Artest interview

Not to be mean but one thing that annoys me about Ron Artest is the way he talks. He stutters too much and looks down too much while he's talking, haha.

Talked about how he loved Sacramento, the fans, the Maloofs, the coach, etc. He talked about how the Kings are going to make the playoffs and we can beat anybody. How Kobe wouldn't light him up again. He said that it was hard in Indiana because every little thing he did people would magnify it. He said he thinks SA will beat Dallas in the game later. He said some more stuff but I forgot. It was a really good interview. Ron handled the interview well IMO.

He was flattered that LBJ had said he's glad he only has to play him twice. he's working on his conditioning. He loves the owners, players etc. he was well accepted in Sac. We will make the playoffs. It was hard starting off on the road. We can beat Mavs,Spurs in PO's. He said Pacers can beat Pistons in Po's. Pacers good without him, they're in transition. He's a team player, was frustrating being in Indiana, still friends with Jermaine. His defense on kobe won't be like that again. The they asked him about the second game and Ron thinks Dallas will do well in PO's but won't beat Spurs. Takes more pride in his defense but likes the offense also.
Sorry it was kind of disjointed but that was basically it.

Dude, that is mean. It's called a speech impediment – if you had one you wouldn’t be making such an asinine comment .

k.

Then you get annoyed easily over nothing. That's how Ron's been from seeing him over the years, doesn't make a difference to me.

No real comment. I would guess a younger member but not meant as an insult towards him.

.... No need to bash someone for the way they talk. Do you make fun of the way people look?

I love the "we will make the playoffs" attitude that Ron Ron brings. Didn't see the interview but liked your briefs Loops  AHHHHHHH that came out wrong I am a dood, you appear to be a dood. DOUBLE :eek:

Obviously I didn't know he had a speech impediment, I take that comment back but it's just sometimes hard to tell what he's trying to say or the point he's trying to make

I'm not actually sure what he has is truly a speech impediment so much as a guy who just speaks without thinking sometimes and appears nervous and kind of stream-of-consciousness. You rarely see Ron take a moment to gather himself and say the right thing. It just all kind of comes pouring out. I can see the potential for trouble to spill forth like that too, although I really think/hope that most more settled people who hear Ron say something rather than see it in print can kind of dismiss those things.

I do think there may be something there with Ron. Not a speech impediment, but some people have a hard time getting their thoughts translated to the verbal. Nothing to do with how intelligent a person is, any more than a reading disability. But to me, it looks like he struggles sometimes to express himself. And sometimes it comes out wrong. Which can lead to unfortunate results when the media is hanging on every word and analyzing the meaning of every phrase ad naseum. (Fans too.)

I think you should shut up (I dont want to be too mean, but I have one and it is not fun, sometimes I cant get words out and it is very embarrassing), if you had a speach problem you wouldnt be saying that about anyone.

I haven't seen any of his interviews but he sounds like he has the same problem I do. Not a speech impediment, just rather nervous when talking and has difficulty in putting thoughts into words.

Well I don't think saying "shut up" will get you anywhere, I clearly didn't mean to bash Ron it's just hard to tell what point(s) he is trying to make. As to whoever said do I make fun of people's appearance or whatever earlier, No I do not, I am not that kind of person. It's not like I'm making fun of anyone who has a speech impediment, so can we try to layoff the bashing overall? I wasn't trying to make fun of Ron.

Doesn't Denis Rodman have a slight stutter when he speaks? Anyway, I'm glad Artest is happy in a Sac. A happy Artest = a happy Kingsfan.

I hope that's his true feelings. I can't tell whether he's BSing or not. I like what Artest has brought to us, the toughness and effort. But as some people have been telling me it's a matter of time before he blows up somehow, which I hope doesnt happen

He's not BSing, it's obvious in a number of interivews he's done (ESPNx2/press conf. w/ Petrie/tonight on TNT).

I'm not really buying into him "blowing up" evenutally because of how he's been overall, since 2005.

Think about it...we can gather all that info about Ron just from his interviews. Those who play with him every day just get used to it. Of course it is no biggy.

I actually love it that he does not have a polished public personae or a that he is not self-centered rectum. He's a diamond geezer.

I'm of the opinion that it is quite the opposite, where Ron is thinking too much, and he tries to gather all his thoughts, but fails to, which results in him stumbling/ stuttering when he responds. Obviously, the outcome is the same where it does all come pouring out and you can see the nervousness at times. But who really cares, mental or speech impediment, Artest is a warrior on the court and I love it.:)

Never read this before

Associated Press - April 19, 2004

Ron Artest finally got the type of recognition he says he deserves.

The Indiana forward was the runaway choice for NBA Defensive Player of the Year on Monday, the same day he was suspended for one game for leaving the bench during a confrontation in the Pacers' playoff win over the Boston Celtics.

He received 476 points out of a possible 605, including 80 of 121 first-place votes from a panel of sports writers and broadcasters.

"I've been doing it behind the scenes since I was a rookie in Chicago," Artest said. "It's just been behind the scenes. People know I'm coming out to stop them and it hasn't changed since."
Two-time defensive player of the year winner Ben Wallace of Detroit finished second, and Portland's Theo Ratliff was third.

Artest was chafed when he finished second to Wallace last season, partially because of his reputation as a loose cannon. He was suspended five times for a total of 12 games last season and fined repeatedly for flagrant fouls and emotional outbursts.

This year, Artest has shown a maturity and poise that was sorely lacking in the past. Not coincidentally, the Pacers won an NBA-best 61 games in the regular season.

Always drawing the opposing team's best perimeter scorer, Artest finished third in the league with 2.08 steals a game.

The 6-foot-7, 246-pound Artest uses his fullback's build to muscle opponents and his quick feet to keep them in front of him.

"I've played against two of the best in Joe Dumars and Michael Cooper, and Ron has those guys blown away," teammate Reggie Miller said. "That combination of strength and speed, that's a hard match for anybody."

Sacramento's Peja Stojakovic agreed, saying Artest and San Antonio's Bruce Bowen, who finished fourth in the voting, were the two toughest defenders he faces.

Artest credited his teammates for the award, particularly fellow All-Star Jermaine O'Neal.

"If guys like Paul Pierce or Kobe (Bryant) happen to get by me, he's always going get my back," Artest said. "We're the defensive team of the year."

He can also thank coach Rick Carlisle and his staff for conducting an exhaustive campaign. Carlisle made personal phone calls to voting members and had two assistants break down film of Artest's 8,000 defensive possessions to give him quantifiable statistics to make his case.

Carlisle said Artest held opponents to 9.4 shots and 8.1 points a game when he was matched up one-on-one.

"It was mind boggling that he had that kind of impact," Carlisle said. "You know it's going to be tough to score, but it may be even tougher just to get the ball."

What separates Artest from past winners like Wallace and Dennis Rodman is his ability on offense. The team's second-leading scorer averaged a career-high 18.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists this year.

Artest will miss Game 2 of the Pacers' series against Boston on Tuesday night after playing a pivotal role in their 104-88 win in Game 1.

He scored 24 points and also shut down Paul Pierce in the final three quarters of the game.

Even Pacers' president and basketball Hall of Famer Larry Bird marvels at Artest's versatility.

"He's big and he's strong. His quickness laterally puts you into a position you don't want to get, but I wouldn't mind taking a shot at him -- 20 years ago," Bird cracked.

Never one to worry too much about his performance on the defensive end, Bird didn't hesitate when asked what would have happened on the other end.

"He would have got his 30," Bird said with a smile.
