How nice would it be to have Kevin Durant playing the 3 aside from Martin. Espn.com trade checker has him at $4,484,040 for one more year. What are your thoughts on this guys.

Sure, not an obvious choice, but excellent nonetheless. I think about 15-17 million a year for at least 5 years should land him. I mean look at Rashard Lewis's contract, Durant should eventually be getting paid like him I suppose.

15-17 mil is to much for him at this point. He's proven he can score and thats about it...he's not even that efficient. He needs more time to become the star he is projected to be. If teams wanted to dish out 15-17 mil for a young guy who can score they might as well have picked up Ben Gordon who had the delusion of making that much. When his contract is up I expect him to get sign for 10-12 mil most likely with the Thunder.

Sure, Durant will be at $4.8mil this year.

Then a team option year in '09-'10

Then another team option year in '10-'11.

Then a restricted free agency year in '11-'12 when Oklahoma City WILL match anything and everything, and even if he wants to leave they can pay him a qualifying offer and trade him for a mega package.


This is much like saying Oden = perfect fit at center. Sure. But that doesn't get you anywhere. Kobe would look great at OG playing next to LeBron at SF too. But that's not happening either.

Don't really think that we have a chance of getting Durant, as his team will have the options for a while. However, I am not sold on him being a very good player yet. He scored a lot of points last season, but also took A LOT of shots to do it. It seems to me that Donte Greene has a lot of similar traits, and end up being as good or better than Durant down the road. We will have to wait and see how both players develop.

Would I want Durant? eeeehhhhh.. Do the Kings have a chance? 99.999999999% chance they do not.

Durant didn't really show me much of anything though last year other than he can score as long as he takes most of the shots. He will probably become a fringe all-star player but I am not sure if I would want him once he is established. I saw a ton of this kid in college, and he needs to ball to be effective. He's not the type of player you pair up with another player who is a scorer i.e. Martin. One or the others game will suffer (if not both). The only type of player at this point that you want to team him up with is a PG that handles the ball before giving it to Durant. At least the PG can look for his own shot. With Durant there is a lot of 1 on 1 ball both in college and in the NBA.

I do like his game, but I do not want his selfish play on the Kings right now. I am excited to see what Garcia/Salmons/Greene can do at the SF position anyway. If in 3-5 years if Durant learned to share the ball then maybe, but right now he's a bit too immature of a BBall player to really help the Kings.

Last time I checked he was still on the team and in training camp. He's a rookie, and like all rookies, especially those that have only played one year of college ball, his learning curve is long and high. I think he'll be fine. He has a lot of talent, but still has a lot to learn.

As far as Durant is concerned. Our chances of getting him are slim, considering that the Sonics or Thunder or whatever there called, have made him their poster child. I'm not a big fan of Durant. As others have stated, he's only effective when the ball is in his hands and he takes 20 plus shots a game. I used the word effective loosely there.

I suspect that if you were to give Greene 20 plus shots a game he would be in the running for rookie of the year. Sometimes too much emphasis is placed on scoring stats. One player that would love Durant on the team is Hawes. I understand that their very good friends.

I think you are giving Durant more credit than he is do... He was brought in to be a #1 offensive threat. He was brought in to take 20 shots a game. No matter how bad he was (and believe me he was bad) he was still asked to shoot shoot shoot. Think of it this way.. When Martin has an off night you will see his name in the box score taking like 2-11(FG) 6-7(FT) 0-3(3PT) for 10pts. If he's on he will take 15-18 shots.

With Durant you will have 4-23(FG) 6-8(FT) 1-9(3PT) for 15pts. Or 15-25(FG) when he is on. It does not matter to him. If he were on the Kings and doing this it would screw up the whole tempo the Kings are trying to create. He was the same in college. I just chalked it up to immaturity but he has not shed his ball hog image as of yet, and the OKC coaching staff isn't helping him telling him to shoot all the time.

He'll shoot a higher percentage as he matures, I think he's a willing passer if that is what the coaches want from him, but it's not as of yet. He's never going to be a great playmaker though because of his limited passing/vision, he's a scorer/finisher on the offensive end. 20 ppg and being the man in his rookie season is very impressive to me. I'm thinking a Dirk like offensive game, but with greater versatility on the perimeter, and better defensive tools.

Something certainly seem to 'click' with him in the last couple months of the season. As has been pointed out by others, he had an very good rookie season (possibly excellent considering his age) on a poor sonics team. There's no reason to suspect at this point he won't continue to mature and become a perennial allstar. Will he take the next step to a superstar remains to be seen in my opinion. However, he has done nothing so far to suggest he should not have been the #2 pick last year (and maybe the #1 pick considering Oden's injury problems).

Kevin Durant is going to be good. He just needs to continue to improve and expand his game, but I don’t think he’s what this team needs…If you want a player, let’s talk about Lebron (a bigger guy, with athleticism and muscle tone). But seriously, I don’t think he’s our piece.
