Another Sac/Memphis Trade...

The Kings/Griz trade ideas seem to be ever so popular these days so I thought I'd take a stab at it...

Sac Trades:

Kevin Martin
Donte Green
#4 Pick

Memphis Trades

Rudy Gay
Marco Jaric
#2 Pick

Why Sac does it:

First off, I'll admit that I'm a big Rudy Gay fan. I think we can definitely say improved defense there over Martin. And while he's not quite the scorer Martin is, he still averaged 18.9 ppg last season and hit 35% of his 3's. Of course with the number 2 pick we get Rubio who I'm also pretty big on. There were a few nights I happily stayed up till 4-5am to watch the Spanish team play in the Olympics. There are plenty of arguments for and against already so I'm not gonna rehash all that. So that hopefully sets us at the 1,3,4 and 5 for years to come, with a hole we need to fill at the 2. If we can figure out where Curry is going to fall to in the draft maybe we can talk someone into giving up their pick for our #23 and #31 and some cash or something. If nothing else I'd be ok seeing Cisco fill that hole next season and hopefully we can either pick someone up in 2010 draft or use the KT expiring to snag someone. I know in Jaric we're taking on another contract of Kenny Thomas-esque wtfness but without it Memphis points and laughs and walks away. And probably say something mean about Geoff's mom while they're at it.

Why Memphis does it:

Mayo has said he would like to play point guard. (See link below) So sliding him over to the 1 and having Martin at the 2 would make for a pretty deadly backcourt on the offensive end. Memphis has the potential for about $14 mil in capspace this offseason, assuming they keep Warrick around, which should allow them to take a shot at signing Hedo. (Sorry folks, he's not coming back.) With him able to do the point forward thing, this gives Mayo a chance to learn to play pg without all the pressure being dumped on him from day one. So this gives them a pretty solid starting five of Mayo, Martin, Hedo, Warrick and Gasol. With Mayo filling the pg position, the number two pick (aka Rubio) becomes a little less valuable to them. Hence the willingness to trade down. Greene is just a little added filler... Hedo is quite a bit older than the rest of the starting five, so maybe by the time Hedo is ready to call it a day hopefully Donte will be ready to fill his shoes. With Gay around, and Noc backing him up, I don't see Donte doing anything but rotting on the bench here and I'd like to see the kid get a chance to play even if it's not here.

Here's the link to the SI article with Mayo saying he'd like to play point guard... although if you do a search on it you'll find it's a somewhat popular theme.

Oh... and hi everyone, been trolling for about a year but figured I should probably get around to posting one of these days =) Please be gentle!!

hey whats up first things first.. welcome!

if the salaries match then id pull the trigger throw in the 23rd pick and im sold for that idea!

It'd be a great trade for us, but I don't see it working out. I really believe Rudy Gay has more value than Kevin Martin because he has a better all around game and is younger, and the #2 is obviously better than the #4.

I wouldn't mind trading KMart to the Grizz to get Rubio, but I doubt we would get Rudy back aswell.

i tried a lot of possible options for a sac memphis trade considering martin and gay

and all i can say is all my combinations did not find a match in salaries

trading KMart JT 23rd 31st pick for RUbio Gay and filler is pretty much good... we can use the 4th to pick Hill.

In this one both teams are under the cap... and the salaries should actually be fairly close I thought. I think you have about 11 mil changing sides on both teams unless the numbers I found are wrong. Rudy at about $3.5, Jaric at about $7... then Martin at $10 and Donte at a little under $1. I've never been able to get a trade with Martin to work because of the BYC thing but that'll be gone soon enough.

I know the trade value definitely swings in our favor... but then again we are taking Jaric's contract which has 2 more seasons on it for roughly $7-7.5 million a year. And Rudy is an expiring this year so we/they'd have to resign him for probably a bit more than what Martin is making. That bumps them up to nearly $20 million for one player and one scrub. Instead of just $10 million for Martin. With Darko expiring after 09-10 season that would have them well in the running for 2010. And we are giving up Donte, who I know at this point is just a first rate chucker but who knows how good he'll end up being.

If it took the 23rd pick to make this deal go down I'd gladly throw it in!

The Kings won't be under the cap until after the draft, when the new cap is established by the league and, the Kings release the rights to all players whose contracts are up. That doesn't prevent teams from working out deals in advance, but nothing could be done legally until July 1st or possibly july 8th, when the new cap is projected to be released.

The reason the trade can't be done now, is because of Martin being a BYC player. That means that although he's making $9,260,335.00 this past year, only 50% of that salary can be used in making a trade. Therefore the salaries don't match. That will all change when the new cap is established in july.

I have no clue how you work out an agreement before the draft, or even if its legal. I'm sure the Capt. will let me know.

Having said all that, I'm not a big fan of giving away our cap space for upcoming years by taking on Jaric's salary.

Love that movie Das Boot.

Anyway, as for the trade, why would Memphis relinquish both its #2 pick and Rudy Gay in the same deal? That's a super high draft pick plus a young guy who's currently producing who has star potential...you can't get them both in the same deal. Unless it's getting LeBron James or some other superstar, that is--I know Memphis has a recent history of getting gipped in deals badly, but I don't think they're desperate enough to sack Gay just for the sake of letting Mayo play PG. For some reason, DraftExpress reported that the Clippers may trade their #1 pick for Memphis's #2 and possibly Rudy Gay, but Memphis could use a PF and Griffin is a sure-fire star (at least offensively), so at least that has more traction. Still, I don't even understand why Gay needs to be sacked in the first place--they're developing young talent and sacking young talent to rehash/develop another young piece sounds almost like circular logic.

I seldom see complicated trades happening in draft day. So, I would suggest a simple one.

Memphis drafts Rubio at #2.
Sac drafts Hill at #4.

Memphis needs a PF.
Sac needs a PG.

Trade:
Nocioni/Hill (Sac) for Rubio/Jaric (Mem)

For Memphis:
They get a young PF who is a much better improvement over undersized Warrick(who may go for FA) and Arthur.
They also get Nocioni who can solidly contribute on the SF/PF positions.

For Sacramento:
We get a young starting PG that has star written all over him. This is good marketing wise and should bring back more crowds to the game. And we also get Jaric who not only could play all the back court position but also comes with the Adriana Lima package. During old times we used to have Tyra Banks and we just kept winning. Maybe all we need is another supermodel sitting courtside in every home game.

To patch the SF spot, we should also draft Casspi at #23. Then either a PF/C at #31, maybe Heytvelt.

Lineup will be:

PG - Rubio/Udrih/Jaric
SG - Martin/Garcia/McCants
SF - Greene/Casspi/Garcia
PF - Thompson/Heytvelt/Diogu/Thomas (tradeable big expiring)
C - Hawes/Heytvelt/Thompson

And condsidering we will be under the cap this season plus K9's expiring, we can still get a quality player or 2 to this roster.
