I watched I Love You Man Monday night. I thought it was fairly good. Paul Rudd is still a little raw for a lead actor, and the connection with the fiancee didn't seem genuine, but some of the dialogue was very funny. Andy Samberg's character was hilarious. I wouldn't have recommended it when it was in the theatres, but its a good value as a rental.

If you weren't around for the real glory days of Sci-Fi B movies, you've got another chance. I just finished watching Alien Trespass and it's an excellent homage to movies like The Blob and It Came From Outer Space. They've got the swarmy creatures, corny dialogue and everything else right on point. A fun movie to watch!
Underworld III: Rise of the Lycans -- was actually surprised by the quality of this one given its the third in a series that was never that great in the first place, the big star has left the franchise, it was a prequel etc. That's normally direct to video type of stuff there. But it was really a legitimate attempt -- kept the tone, kept the same look (camera filters) and mood. Nothing incredible, but then again nothing in that series has been incredible (besides Kate). But some dodgy CGI aside, it was a solid effort and quite wacthable.
I Love You Man -- saw an ad, it looked moderately funny, took a chance, and...it definitely had its moments. Some very funny scenes. But you kind of felt it should have been funnier still -- kind of uneven in that respect and missed a lot of chances.

The Uninvited: I love a good horror film, but unfortunately, there just aren't that many of them. Despite the poor reviews this one got, I thought it was okay. I think they used the "it's just a dream" plot device way too much, but I was genuinely interested in the story. Although, it could have just been Arielle Kebbel that kept my attention.
"Paranormal Activity": Im a big fan of horror movies and Im very critical when rating them. This movie is one of the scariest movies ive ever seen. The way its made is brilliant. It scared the pants off of the entire audience in the theatre and everyone i saw it with admitted they had a hard time sleeping that night, one friend had a nightmare. I would rate this as probably the 2nd scariest movie ive ever seen. If you like horror movies then this is a must see. In the words of my buddy while talking to his girlfriend immediately after the movie ended " Its not real. It wasnt real. Its not real."

Commando. I got this as the throw-in in a double pack with Predator and actually wound up watching it first. This movie is notable for 3 things: A pre-pubescent Allyssa Milano who loves her big daddy Arnold, an obscene onscreen bodycount highlighted by one five minute span where Arnold runs around topless with a series of big guns interspersed by slow-mo shots of bodies being riddled with bullets or flying through the air as the result of a grenade explosion and lastly and most importantly for being a flaming hot mess of homoeroticism that puts its contemporaries to shame - if you are in college film class and get to queer theory in 80s action this is your film as it features everything from the aforementioned topless Arnold with his guns to a baddie who wears leather pants with a chainmail vest that looks like something out of Flashdance thanks to the big black leather belt he wears over it, lines like “Silent and smooth — just like always.” after Arnold sneaks up on his commander from behind and a climactic knife battle. Seriously, Rambo has nothing on this.
Unfortunately this movie is quite poor by all other measurable standards, plenty of continuity goofs, over reliance on one-liners, horrible synthesized score, etc. But its a fun 90 minutes regardless.

Never been Kissed - Drew Barrymore = hottie. (Didn't like the pedophile teacher though.)
Followed Brick watching 10 things I hate about you - (darn Dawson's River Kids.) Pretty hilarious.
Also, I just watched one of my favorite movies of all time: Waking Ned Divine - About an old man in Ireland who dies of a heart attack after winning the lottery. His friends come calling after a couple of days and end up conspiring to pose as the lottery winner in order to benefit their town. Freakin' cracks me up every time.

You forgot about the most famous thing of all in Commando -- the bulletproof rosebushes that Arnie uses for cover while 100 guys with uzis spray him from all angles.
Had forgotten that Milano was the daughter, although may have known that once upon a time. Was that the one where he is supposed ot be shot through the shoulder, then hikes her up on that same shoulder at the end? Wouldn't read too much into the goofy villain in his fetish gear -- I think he was legitimately supposed to be a badass, and that that was just an epic fail.

Where the Wild Things Are -- Loved this one. Really, really, loved it. I can see why the reviews have been mixed, can certainly see why the kids sitting in front of my friends and I were bored, but I ultimately think that Spike Jonez did an amazing job of expanding a children's book (totaling less than 350 words) into a full narrative while still keeping its somewhat melancholy and lonely theme. Beautifully paced and allowed to breathe in a way that is uncommon of films today, and especially of children's films.
Just saw it last night. I had trouble sleeping because I thought a demon would show up and do horrible things to me. If you go see this you better be a deep sleeper; if you wake up in the middle of the night you will not be going back to sleep.
This movie gives an overwhelming sense of futility to the viewer. These people in this situation are completely helpless. It also seems feasible, if you lend any credence to reports of real world paranormal events. It's claustrophobic, tense, intelligently directed, and scary as hell. I kind of wish I had not gone to see it.
Edit: this movie is the sort of movie you should watch alone with the lights off in your living room for maximum effect. Theatre crowd noise detracts very much from the mood of the film, as it can be very quiet.

Paranormal Activity.. for a movie that was made on a 15'000 $ budget they did it pretty good and made it very creepy. I'll admit i dont get scared from movies too often but this one just gave me that chill up my spine and had me looking over my shoulder a cuple times lol.

Kinda funny in that technically it is a VERY good movie, however, it didn't really "grab" me, especially early. Nothing "wrong" with it, I was just trying to figure out where it was going and why. And it wasn't necessarily what I thought it was going to be.
I noticed at least one scene in the preview was not in the movie.
A little more graphic than I really was looking for - unnecessarily so. But in looking back, some of it was the thought of what was about to happen, not all of which eventually did (so at times more psychologically "scary" than it really is in retrospect).
For some reason, in certain respects it reminded me of "Cloverfield," but not for the reasons you would think - it took a while to really get going and lots of "handycam" use. Not nearly as bad as in Cloverfield, but the thought of it was in my head during this movie for some reason.
Many things are unexplained, but that does not necessarily mean they were plot holes.....just "unexplained."

How come all the creatures are "stupid" and only one (and his son) are smart enough to actually do what they are trying to do?
How does being infected with alien DNA allow you to run their ship and mechanical walker? Is this like the Matrix where you can download info at will?
What did cause the craft to originally break away and fall to Earth?
Why the heck didn't he tell anyone he was infected? Isn't that kinda like rule #1 when dealing with alien stuff?
What was that stuff they used that can not only power a ship but also change humans to aliens? Drinking petroleum does not turn people into dinosaurs. And what were they getting it from?
Are they making a sequel, because they really left it open for one.....

1) The handycam thing was done the right way, unlike Cloverfield, in which it was more distracting than anything else. In this, you know they're going handheld, and at first, you grumble something like "I hope this doesn't turn into another Cloverfield fiasco," and then you forget about it because it's artful and genuine, and doesn't get in the way.
2) I was expecting a different kind of movie. It wasn't as ... moving ... as I expected it to be. (Certainly wasn't the big budget summer blockbuster in the same vein as Independence Day, and didn't try to be. But they did a great job on the aliens. That's one thing no one will complain about.) I don't know what I expected, but this didn't satisfy that itch. It was a really, really good movie. When I really like a movie, I spend a bunch of time reading about it after I see it, to see what other people liked about it, see if I missed anything, stuff like that. So the fact that I dug two months back in this thread to read other people's opinions says something. But I was expecting an A+, and it was more of an A-. Still, really good movie.
Director Neill Blomkamp already thinking about a sequel
But the filmmaker said that he would be happy to return to the film's universe if it became a box-office smash. "If this film is successful, if audiences want another, whatever, District 10, I would love to do it," Blomkamp said in an exclusive interview this week in Los Angeles. "It's a very personal film, and it's a universe and a place that I find incredibly creative. I'd love to go back to that universe."
