Note to the GIANT palmetto bug I saw walking around on the sidewalk about a block away from the new place a few hours ago:
You and your brethren have free reign outside. I understand that. I knew that large, winged, creepy crawlies were to become a part of my life when moving to this climate. I'm not thrilled about that fact, but I can live with it. If you, or anyone that even slightly resembles you, gets the funny idea in your head that you're going to actually come inside my apartment, however... consider this fair warning that I have copious amounts of Raid at the ready and I am not at all afraid to use it.

I know to do that the next time should something like this occur. I had ice, but not enough to save it for 24 hours. I'm rather pissed that this happened, because no one had a clue as to how to fix it until 7pm. The utility company comes, says hey, not our problem and leaves. No one really wanted to explain to the tenants of all 9 buildings what was happening. (This is all along one street) There are elderly people who need oxygen, have heart monitors, and we were basically left for ourselves.

It wasn't the utility company's fault about the situation. They could have at least told the people who still had power that they were shutting everything down (which people would have understood as to not have a building catch on fire due to a faulty fuse box). The problem lies more to the housing authority which owns the buildings. Just looked like there was no effort on their behalf to even form a emergency plan for those who really needed help. A bull horn or something.
