Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Alright, its time to start getting into the hardcore comedy personnel. My leading lady needs a wacky friend, and there is nobody wackier than:

Anna Faris

Specialized comedy personnel, so maybe I could have waited a few rounds with only a couple of serious competitiors for her services, but there is literally nobody who can play the role I have in mind for her the way she can, so best to load up on these irreplaceable pieces while I have the chance.

The Nation proudly presents

Whoopi Goldberg

I have a very very specific role for her as she will be a supporting actress in this one. Her comedic genius is old school, and she will bring some very unique comedy to this RomCom.

Most Notable
The Color Purple
Fatal Beauty
Ghost
Sister Act
Sister Act II
The Long Walk Home
Lion King
Little Rascals
Corrina, Corrina
Eddie
Ghosts of Mississippi
How Stella Got Her Groove Back
Girl, Interrupted
Rat Race
Madea Goes To Jail

In other news from The Nation, they have officially named Reese Witherspoon their Lead Actress for their film. Please stay tuned as more casting moves are made in the future..

I've been struggling to find a picture that I like for my lead actor. I have somewhat the opposite problem that I had with Bacall -- most of his shots are current, and I'd like to cast him in his late 30s. At any rate, here he is, my lead actor: Colm Feore.

All of history's leading men to pick from, and he picks Colm Feore. that ladies and gentlemen is true belief. ;)

Ever see him play Satan or whoever in a Stephen King movie about a storm on an island?

Yeah, but I really think he can nail the part! :D

Nope. I think it was 32 Short Films About Glenn Gould and Titus that really convinced me on him. I wasn't overly fond of his turn on 24 this season, to be honest.

Is that the president's husband? I detested the character... don't remember ever seeing the actor in anything else.

There's one nice thing about being old - I'm pretty certain a couple of my lesser picks will, much like with the Dream Team Draft, leave the youngins scratching their heads trying to figure out who I'm talking about.

:p

Here's the next addition to my cast. With actresses flying off the draft board I needed to secure this one as a vital member of my "team". With my 4th pick, I select:

Lucy Liu
(Petra Arkannian (Chinese)/Sister Carlotta (Spanish))

Pretty, rambunctious, mean, and sweet. She can do it all with flair and enthusiasm :).

Filmography:
Petra Arkanian - While in Salamander Army Petra helps Ender learn how to fight in the battleroom. They remain friends through the rest of the book, even though she is upset when his Dragon Army defeats her Phoenix Army. She is one of his commanders in the battles with the buggers.

More:
Petra is one of the few female students at the Battle School. As something of an outcast herself, she acts as an older sister towards Ender Wiggin and teaches him how to shoot. In fact she may, in the beginning, have identified with Bean because in many ways he was so similar to Ender (small size, amazing genius). In Shadow of the Hegemon, it's mentioned that one of her teachers found her so aggressive that he actually had her genome scanned to make sure she wasn't a boy.

Petra becomes a member of Ender's "jeesh," or informal team and as such she rejoins him in Command School, where she serves as one of his most capable lieutenants during the campaigns against the Buggers. He relies on her so heavily, in fact, that he pushes her too hard and she finally breaks during combat, dozing off from exhaustion and causing a number of casualties. Although she recovers, she loses her aggressive edge and she never quite trusts herself again, believing herself to be weak and unreliable, a judgment that later events prove wrong. It is shown at the end of the book that Petra might have some attraction to Dink Meeker, and vice versa.

While she is Armenian in the novels, Frank Miller re-wrote the character to make her Chinese. He felt this added to the international appeal of the work, and made casting for the part much better for Robert Zemeckis as well :).
Sister Carlotta - a Catholic Nun originally from Catalonia in Spain. Eventually she came to Rotterdam and helped with testing potential kids to Battle School. Because of the many homeless children created by Hegemony population control laws, few of the children even got marginal success on tests, so Carlotta set them up to be sent to a Ground School somewhere on Earth. By 1185 b.s.c her early successes had graduated from college. Eventually she came to find Achilles and Bean, whom were one of the best she had ever tested. Bean came to her telling that Achilles killed Poke, so Sister Carlotta sent Achilles to a Ground School where he would never hurt Bean and sent Bean to Battle School.

Alright, this is a KEY supporting roll. With his #4 pick, Spike chooses...

yeah, this one needs a drumroll...

Clyde the Orangutan

Don't know him? Watch "Any Which Way but Loose."

This is going to be a heck of a crew to pull together. :D

Right turn, Clyde. ;)

...

OK so how exactly do I follow "Clyde the Orangutan"? I just, um ... whatever.

Anyway, for a larger-than-life epic I absolutely need a larger-than-life director. A man whose career spanned 50 years, who once used calligraphy ink to darken raindrops making a storm seem heavier on film and who came to be known simply as Tenno ... or, as you and I would say, Emperor.

Akira Kurosawa

Lest I'm accused of simply picking some of the most celebrated names in filmmaking (along with Coppola) in a blatant "for the votes" move, there are actually very specific reasons I targeted those two men for my production crew.

I wanted a more "old school" approach with a director/screenwriter who would push the the material to its dramatic and darkly artistic boundries without relying so heavily on CGI, which I believe has come to water down and cheapen most modern epics from overuse.

Additionally, with Coppola and Kurosawa on board, I'm essentially announcing with a loud speaker "We're going over budget. Way over budget. In fact, we're not even bothering with a budget. Here's a blank check; I'll see you in bankruptcy court." But that's fine. I'm not trying to build a career; I'm making one movie in a winner take all setting and for that I want my production pair's certifiably insane passion driving the creative process to its limits.

The rest of my core cast is probably safe for a little while, so I will go ahead and select my director, who probably would have also been safe, but what the hell:

Talia Lugacy

I am shocked to be getting my next pick so late in the game, but absolutely thrilled as he's been one of my favorites for many years.

Robert Downey, Jr.
-- is awesome. At everything. Hopefully including staying sober long enough to function on my set.

^^I knew I was pushing my luck hoping he'd last another round but I only wanted him for a small but fitting character role, so I suppose I shouldn't complain. If, however, he starts to disrupt your set, just let me know. I'm sure Forest Dweller Productions could come up with some kind of trade deal ... :)
