I didn't get letting Jamar go either.

I also hoped they keep Jenn Korbee around, but I have bias towards anyone who has been on HI-5 (thanks to my kids :) )

Yeah, there had been a lot of bellyaching about her because she's already had a record deal (and, according to the article you linked, she's done a ton of other stuff already). Good decision.

I don't understand why Tatiana made it, but the girl Simon said 'wouldn't have one anyway' didn't. Tatiana is NOT a good singer, is extremely annoying, and she's not going to win either. At least the other girl is bearable and doesn't pee off everyone she's ever around.

And Norman/Nick shouldn't have made it. The guy is a Youtube gimmick, at best. Jamar Rodgers should have replaced him.

Tatiana made it because they are clearly allowing Vote for the Worst to have a few early favorites.

I do think Jamar deserved in, but I like Norman. They could have cut a number of other people that will go nowhere to let Jamar in. Including his friend who only sings songs about his dead wife.

I like the friend, but Jamar is better. Norman? No.

And I just don't get what it was about Tatiana that even allowed her to get a ticket in the first place. This is before she was annoying. She's not a good singer.

Ugh.

Hey, that's a little unfair statement. Maybe he's still having a hard time dealing with it and singing is helping him heal. I think he's a good singer.
I would have chalked it up to the lame producers beating a dead horse if the songs he selected didn't all have dead people running through their themes, giving me the impression that he's driving the story himself. Fact is that just to get into the judges chambers you have to find a way to sell yourself as different from the rest, he went with the dead wife angle and he's going to milk it for all its worth. More power to him, it is a contest afterall. Eventually it will get stale and he'll be unceremoniously voted off.

Because Norman's funny, and he is going to drive ratings and infuriate people to no end when he survives at the expense of more commercially viable contestants.

Tatiana is crazy, she clearly was crazy from day one and that's why they put her through, again she makes good tv, and because of Vote for the Worst she'll last a while and infuriate people who will call more often for their favorite.

Its Season 8, c'mon you've seen this before. Just perhaps not so blatant. They tried bringing it a bunch of semi-pro ringers last year and that didn't work out so well, now they're going for cheap gags. Its also why they allowed 36 instead of 24. At least two dozen are generic never going to make it in a million years bodies to drag this out an extra month. How many of those bottom contestants do you really wind up missing by the time they get to 5 or 6?

Just like you said, c'mon you seen this before. 2 crazy people selling themselves and then you have a sad story of someone who lost his wife. Have you ever lost anyone? Its not easy. I've lost 2 people in my life and one being my first husband. Its not easy. Although I wouldn't be singing about dead people, as you call it, but each individual is different in dealing with things. Call it what you want, however, its not going to get stale. People like Norman or Nick or whoever the hell he calls himself or Tatiana, that in itself will get old, its already getting old and its not far into the season yet.

All I was saying is that since Jamar and Danny were joined at the hip for the entire audition process, if one had to get through Jamar is my vote. People will talk about Norman and Tatiana in future seasons, even if its just about how awful they were. Danny and his sob story will be long forgotten by then.

Yes, I'm heartless/cruel/mean whatever, but I call them like I see them. He can sing, but he's nothing special without the story.

That was SUCH a dumb move. Jamar was current, hip, with the PERFECT target market. I don't know if he was the best singer, but he was one of if not the most marketable contestants this season. He would have fit into that type of Chris Brown audience.

Dumb move. But then again, Simon also told Daughty "no" during his audition. Then Daughtry went on to have the best selling album of 2007. Hmm...

See, I totally disagree. The first time my mom and I heard Danny sing we were thinking top 5 for sure. I don't know there is something about him, and from what I have seen Danny has not been singing songs just about his dead wife. I hate that they put in people like Tatiana and Norman who should have never been put through to hollywood yet kick out good talent like Jamar. Tatiana and Norman didn't even have to fight for their spot by having a sing off- there was talent WAY better then them that had to.

I think you guys/gals are wrong about Norman he can sing. I know people do not like his alternate persona but he can sing better then half of the contestants.

I agree, he can sing. He won't make it to the top 10, but he does have a nice voice that is in the shadow of his ridiculous character.

I agree he can sing, but not pop music, and his voice isn't why he's there. I don't mind, he'll keep me watching if my wife let's me off the PVR hook mid season.

If last night was any indication of what this season is going to be, I can guarantee you, this will be my last season watching my favorite show:mad:. For the most part, the performers were mediocre at best. I too thought that Danny Gokey was the very best without question. All he had to do was open his mouth for 10 seconds and he was better than every body else.

I am starting to believe that the judges are responsible for this montrosity. There are clearly some singers who were eliminated in Hollywood that were worthy of a spot. One of those cats was in the audience last night, Danny's Best Friend (I forgot his name). I hope they reconsider him as a Wild Card.

Danny and Alexis were the best to me. I also thought Braddy sang really well. Simon is right, though. He needs to show more confidence and personality, but I think his voice is really very good.

Norman can definitely sing and I actually think he has a very quick wit.

I know that I am jumping in late to this conversation, but just to add my 2 cents....

I think that Danny was so amazing last night and I think he will be in the top 5 on this show. There are certain people that can sing anything and make it look effortless, and he is one of those people.

I am very disappointed that they voted off his friend in Hollywood. The next day at my work, that was all that everyone talked about. That, and "I can't believe they put through the crazy girl." Everyone seems to have the same opinion of her.

Hopefully tonight will be better than last night. There were some pretty brutal performances and you wonder what the judges saw in some of them. I'm looking forward to when Lil Rounds performs.

The last guy, Tatiana, and the blond chick (or the first chick to sing last night) will be the three that are through from that group.

I'm afraid Tatiana will go far and gyp out someone more talented, because all the idol haters that vote for the worst will keep voting for her.

My Prediction for Tonight:
Male - Danny Gokey
Female - Tatiana del Toro (Vote for the Worst Recipient)
Wild Card - Anoop Desai

None of them blew me away, but this is what I feel it will come down too:(.

Aside from Alexis, Tatiana was the second best female of the night, so if she were to go through it wouldn't be right to entirely blame vote for the worst. Last night may have been the worst night I have ever seen on this show. Lots of early favorites just stunk up the joint.

Those were my picks, too, SLAB. I do not think Michael should have gone into the top 12 and I'm really afraid Tatiana might just be the third one through. If I understand the format, though, isn't there still a chance Anoop might get the wildcard spot, especially since he only lost to Michael by 20,000 votes?

And the final pairing has Tatiana v. Danny? Oh, the suspense...

:p

I was mad about Micheal.
Hes just had the buildup and the vids so people would vote for him.

And I assume Anoop is back for the Wild Card.
Im not sure of the rules of the last week though.

Here's the moment of truth.
