And It Begins....Pelicans About to Talk to Tyreke Evans

I don't know if Evans will take NOLA too seriously despite the money. Considering the amount of teams after him, he could easily get into a better situation with close to the amount of money they are likely to offer him.

Well, that 4/32 talk would be asinine right now.

I don't know how much you offer tonight, or if you see what he's looking for and come back with a response. I mean, if we truly value a Reke/MLM backcourt going forward and if PDA thinks that backcourt will have some serious success and is a huge part of our foundation, and if it's true 17 teams have interest and one is showing up tonight with a big offer, I think our first proposal needs to be around 4/50 and that has to be flexible.

This level interest doesn't infer he'll sign for a DeRozan type contract, 4/40 or something around there. I know some will say we shouldn't value him to that extent, but it's becoming quite clear the rest of the league appears to value his talent more than many Kings fans have.

As @ESPNSteinLine reported, Pelicans will meet with Tyreke Evans late tonight. Told they will have an offer sheet in hand--a big one.

They are at $52 mil now. They can waive Robin Lopez and other players to get to $44.5 with 7 players under contract. That leaves about about $12.4 mil.

One question, if we match an offer, say San Antonio offers him 4/44 and we match that, does he still get to choose SA or us or does he have to sign with us unless someone ups the ante?

You don't offer. You let him sign an offer sheet at this point or let him come and ask for a sign and trade.

Jason Jones:

Some close to Evans believe drafting Ben McLemore is a sign new regime doesn't want to keep Reke, especially as a SG.

That wouldn't be a shocker given many of us are having the same questions. And given Carmichael Dave -- who BTW thank you for helping save the team, now kindly shut up until free agency is over -- and his tweets, that's not helping. On the other hand either Jones or Reke's people must not read his won paper, as Pete D was pretty clear about wanting Reke back in that Ailene article.

We match and he's back, simple as that. Only question is would he want to come back at that point, will he be unhappy and do we really want to have a pissed off player returning on our hands.

But we get the final say no matter what.

No, that's the matching power. Once he signs, we have the 100% right to match and claim him, and nobody, including the team that tried to sign him, can bump the number even higher.

this is just positioning, as far as the pelicans are concerned, why would he go there? they have holiday, gordan, rivers, and vasquez...im nt too worried about the pelicans....im more worried about the "big" number

I don't think anyone denies Tyreke's value, but how many of those 17 teams interested are pitching to use him as the type of player he wants to be(ball dominant, high usage), over what most are thinking to use him as( me as well) as a defensive stopper/transition finisher/spot shooter(has improved drastically)/slasher(physical body is hard to stop). Basically if Tyreke accepted a Andre Igoudala role and focused solely on that, sign him ASAP.

Alright knowing that relieves me a bit. Still hope Tyreke wants to stay here and when (if) he meets with the kings we can show some enthusiasm and show him we have him as part of the plan for big things here, and he can be key to that.

Or they see Reke as a SF... MT @Nate Jones: So if story of Pelicans chasing Tyreke is true, does that mean they are set on moving Gordon.

Kings have to be careful. Bad teams stay bad with horrible decisions in free agency.

I can't stand Jason jones. What is he criticizing? The FO is doing exactly what it should.

NO has Jrue, Vasquez, Gordon, and Rivers. You can talk about the Kings muddying things with McLemore, but NO would have to fire-sell Vasquez and Gordon AND relegate Rivers to permanent 6th man combo guard duties to free up a spot for Evans

As most of us expected, Tyreke is not going to come cheap. People trying to slot him based on statistical production and what guys with similar numbers signed for are missing that teams around the league know that Evans has been horribly mismanaged by a terrible organization and that he has as much or more upside than anyone else in this weak free agent class. Very similar to Nic Batum's free agency.

And like Batum I think the Kings will be faced with a contract offer that is significantly overpaying Tyreke. Will they let him go elsewhere or hold their nose and swallow an over the top deal. My guess is that PDA will NOT match at all costs. We'll see.

i hope they try to sell him on being their SF-good luck with that...he can stay here in sac(where he just bought a new house) and now play the 1 and get paid..hes not leaving..this all just positioning.

"I love shooters and guys who attack the rim," D'Alessandro said. "McLemore and Evans seems to make a lot of sense."

While NO will make big offer tonight, sources close to SAC Tyreke Evans say he will do his due diligence with long list & Kings still in mix
