I get people love Keon but for a team that has four or so other shooting guards and that is not close to winning, a late first round pick in a deep draft could be more valuable.
In a vacuum, I'd agree. But, at least in theory, the other three shooting guards should be gone before next season. You want to trade Ellis for a pick that you then have to turn around and burn on another SG?

I would rather keep Keon and move on from most of those other shooting guards

If Lavine, Derozan, and Schroeder all disappeared themselves and our starting lineup next season was:

PG: Unclear

SG: Keon

SF: Keegan

PF: AJ/ Caleb/ Boozer

C: Sabonis / someone else if we get Boozer

That would be cool. But I don't see it. Unless we move DDR and Zach decides some things are more important than money. And Schroeder became two token seconds.

If they moved the others that would be cool
My only question is if we do wind up keeping Keon how much does it cost us to keep him? A big part of the reason he is generating so much interest is he's basically free in cap money for trade purposes at 2 million. If he makes 18m per or more, and isn't giving you a reliable ~24 minutes a night he's suddenly a lot of weight on your cap sheet. Now for us, rebuilding, no big deal and still a fan favorite so I don't mind either way. But the 20th pick in the draft is ~3.6 million for 4 years, so it's not without merit to consider the options (esp if Carter can replace him in the role).

If I were Ellis, the Kings couldn't pay me enough. After being dicked around this season and a good part of last? I would turn down whatever Sacramento offered me and then sign somewhere else for less money out of spite.

Carter offensive rebound, rotation on D, dribble penetrate to create an easy dunk ... Then a miscommunication... Just play him a bit more

I could live with the young guy unit we saw at the end. That looked like potential. The rest of this team is just sucking air.

Interesting point from the Deuce and Mo postgame - Plowden and Stevens played in Austin last night but got shipped out quick to Boston today. Would be useful to have those guys with the team to fill some roster slots if we pull a trade and guys are suddenly unavailable while it processes.

Just saying. That might be the red alert.

That is also cause for concern when it pertains to trading him before the deadline as thanks to Monte's genius he converted his 2-way deal after the NBA trade deadline which puts us in a stupid pickle when it comes to knowing if he's actually going to sign an extension.

This is the best argument I've heard for trading Keon. If the bridge is already truly burned (and it would be for me as well) then get something for him before he's gone for good. It still makes me sad though that it has come to this.

Again, I agree in a vacuum, but this presupposes that the organization doesn't think they can get him back. I'm the kind of petty that, if I were Ellis, I would say all of The Right Things™, pay all of the lip service to wanting to stay, re-signing at the end of the season, all of that. And then, as soon as the trade deadline passed, I'd tell my agent to stop taking Perry's calls.

The other is we are rebuilding and sometimes you have to trade your current good players for rebuilding assets. If we do this right, the Kings will be good by around the time the next Keon contract ends in 3-4 years.

BUT that only makes sense if you actually commit to a youth movement, which we have not done yet.
