09-10 ticket prices going down!

Two things:

1) first of all -- good move on their part. They need to do something to shake things up and get people to come back, and even just the perception of lowering prices, even if it were not that much, will make people feel better about things.

2) this quote at the end of the article warmed my heart:
"The bottom line is," continued Gavin Maloof, "we've got to get people in the building. We're going to hand-deliver season tickets, make it more personal. We want everyone involved. We're not going to be last (in the standings) forever. We're rebuilding. We should have started that process two years ago, and we realize that now. That's tough on all of us. But we have the draft coming, we'll get a couple new rookies, make some moves. And we'll keep coming up with ideas. We'll get it back."

Finally!! I wish they had just hired me as a consultant years ago rather than having to learn the hard way (and they still can btw..just send me an email at bricklayer06@hotmail if you'd like guys and we'll chat ;) ), but this is one of a number of signs that they are learning, and so should all of us. There is a life cycle in the NBA, a way things have to be done. When you watch the league for long enough you come to understand it. It looks like the Maloofs have finally reached that stage, and going forward, if Sacramento can keep the team, that can only be a good thing for the long term. Now its up to the fans who have not wanted to acknowledge that to learn as well -- if the owners have gotten it, if they are going to do what needs to be done here, they are going to need the support of a fanbase who understands what the owners have come to understand and will support their moves for a better future.

So, let's review what's happened this year:

1. We're retiring the numbers of Chris Webber and Vlade Divac - something we here at KF have long advocated.

2. Brad Miller, John Salmons, Quincy Douby, Shelden Williams and Mikki Moore are no longer wearing Kings uniforms - something we here at KF have wanted the whole season.

3. The Kings are doing a good job of playing with energy but losing - something most of us here at KF now accept as inevitable and good.

4. The Kings are looking at a top lottery pick in this year's draft - something most of us here at KF are looking forward to with at least interest if not out and out glee.

5. The NBA and Cal Expo have come to an agreement about going forward with a proposal for an arena that doesn't involve public financing - something we here at KF (along with most Kings fans and Sacramento residents who understand the long-term benefits of such a state-of-the-art facility) have been waiting for a very long time and openly advocating.

6. The Maloofs have announced a reduction in ticket prices for the coming year - something our dear Bricklayer (and any number of other loyal KF members, BTW) have been vocal about.

So, to piggyback off Brickie's comments above, I think the Maloofs could have saved themselves a lot of trouble simply by paying more attention to the loyal Kings fans here at Kingsfans.com!

;)

And now, as Brick said, it's up to us to stand up and applaud, to recognize that they get it and to do our part in the bargain. It's a good time - once again - to be a Kings fan and I'm already thinking of ways to attend more games next year in support.

GO KINGS!!

"We shoud have started that process 2 years ago, and we realize that now."

Hot damn! Ive been hitting my head against the wall on this issue. I could never understand what the maloofs were thinking. Now they realize it and are doing something about it. YIPEEEE!

What is that I see? Could it be light? By god I think there may be light at the end of this Kings tunnel!!

Wow. Doing the right thing AND admitting their mistakes as well. Nicely done Maloofs. Like Brick and VF said, a lot of things have gone right this season with this franchise. A lot of things. Not on the court obviously, but longer term organizational things. And that's very encouraging for the future. Now if they could somehow bring back the black uni's next season as well, I might just have to drive up to Arco and go to some games to show my support. :)

Admitting is the first step to fixing a problem.

Also, whoo hoo!

Now I can sit in some of the lower seats without walking up those darn upper level stairs. I don't know why but they always get me paranoid when I walk upwards. I'm so weird. :p

One of the worse problems with Maloof's (besides often thinking they are as smart as our GM) is failure to anticipate and immediately address rising problems. Although Joe and Gavin said they wanted to be "out in the local community," connecting with real fans it never happens. Now, they've indicated willingness to "hand deliver" tix to some season ticket holders. Of course, they already have an annual bash for "those loyal fans." Obviously, If they would have looked in once or twice here at KingsFans.com in the past year or so or had someone from their "astute" PR department on the job maybe they could have saved themselves a bunch of grief.

I largely agree with points made by VF21 but it's a cautionary tale since so much hangs on a strong economic recovery - not projected until 2010 or beyond. Plus, there's possibility of a player lock-out in two years if a new NBA collective bargaining agreement is not in place - oh, great:eek:

Sorry, PurpleHaze but I'm going to enjoy these positives. And I'm going to accept the Maloofs at their word. I've always believed in their passion for the team and for Sacramento and that hasn't changed. I do think they listened to bad advice, and more than once didn't listen when they should have. but that's in the past.

It's not about the past, though. It's about the present and the future. And, in this situation, they're reaching out to the community to help them get the result we all pretty much want. The economy is affecting all of us, so it's not something new. As far as the player lockout goes, if they actually think they'd have fan support or anything else in the midst of a recession, they're flat out nuts. We can worry about that - along with the rest of the NBA - if and when it comes to pass. Right now, I think players are more worried about free agency and whether or not they'll be getting anything close to what some players have received in the past, CBA not withstanding...

Don't rain on the parade quite yet, dude.

;)

Glad to hear this.

I watched the Kings lose to the Knicks at Arco a couple of months ago. They were dominated by the Knicks but it was still a good game. But I have to think twice before spending $100+ on a night out now (tix + parking + food+ sitter).

The Maloofs are sitting on such huge fixed costs, they might as well lower the prices and fill more seats. They can jack them up again when the product gets more competitive.
