4th pick + @ for 'high-level veteran pg'?

Hi.

Sam Amick wrote something interesting in his latest article.

http://www.sacbee.com/kings/story/1975462.html

If the Kings don't trade their first pick – and league sources say they have been searching for a deal that would net a high-level veteran point guard for the fourth pick and other pieces – they will be picking from a group of players who have one thing in common: They're not the perfect fit.

And Petrie's comment on that (via Amick's Twitter)

"You’re always open to listening (to offers), but right now we’re prepared to make the pick."

Well, I've read a lot of rumors, but this one, I mean, trading 4th pick to some veteran players is new to me. And Petrie answered just as Petrie does, but I think it's quite interesting.

Who would be a "high-level veteran point guard" in your mind?

Considering teams' condition, maybe... Nash? Kidd??

If we trade that #4 pick for Steve Nash or JKidd people on this board have my permission to drag Geoff kicking out of that draft "party" and throw him out on the street. It will be good riddance.

But fact of the matter is I think that would be more of a reference to those Rajon Rondo talks that took place. And if not Rondo, it would have to be somebody both young and at that same type of level. Aren't many of those. Even fewer who are available. Rondo, Westbrook, Calderon -- that type of player I would think.

LOL Nash, Kidd.

First, you are reading too much, imo.

Second, I'd say a Rondo or something if that was the case.

Yeah. Maybe too much reading. :) But that's another way for enjoying draft, maybe.

I also thought about Rondo, but he doesn't fit 'veteran', though he's already almost good as veterans. Anyway we'll figure out within ... 16 hours. :D

I guess that depends on your definition of veteran. He has 3 years in the league and championship experience. That makes him a veteran, especially when compared to a rookie. Just a thought.

im sure most of us would be down with trading the 4th for rondo

not exactly... this is his last year.. no way will he resign a contract if it means him being traded away from championship caliber to a rebuilding team..

and you can bet your bottom dollar that even if he is welcomed here with open arms, he gets monster numbers hes going to bolt for the next contender..

i say take a risk with the point guards in the draft, Flynn, rubio, curry, etc... i wouldnt trade with the celtics..

Don't be so sure. Rumors coming out of Boston say that Doc Rivers has called Rondo uncoachable. There are a lot of red flags being raised around the league right now. Is he talented? Yes! But so is Marbury.

As far as veteran pt guard goes. There are several that fall into that catagory. Rafer Alston, Harris, Williams, and if one wanted to stretch you might throw Sessions into the pot. That would be a bit of a stretch though. Then you have Brooks, Blake, Hinrich. The question is, who could you get for the fourth pick that you might want? And who are the other pieces?

I agree with Bricky. This is probably just another offshoot of the Rondo rumor.

Maybe a high level young pg - Westbrook, Conley, Rondo.

As for the rest of the article, the so-called "negatives" on Rubio are weak, weak, weak. So he's 18 years old. Is that supposed to persuade us that they won't pick him because of that? Like there is a HUGE MOTHER CHASM between 18 and 19? Please. And the leadership thing? That it will take him a while to "translate" it into the NBA? Give me a break. Even the shooting "negative" is weak. Even Reynolds has said that he'll improve over time in his shooting. If they come up with negatives, at least come up with something he's substantial, like he's soft, or non-competitive, or he's just not athletic enough. These other criticisms are laughable.

Not a good example when it comes to Rubio.

If Petrie makes the right pick, such as Rubio, I can see him getting a lot of offers from other teams like the Knicks, Boston, and Minnie. I think he has studied those options and has a lot of moves. But not until hes picked.

Petrie should have just picked Rondo over Douby a few years ago.

It's is easy to make the right choice after you have seen the guy play in the leauge for 3 years. Maybe some teams that drafted earlier than 16 (or wherever we picked) are thinking the same thing... That's like saying in 1985 we should have picked Karl Malone!

Hmmm maybe it could be Devin Harris... He was in those rumors before and he could definitely be described as a high level veteran PG.

Yeah, we should have picked Karl Malone! Apparently, we thought some 7 foot white guy with no athletic ability was better.

Just some crazy rumor.... but what do you think about getting Aaron Brooks?

-Houston sends Shane Battier and Aaron Brooks to Sacramento for Beno Udrih at the #4 pick. A third team might have to get involved to make the salaries work. Most people around the league believe that Houston is very happy with their team at the moment, and that McGrady is really the only player they are looking to move.

tj ford is available, that would be cool but not for the #4 pick... rondo would be cool but his expiring contract isan issue. if the celts were down for taking a future 1st round pick instead of this years pick i would love to trade for rondo, harris or ford. the lakers tried to trade farmar to the rockets, hes not a vet but he is better than beno.

If this was true, I would assume its Devin Harris thats being offered.

The Nets have offered him to the Grizz as well and according to DX, there is talks of a 3 team deal:

Grizz gets #5 + #6
Wolves gets Devin Harris
Nets get Rubio at #2 + filler

When I saw this I threw up in my mouth a little.. I would NEVER do this in 10000000 years.

If Kings get next year's pick from Houston. I might do it.
we get to dump Beno's ridiculous salary and get veteran SF and young backup PG.
Beside, this year's draft is really weak IMO.

Than we could trade few players to make better team.
