2009 Kings Playoff Bound???

they have a chance it's just not likely. Almost every guy would have to have career years, along with a rookie of the year and a sophemore center that takes a major step forward. That's not to mention the injuries other teams would have to suffer. I wouldn't bet tomorrows lunch on it.

Ahhh, where are you eating tomorrow?

Before we get all caught up in how mediocre we are and how the grass in the other teams playground looks greener, lets take a realistic look at a team. I've picked the Suns and it was a random choice.

Amare Stoudemire- 26yrs old - averaged 40 minutes a game last year and 25.2 points a game. No doubt a young talent, but one that has already had knee surgery. Some around the league wonder how good he would be without Steve Nash. Still, I would love to have him and he's the future of that team.

This right here is why they are better off than the Kings, the rest doesn't even matter. They've got a young franchise post guy and we don't. He's not a favorite of mine because he doesn't play defense, but he's a lot more valuable than anything we have.

That said, you listed some good reasons why the Suns are not in great shape for the future

Regardless of other teams' status, I say, the Kings chances for a playoff berth this season is depending on how the new faces(Shelden, Thompson, SS, Ewing, and Douby) will contribute to the team. Yup, I include Shelden and Douby here. Here's my opinion:

Shelden: Joined the team by trade deadline. After a complete summer with Theus system, will he be able to finally break out and prove his a solid pick? His got a good banger build and I have seen glimpses of a solid defensive presence with a jumpshot as he gets minutes towards the end of the season.

Quincy: Had his best game(32 pts.) with the Kings' last game of the season. I remember Kevin Martin's performance on the playoff against the Spurs before he eventually blossomed the next season into his status now. Did that last game give Reggie a better idea on how to use Douby better this season?

Jason:
A promising kid, who I hope would not inherit Mikki's hands but would stand to be a steal. His got glimpses of Chris Webber and a banger Lamar Odom. If he grows well into the system, we have now a young long term fix at PF.

Sean: Will he be a solid back-up PG? I hope so. This position really killed us last year. With Beno sitting, suddenly the bringing the ball upcourt just seems a bit harder for the team.

Ewing:Maybe a long shot, more like an insurance for Artest's departure. So live and die with your defense and dunk!

Most analysts still considers the Kings as a solid team last season. We were able to beat almost every great team last season. And even had good games even with alternating injuries to Ron, Kevin, Mike. Hell yeah! Hawes even had his best game against Gasol on a win in L.A. So I don't think our playoff chances is zero! And we have new guys who could add a lot surprising new things. I'm with the minority on this! But I'm cool with it! :D

Why is everyone so down jeez its the off season. Let's see what happens before the season starts before we start throwing are pitty party's :D

One persons pessimism is another persons realism.

One's persons reality is another persons lunacy.

Example: For those who have not read the book, " I'am Legend " , its much different from the movie. At the end of the book, the main charactor realizes that the world has become made up of everything he abhors, but in the eye's of the now present world, he has become the monster. He has become the legend they will tell their children about.

Welcome to TDOS, where rumor and sausage abounds. We have no clue what will happen, although some of us think we do. Until then, every move is a great move or a move in the wrong direction.

On the topic at hand, I do not think this is a playoff-bound team, especially with Artest (others?) being moved for youth and picks (<--example of sausage.) I think, however, that they will be fun to watch, and I am bummed that living on the east coast will limit my opportunities to do so.

I love this poem part as I think it applies directly to Kings situation now:

"But the time has come", the walrus said, "to talk of many things: of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and Kings, and why the sea is boiling hot and whether pigs have wings". (with due respect to Lewis Carroll in 1872). The "sea" is the western conference and the pigs reference could be our boy RonRon......

Is the King wearing his invisible clothes?:p

Now, do Jabberwocky. Hint: Artest is the frumious Bandersnatch. ;)

Here's How I See the West

Based on the rosters today with the best being at the top and worst on bottom. Also teams I think are highly likely to be better than the Kings next year are bolded.

Very good and staying very good for a while:
Lakers, Hornets, Jazz and Spurs

Good and staying good for a while:
Rockets

Good, but headed for a rebuild/revamp in 1-2 years:
Suns and Mavs (but Spurs may be in a 2-3 year group)

Talented, but weird:
Nuggets

In flux with Free Agency:
Clippers and Warriors

Future looks bright:
Portland and Seattle. With Portland further ahead, and with a brighter future.

No-man's Land (Not that bad, but where does the major improvement come from?):
Kings

Crappy:
Minnesota and Memphis

Overall: So there are 10 teams that are highly likely to be better than the Kings, and its pretty likely the Warriors and Clips are better too. They're better than Seattle currently, but Seattle is much more well-built for the future. Even teams like the Suns and Mavs are in better shape because they have assets like Nowitzki, Stoudemire, Nash and Howard that they can either rebuild around or sell off for a huge rebuild package. I'd trade the Kings roster for Memphis' or Minnesota's in a heartbeat, alhtough I wouldn't want their management.

Basically, I think the King's are in bad shape in the present and might have the least promise for the future in the West.

HOWEVER, with the Brand defection from the Clips to the 76er's and Davis defection from Warriors to the Clips, both of them drop a notch.

Spurs I think have had their run as have the Mavs and Suns and would not be surprised that an injury on any one of them could drop one of them out of the playoffs. Portland is a year away from the upper echelon (top 4) but see Hornets, Jazz, Lakers and one of Mavs/Suns/Spurs there this year. Kings now become the bubble team in the west. How the Kings go depends on who they get for RonRon and when.

One team you didn't mention in you rebut was Seattle. I don't think they will be as good as some think they will be. Justin Durant aside, who I think at this moment in time is overrated. The fact that some refer to him as a superstar, shows how little value that title has. They really don't have that good a roster. I like Green, and ten years from now, he may have had a better career than Durant. But other than that they have a long way to go.

I certainly agree with you on the Spurs. They are an old team and their days are numbered. They're still good right now, but not for much longer.
