what was the last movie you watched?

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Ahem. Just saw "Employee of the Month" (lowbrow comedy/parody of Sam's Club/Costco type stores). My primary reaction? My lord she's stacked. Yes, Jessica Simpson was on hand as the love interest and wearing plenty of low cut blouses to show off her acting skills. Does make it hard to not like her if you're a guy though, no matter how bland a character she plays. Rest of the movie was rather clumsy but still had a few moments, and you could almost squint and see how this topic could be given a funny Office Space treatemnt by better writers with less heavyhandedness.

For whatever reason, Terminator Salvation was MUCH better the second time around for me, and I REALLY liked it the first time.

Valkyrie.

I actually really enjoyed this movie, and I actually thought Cruise did a really good job. I don't know much about history, but this was really an interesting movie. (And I know somebody who knows a lot of history, and this movie was quite accurate to what actually happened).

Just watched the original Terminator for the first time in quite a while. Got it on Blu-Ray and wanted to give it a spin. An oldie but goodie classic flick.

I just watched the deleted scenes as well, and why the heck do they keep chopping this stuff out??? They had a couple quality scenes (amid several throw-away ones) in there that would have somewhat changed the tone of the movie a bit, including an ending I really liked. Very cool.

Ball of Fire (1941)

watched those great movies in my film class
Yes, one of the greatest noir films and one of the best examples of the screwball comedy. Maybe your professor pointed out that structurally there are a lot of similarities in the two genres, even though one is dark and tragic while the other is optimistic and comedic. In both of them, you have an isolated hero who has a dynamic woman come into his life and turn his world upside down, in this case Barbara Stanwyck both times! If you liked Ball of Fire, you should see Bringing Up Baby. Of course, there's a long list of great noirs.

I tried to watch Wall-E with my son yesterday on the big screen. It would have been his first movie but he fell asleep 10 minutes in. Maybe we'll try with something else this week if there are any other HD animated films on the on demand.

I just watched "Across the Universe," a musical that takes a bunch of Beatles songs and mixes them into a movie. It's quite good, if you're a Beatles fan, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes classic rock.

I'm slowly getting to watching all those old good black and white movies, I wasn't born when they were released, as I am only 20 years old.

The Hangover Saw this a few days ago and I loved it. Im a sucker for these kind of funny movies, Ed Helms ( Andy from the Office ) is one of my favorite actors, and he was great in it .. The dude with the beard ( ganifififkikakis ?? ) is a funny guy too .. I plan on seeing this again soon.

Watched The Strangers the other day. God was this stupid. I dug the trailers where Liv asks the Strangers "Why are you doing this to us?" and the reply is "Because you were home"... but I guess I expected there to be something more to the story and there really wasn't.

Been watching a lot of crap while out of action. Things I liked:

Caught Total Recall on SciFi yesterday, probably my favorite Arnold movie (other is the Running Man).

B.I.K.E. - this is a doc about one of the filmmakers' attempts to join a bicycle gang in NYC. I thought it was going to be about tall bike culture, which it was but it was more about the guy Tony desparately trying to fit in to a group while maintining his individuality and struggling with his addictions. Brought back memories of when I lived in Boston and did lots of midnight rides and fun shenanigans, though we did not take it to the levels of these guys. Portland has a pretty similar scene but I'm old and married now. Pretty cool if you're into bike/punk/d-i-y culture and understand that this is not strictly about bikes.

What Would Jesus Buy - Another doc, this one is about Reverend Billy (who was briefly in B.I.K.E. at the beginning, but otherwise these movies are unrelated) who is on a crusade to get Americans to re-think their consumer habits. It follows him and his group from Black Friday to Christmas on a nationwide tour doing their performance art with a message. I thought this was pretty fun though the message is a serious one as well.

The Godfather - I have never seen any of these movies. Even if it weren't a masterpiece I would enjoy it for the period and themes, so whatever. Its about time I saw it.

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Zack and Miri Make A Porno -- well, after 30 minutes of absolutely screechingly unfunny standard Rogen stuff -- i.e. he's incredibly immature and its supposed to be funny that he cusses constantly, even if there are no jokes included -- this thing finally got to the topic promised in its title and tried to make up for the awful start with half an hour of absolutely filthy laughs. With a topic like that you can't really miss if you are willing to go for it, and yes, they were willing to go for it in nearly every foul manner possible. Actually not sure how they kept it an R. Anyway, tasteless, lousy first half hour, no touch whatsoever, but they did milk the laughs out of a topic ripe for it. Just don't watch it with your grandmother.

^*shrug* I thought the movie got weaker as it went on. Rogen's never going to win any awards but you know what you're getting and either like it or you don't.

Haven't seen any films lately worthy of mentioning here, but I have over the last few days been obsessively watching all of "Angel" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" with a friend who, though a Whedon fan, only caught a few stray episodes of either series in their first run.

Aside from the fact that we are now in the whiny Dawn years, good times.

Okay, I have a question - how was The Soloist? I am a really big Robert Downey Jr. fan and I've been waiting for what seems like forever for it to come out. Of course, I have to wait until it comes to DVD to see it...

You should try having a Roswell marathon and a Dawsons(River Kids) Creek marathon . Pretty good times there too :D Seriously! (My wife is responsible for my having an opinion on this).

It was interesting and thought-provoking. However, I have to say there were a lot of unnecessary political undertones. It seemed more like an elaborate way for the L.A. times to advertise than it was a movie for music appreciation. But heck, it's definitely worth a rental. :)

Austrailia - I like the main actors and the scenery is beautiful, but the movie was just too long.
Way too long. I thought it was going to end like 4 times before it actually did.

Yes Man - Wasn't expecting much out of this, but I laughed a lot. Definitely worth checking out. One of Jim Carrey's better movies recently
