Adelman to part ways with Houston Rockets next season

Sorry I don't have a link but I just saw this on TNT while watching the Bulls/Pacers game. I know you guys have been talking about him as a possible replacement for Westphaul. Even though I like Westphaul and what he has done at the end of the year, I think this is a good chance for the Kings to get a good coach. What do you guys think?

I would love to get Adelman, but I'm not really optimistic about it. He's going to have too many options. Almost none of the contenders' coaches are a sure thing to continue next year, which means the Kings will have fierce competition for his services if they indeed decide to pursue him. The Lakers will be looking for a new coach to take over the post-Phil era, there's a pretty good chance Doc is leaving Boston to spend time with his family, Miami might give Spo the boot, especially if they get knocked off in the second round, and even SVG is not guaranteed to keep his job next season. I don't really see him choosing the Kings over the other available options.

Grant tweets that firing adleman wasnt the worst decision by the kings because Rick did it to himself by ignoring the Maloofs. I like Grant, but this is getting ridiculous how he keeps sucking up to those to schmucks. Maloofs can do no wrong to anyone right??? adleman>>>>maloofs all day every day

Adelman would be a great upgrade over Westphal and we'd be lucky to have him, but one thing I worry about is his shaky track record with developing young players; especially at his last two stops. His player-friendly style seems to suit more autonomous and experienced players rather than the kids that the Kings are rolling out currently. As I've said before, guys like Tyreke and Cousins and even Donte and Omri need patient guidance at this stage of their careers. Would Adelman be able to provide that? Who's out there who would, if not Adelman? Please, no one say Larry Brown.

Adelman did something that made Mama Maloof blow her top.

Adelman won't return to the Kings as long as Maloofs are owners. No way would they admit they made a mistake. And plus, they went behind his back to inquire about Phil Jackson.

I admit, I tend to suck up to the ones who sign my checks too.

Adelman was smart to ignore them. Petrie should have ignored them as well. Look what happened to the team when the Maloofs became directly involved in player and team personnel.

Adelman will never return to Sacramento. Period. As much as I would like it. Dream if you wish but there are bad feelings on both sides.

The idea of him going to Lakers sounds fine to me. I want him to have all good things and as the Lakers wind down because of old age, he still may get a ring and pad his won/lost record. I like the guy. I wish him well. I don't care where he goes.

What is Houston thinking? The fact that he seems to have no social skills must be working agaist him. I always admired his approach. Especially I liked that he seldom dwelled on what just happened in a game other to say, "I think we need some tweaking here or there and I have some ideas. We just need practice time." To the team, that is a great message. He always sees a way to improve. With the Kings, that may have been that he always saw a way to use the special skills his players had.

We need someone like that here. Sigh! I suspect he would find ways of using Tyreke that would satisfy the critics.

we would have a way better season next year with rick on the sideline coaching all the talent we have. i can't say the same for westphal after the shaky line ups

rick adelman is top 10 on the all-time win list. he will also go down as one of the most underappreciated head coaches in recent memory...

apparently there were disagreements between the owner of the rockets and adelman. whatever those disagreements may have been, the owner is clearly putting personal grievance ahead of the good of the team. its his team, so its also his right to do so, but its shortsighted beyond belief. whoever coaches the rockets next season won't be half the coach that adelman is...

the funny thing is that, while it was an asinine move to let adelman go, some other team out there is salivating at the opportunity to scoop him up, given what he squeezed out of such an injury-plagued, patchwork rockets team this last season. he's always managed to maximize his players' talents. if you don't play well for rick adelman, you just aren't that good. and if you do play well for rick adelman, you might not be as good when he's gone...

You are being a tad bit extreme. I would definitely agree it is highly unlikely, but it is not impossible if we do end up getting Burkle. The city has changed and I am 100% sure the city would be extremely receptive once he gets some wins. I really don't think Rick has much distaste for Sacramento besides the Maloofs. It really doesn't matter though unless we do end up with a new owner, which also seems pretty unlikely. To say it will not happen for sure, though, unless you have some information that no one else has is fairly outrageous.

Just cannot agree with this. I can certainly agree that Adelman won't return if Maloofs are the owners because there is just too much history there.

However, Adelman never had a problem with the rest of the crew. Him and Petrie worked really well together. The fans "turned" on him when the team went **** but I am willing to bet that after the failures that were Musselman, Theus, Natt and now Westphal, they appreciate a hell of a lot more what Adelman is all about. Fans are a fickle lot with a "what have you done for me lately" mentality. The team starts winning next year with Adelman as the coach, they would want a gold statue of the man in front of the Arena.

Provided that the ownership changes (unlikely but fingers crossed) I could see why Sacramento would be a real draw for Adelman. He has history here and even when he came back with the Houston Rockets he got a massive standing ovation that MSE made sure was cut out of the broadcast (low dog act mind you). So there is a bit of a love affair here. Dear memories and probably the most fond time of his career.

He would get back and pair with a GM that he has known all his professional life and someone that he works very well with. He would have a young team with talent that could be great for years to come. He would have players that he can get the most out of. I would love to see what he would get out of the likes of Tyreke, Cousins and Thornton. He would have interior defender in Dalembert and some really sizeable front court rotation. He would probably suggest we bring Battier for veteran leadership and defence and I am sure the dude would love to re-unite with Adelman....He just gave him a huge props when Adelman parted ways with the Rockets.

There is so many reasons why this could happen and one (albeit a major one at this stage) on why it won't!
