend everybody out there on the court and won't stop until either we come up with a stop or the until the opponents shot is good. He is relentless chasing down opponents and simply overpowers them into submission. He get into the passing lanes and frustrates the opposing teams with quick hands and strong physique. In a word, why do I love Ron Artest? DEFENSE.

amen.

Six assists! Finding the cutter... I guess that comes under court awareness. He really seems to be picking up Carril's schemes. Gotta love a player who HAS to win!
