Reke for Wade

#31
At this point in time, with this team, I'd have to say that keeping Tyreke makes the most sense.
He's on his rookie contract so you can spend a lot more money to bring in another superstar to pair up with him.
He's eight years younger, so obviously you'll be able to have him at a superstar level for far longer than Wade.

Now, if I was building a team to compete for a championship for this year only, I'd go with Wade as he's the more polished player, and he's won that ring before. But since I'm looking 2-5 years down the line, Tyreke is my guy hands down.

We found a soon-to-be Superstar in Evans. The kid seems to be happy and exerting his utmost effort to fulfill his role in this very young team. We need to keep him happy by not entertaining trade ideas involving him.

Shocking as it is to say, I would not do that trade.

I have gradually upped the level of my hints, but its kind of pointless anymore -- Tyreke Evans not only WILL be a superstar, he's actually playing like one for us right now. And every game he looks a little more aggressive, a little surer. When we run into these Derons, Wades, CP3s there jsut isn't a huge gape there. And he's 8 years younger than Wade. This should be our guy around here for the next dozen years. So amazingly...no.
Brick--I gotta say-- I love it when I agree with you on these kinds of things. Your words carry weight because your judgement is clear. Shocking as it is that I also find myself rejecting this trade, even more shocking that a guy like you is doing so, and attaching such a statement to your decision. Tyreke, Tyreke, Tyreke.

I concur...

I agree with you - I wouldn't do that trade at this point straight up. I mean, if the just showed glimpses of this of course it'd be a different story, but this kid has been playing at an all-star level since Martin got hurt against good competition, keeping an otherwise untalented team in close games on the road on a consistent basis. And he's only a 20 year-old rookie...that's the kicker.

Um - did anyone else almost have a heart attack when he went down in the second quarter last night?

My question now is Who WOULD you trade Tyreke for? In my mind there are only 3 people I'd trade without question...

Lebron
Howard
CP3

And only a few people I'd consider...

Durant
Anthony

Not that Tyreke will be as good or better than any of the above. But his potential currently has no limits. If the kid adds a better jumper (which has already improved considerably) and finishes better at the rim he WILL be a super star!

Yep! Watching him pull his jersey over his face had me very afraid for some time.
The thing that comforted me was that by the way he was moving, it was clearly neither a leg nor an arm injury. So I figured wind knocked out in the best case, broken rib at the worst.

Tyreke is like Inspector freaking Gadget. Go go gadget arms! Go go gadget steal! Go go gadget layup! Go go gadget drive-and-kick! I love Wade, absolutely LOVE Wade. But there is no way, in any state of sobriety or drunken stupor, that I would make this trade.

Personally, I might even knock Paul and Melo off that list. Scary indeed. It's unnerving being this excited.

Wade is an absolute baller but I still wouldn't do this trade. Tyreke is a
23 7 7 2 guy with ice in his veins. Give him one more consistent scorer and 2 defensive stoppers... look out.

evans for wade, obviously i would take that.. but with our roster we still wouldnt win many if any playoff games if we made it. what would we do with martin? with wade on the team i would be all for trading for okafor.... that would be awesome. but since this would take more than one trade to make this work....

we would have to make a move for a big first.. if not we might as well keep evans and see what happens. wade as a rookie was 22, his numbers werent insane but he did lead his team to the playoffs with odom and butler as his 2nd and 3rd best players.... wade iws no more of a pg than evans, probably less now... he is in full sg mode. only passes when he is doubled, which is all of the time but it doesnt make him a pg. so pairing him with martin wouldnt be the best idea for 82 games of professional basketball. unless we have much better big men.
You seem to be alone on that island.....nothing much changes around here though so I expected that.

No. Tyreke is a point guard. Wade isn't. I'd rather ride the Tyreke wave for the next decade.
I don't think Reke is a traditional point guard - he's a point guard like Lebron is a point guard - the kid needs the ball in his hands to make plays but he isn't a natural distributor.

It would be ideal to surround him with shooters so when he got doubled opposing teams would get murdered - a la Bibby and Peja circa 2004.

That's one reason why I think Nocioni actually fits this team well - he may not rebound well but he can shoot and that's a treasured quality with a playmaker/finisher like Reke.

If Tyreke works on his outside shot the entire offseason and comes back next year able to score from the outside as well as the inside, we will have a superstar on our hands. The kid is almost unguardable right now. Most teams are zoning and collapsing the middle to keep him out of the paint. Once he can consistantly hit the outside shot, he's then totally unguardable.

Its only been 20 games, but can anyone name me one point guard or SG thats been able to guard Evans one on one? The Warriors had Jackson, a SF trying to guard him at the end of the game.

Closest remains Salmons, but I will be interested to see how that matchup goes next time.

I also think Kevin was doing a heckuva job of it those first 5 games. :p

Just to expand, once I got done chuckling I started thinking about what kind of ego issues might Kevin be going through now, watching Tyreke lead the team back to respectability while Kevin collects butt-splinters from sitting on the pine. He can't really imagine that he is going to step right back in and take the ball out of Reke's hands.....at least, I HOPE he is not that stupid. Anyway, I guess thats why we had that whole "Will Kevin Buy In" thread....

Well, not too fast my friend. I know some other people who will trade Evans in a heartbeat even if Evans beats Lebron's rookie numbers. Evans is not a point guard and will never be better than the cute nameless boy who got drafted at #5. That is the bottom line.:D

Lmao, and if this table had wings I could fly it to Spain and bring that little hobbit back with me....

K-Mart - "I'll get back out there and everybody has got to keep playing their same game," he said. "I'm not a guy who gets the ball and dribbles a lot. I'm not a dominant player with the ball. I get my points in the flow, so there shouldn't really be any change."

I so hope he is being legit.

So let me ask you a question: how many assists per game does he have to get before he becomes "a natural distributor"? 10? 9? 8? 7? Just what exactly is the cutoff? I'd really like to know.
