I just happened to be passing through one of the major draft sites (draftexpress.com) looking for info on a player, and went to check out their 2007 mock draft. It was eye-opening enough I thought I would start a thread about it.

Of the Top 16 players projected in the 2007 draft, 15 play either PF or C. 14 of the 15 of those are 6'9" or taller. Six are 7'0" or taller.

The Top 16 projected list includes:
C - 7'1" 280lb Aaron Gray
C - 7'0" 250lb Greg Oden
C - 7'0" 240lb Spenser Hawes
C - 7'0" 230lb Yi Jianlian
C - 6'10" 230lb Sean Williams
PF/C - 7'0" 245lb Tiago Splitter
PF/C - 7'0" 215lb Jason Smith
PF/C - 6'11" 245lb Josh McRoberts
PF/C - 6'11" 227lb Joakim Noah
PF/C - 6'9" 235lb Al Horford
PF - 6'10" 210lb Brandon Wrighrt
PF - 6'9" 230lb Tyler Hansbrough
PF - 6'9" 215lb Darrel Arthur
SF/PF - 6'10" 225lb Kevin Durant
SF/PF - 6'8" 210lb Julian Wright

That list doesn't even include UConn's 7'3" shotblocking monster Hasheem Thabeet, who could come out this year.
 
Even if Oden decides, for whatever reason, NOT to declare this year, that's still some interesting talent sitting there.
 
I'm predicting Tiago Splitter as our draft pick. Best case scenario this season we get pick #20. I think we'll be anywhere between 10-20. Tiago will probably slip some due to his contract status, and I think Petrie will snatch him up. He's really a top 5 talent in just about any draft and I could see him slipping all the way to 15-20 possibly.

I'm sure they're working out contract terms as we speak. :rolleyes: All that's left is actually knowing our draft position, actually knowing if Splitter will come over this year, actually knowing if he's the best player available and actually knowing if he'll be the pick.

But yeah. You can carve it in stone.
 
Forget tiago splitter, I feel we could do better than some 4 draft wonder. Actually I'd like to have 2 or 3 picks, that'd rock.
 
Who the hell put Sean Williams in the top 16? That guy should go no sooner than the second round. Much like Justin Williams in a lot of ways, one of which is I wish they were Kings. :(

There is a realistic possibility that Greg Oden could stay in College for another year. Going against Noah showed he still needs some ( not much) but some more time to develop.

I agree, STKid. Another unathletic big man that cannot jump or block shots particularly well; cannot shoot FT's very well; and is turnover prone, is not what we need. The rebounding is nice, as is his passing ability, but won't be enough, AFAIC.

People made way too much out of that one game, despite the fact that Oden played with one hand and still got a reasonable stat line against (arguably) the best front line in college basketball.

I say he's one and done.

*Those marked with the asterisk are still considered to be questionable for the draft on some sites I looked at. Some had these players in their 2008 mock drafts, not 2007.

The NBA comparisons are tenuous at best, but I thought they'd be helpful for those unfamilar with playing styles. One of the top four here would be really huge for the Kings, but if we could get another pick or two and took fliers on a couple from the middle group we'd be in good shape.

Right now, the Kings are 14 in draft order, with sites projecting Smith or Gray. Now lets say we get the Celtics pick (currently 5) in a deal for Bibby and the Clips pick (currently 10) in a deal for Artest. Those picks would likely improve, while ours would worsen, but in most scenarios we'd probably end up with a pick from each tier here. In any case, a solid frontline to build around.

Actually minor side point -- but I actually have a concern about our coahcing staff (imagine that). If we do get a young stud big men, which of our various video coordinators and should be 4th assistant former NBA point guards is going to take the big kid under his wing and teach him the post game??
