Weird, so not a sign and trade after all? Or is shams just glossing over that?

edit: never mind. Marc Stein has the details:
Toronto getting Precious is good in the sense that I think he’s a very good prospect but bad in the sense that he plays the same exact position as Siakam, OG, Barnes, and Watanabe unless they’re really sold on him making the permanent move to center despite being undersized at the position.

Are you sure?

Bagley's loot could be off the books but Holmes got a raise. Signed a lot of mini 2 year deals too.
Cap is scheduled to go up. Bagley likely off the books. Hield and Barnes on declining deals (ok Hield likely gone which would dramatically change things for the right deal). TT off the books. From what I recall we have 11 players under contract and none of our core unless something changes with Bagley are due for a raise other than the annual next year. Depending on what we do with our MLE and Bagley and Buddy we should have some money.

TOR and Nurse is smart enough to actually do it if they hold onto Siakam, but a Barnes-OG-Siakam 3-4-5 defense would absolutely tear everybody up. And you have Boucher/Birch to turn to against some of the bigger boy C's that might bully Siakam. But against 95% of the league, that has the potential to be the best defensive front-line in the NBA.

Ham explained it last night on the Kings Pulse pod, but Kings can hold onto Fox/Holmes/Buddy/Barnes/Len/Harkless/Mitchell/Hali and have a near max contract offer available. Math works out with the cap going up like 7 mil and the Buddy/Barnes contract decreases essentially cancelling out the increases that everyone else makes.

That's without signing Bagley of course, but not too bad of a situation to be in. I still hope we make a serious run at one of these young players still available. Should be a real favorable contract and I think all 4 can be apart of the core moving forward.

This sounds like more ham-fisted accounting. The math doesn't work for that group:
Fox - 30.3
Holmes - 10 (low end, but it's probably higher)
Buddy - 21.2
Barnes - 18.4
Len - 4
Harkless - 4.5
Mitchell - 4.8
Hali - 4.2
2023 1st - assume 3
3 roster charges - 2.9

Total: $103.3M
The cap is going to be at $119. So we'd have about $16M in that scenario...not remotely a max contract. We could clear about $2M by trading away our first round pick (we'd get a roster charge of about $1M back), but that's not enough to get into a max contract range, that's enough to get in the $18M range.

How is James Ham so bad at his job?

The only way we open up anything near a max slot next offseason is if Buddy is dealt for an ending contract.

It was under the assumption Buddy was gone.

Yesterday Carmichael Dave tweeted that Monte is being aggressive in trying to get deals done so I'm not quite sure we can shut the door on things yet.
I don't think we can really trust him to a degree. He says a lot of things to keep hope with fans, because he's "relatable". He's "like us" "just a fan" with a radio show

Ennis, but the best targets are basically all the RFA:

Hart
Diallo
Vanderbilt
Markanenn

all I think would/could be an impactful core piece add.
Yup. Also, we still have a trade or two to make. Free agency for as never where i thought we’d be getting all these magical wing players from. They’re all average or below average anyhow

Toronto has some weird fit issues between Barnes, Achiuwa, Siakim, and Anunoby. Guessing we see a Siakim for Moody and Wiseman and a future first.
Not sure that would work given Warriors financial situation.
Warriors are only signing minimum deals (cost moves), just let Pascal and Oubre go (cost moves), and will more than likely not even spend the MLE (cost move). I don't see them doing anything other than cost moves, they cannot take on Siakim salary without sending out equal salary.

Feel like that would only accentuate the issue by adding another wing AND another big man into the glut of big wings they have.

yeah you are correct. Just drove back from the bay so my brain is fogged.

If there are no more moves, then I’m ready to watch Hield and TD playing the 3 along with HB or Harkless. I just want Walton to stagger the lineups where we don’t have multiple bad defenders on the floor…..Bagley and Hield. And I’m assuming Fox and Hali become more consistent on D thanks to DC.
