No, it's not OK.

I've seen pictures of Dirk drunk and I honestly don't know if the media in Dallas reported that much like the Bee did with these pictures. It wasn't too long ago Artest had his picture taken with some unknown woman that was not his wife on his lap while at a nightclub. I don't think the Bee ever mentioned that.

Believe me that I understand we all have the right to do what we want in our private lives, but you must also be careful not to do anything that could hurt your place of employment and cost you your job, i.e. AK bending over a woman at a party or the Kings dancers bending over slightly with G-strings for a sexy pose.

That's just the way society is (respectful and with class) but it's interesting to read the comments left on the Bee's web site where many of the readers are males and they are loving the pictures.

Here's another example I can give on how much society has changed since I was a kid. I have watched WWE (WWF back then) since the Hulkamania era. There was never any half naked women on their programming and since the Attitude Era there has been and they plugged away at their divas being the Playboy cover girl and continue to do so. My parents would have never allowed me to watch WWF back then if that was going on. I couldn't imagine the Kings dancers doing what they do now to how things were back then. Today it's like it's OK to do so.

even with all this ridiculousness, why do we feel the need to call everything " "gate. Come on people. Media needs to grow up. Dancergate is just a stupid name.

Anywhoo...like I said, I'm looking at THOSE incriminating photos...and you mean to tell me that the ENTIRE dance team can show up, with damn caterers AND damn catered food which looks to be set out on catered platters and tables and tablecloths...AND have bottles of alcohol which are supposedly off limits or otherwise not allowed on company property and nobody notice all this happening? That is RIGHT off the security desk for goodness sakes. Do they get to have the run of the place? Did MSE get lax with their policies and this is the outgrowth of that, or did the dance team really actually cater a party to take place with them in "uniform" WITH company props AND nobody know this went on until the Bee and other media outlets got wind of the pictures? That's not jiving with me at the moment. And if MSE and their lax policies or enforcement of same got out of hand an is causing the embarassment right now, AND these women take the fall for it?

As for the ones taken off company property, it's unfortunate that one of them figured photos of their partying could show up on a MySpace page like THAT wasn't going to come back and bite them in the court of public embarassment. But I really don't care what they do on their own time (which I suspect could be conceivably worse than getting drunk and taking pictures of themselves in that state of doing things I would *hope* they wouldn't do sober or if they thought a half a million people would see them doing). The totality of the pictures of them in their dance "uniforms" is what makes this problematic for MS&E with these.

I hope the front office is so outraged by this that the bikini/daisy dukes video that they had up of the team comes down, and anything showing their midrift comes down along with anything sexually suggestive comes down from their site and their promotional materials. Otherwise I'm going to cry hypocrisy....again....

Excellent points, MBF. And I agree with you.

The Sacramento Kings and Sacramento Monarchs should be about basketball. I come to Arco to see the game of basketball. I would not stop attending games if the dancers quit but I certainly wouldn't bother to drive two hours one way if the dancers were the only attraction.

I guess my initial response, while aimed at the young ladies, should have been more properly aimed at the front office and their questionable standards or lack thereof. Just another example of the Vegas mentality?
 
I don't know.....I can say that they were using bad judgement for taking the pictures, but I really don't think in their minds, that it was going to be taken this far either.

I've seen pictures of other team's dancers, the league in general may have a problem with the code of conduct.

It's also hard imaging the Maloofs(and the managerial pool underneath them) handing out any major punishments(if any at all) if they themselves are known for being "Party boys". The Palms has a Playboy suite(in which rappers have used in their videos), have hosted conventions for the porn industry among other things. Try as you can to say that the Palms is a different business than owning the Kings, but unfprtunately they both fall under the same umbrella.

If they're going to take pictures of a "girls night out" or whatever, I'd suggest a nifty invention that can be as cheap as $1:


A PHOTO ALBUM! If you put a picture on myspace, better believe that someone is going to recognized it(I, myself have run into people who have noticed me just from my picture alone)

Eh... hard for me to get too worked up on this one. Was it a bad idea to let the dancers party on site in unies... yup. Does it really matter not really. There was no drunken orgy, no crime commited, no one hurt so hard to call it much of a scandal. 3G was dead on with her observations on Americans bizar puritan views. Of course I'll add that much of this is a continuation of the very sexisim that created and perpetuates "dancers" and "cheer leaders." Our sexisim leads up to justify sending scantaly clad women out to "entertain" while the men battle (think Salome here) but out paternalisim tells up they should not be "TOO sexy" or behave like adults. Before any one blasts me on this think abou this: Why dosent the WNBA have dance teams (male or female) and how would you feel about some Chipendalesque male dancers entertaing at half time?

I guarantee you if they had taken these photos out of uniform, nobody would even have recognized them as team dancers and we'd have no mention of it in the press.

Personally, though, I don't mind seeing us get some national press. It doesn't matter whether the team presents a "family" image or not. If they want more families to attend, then lower the price of tickets. Nothing brings the fans in like cheap tickets and/or winning on the court.

What you mean the couple of pictures with girls that had alcohol while in uniform? how is that different then when athletes pour and drink alcohol in front of cameras mind you after they win a big match? How is that different?
 
surely one can see this either way.

Being a man - I don't mind a sight of attractive women so I just leave it at that

Then again - I don't have young kids who could ask me an uncomfortable question.
 
Gotta agree with HsdsmCelt that the whole idea of scantily-clad cheerleaders dancing suggestively on the court is sexism at it's best. Other than the liquor, there is little (haha) more in the pics than what is shown on the court at every game.

IMHO, the pics of the Miami Heat dancers for the NBA dance team competition last year (or year before?) were less tasteful than these pics. Actually, I thought the Heat pics were pretty raunchy. And those were on NBA.com for everyone to see and representing the NBA.

The real problem here is someone was stupid enough to put them on the web.
