"Classic" Ride Draft Thread - DRAFT COMPLETED!

Wow triple post....

Here is my latest idea!

We have to cruise these cars around with absolutely no audience in our apocalyptic future. I do not know about you guys, but for me 1/2 the fun of driving one of these puppies around would be shock value. I propose that for fun only, at the end of the drafting, we each pick a choice from our list that we would most love to pull up to a crowded stop light in pole position. Maybe its just my exhibitionist nature?

So Ordinary That It's Truly Quite Extraordinary

I had no idea that there was ever a Vette Wagon.
They showed three "dream cars" under the Corvette marque in 1954.

The first was a convertible coupe with a removable hard top. That one would actually go in as an option the following year and into full production the year after that.

The second was the Nomad wagon that I picked. Chevrolet saw a lot of potential with it and decided that it would be better suited to be built off of the Bel Air platform as a family car.

The third never made it into production but the name was recycled in the 60s. It was basically a fastback Corvette. I am going to assume all 3 dream cars count as their own models and that it is still up for grabs so I'll stop there.

I'm starting the relish my role as the Wild Card in this draft. So far, I've made Brick hold back on taking a Hot Rod and forced G3 to reshuffle her draft order to take a Woodie

Even if I come in dead last in the playoffs, I'm thinking that alone makes me a winner :)

So, on with the completely random, devoid of rational thought, found this on the Internet just now, pick.

1954 Ford Crestline Sunliner

I'm thinking I can choose to leave the "Woodie" at home and drive this to the beach when I feel like having the top down.

My brief research says the '54 version introduced a host of engineering upgrades to the series and a new engine -- a Y Block Overhead Valve V-8 engine displacing 239.4 cubic inches" which I'm sure all you gear heads will understand.

It also said this was rather popular at the time and was considered the "convertable luxury glamor queen" of that year.

And I even like the color.

2008 - Toyota FT-HS Hybrid (concept)

You get good gas mileage and PERFORMANCE! All for 30k? And I don't know about any of you, but that interior ROCKS!

Boasting a powerful V6 3.5L engine, the FT-HS is coupled with Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive to produce a target power output of approximately 400 horsepower and a projected zero-to-60 acceleration in the four-second range. At a mid-priced market position, the FT-HS would be a true "attainable exotic" with 21st-century performance.

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Ok...this draft has been really skedaddling along, much faster than bozz anticipated I think. And at this point I think we are going to have to skip him. He did give me 4 cars (I've only picked 2), but the other two he just described in general terms, as in an "older blank" or a "classic blank". Think maybe he wanted me to pick thme for him, but I can't really do that. So hopefully those cars will still be there for him when he gets back.

In the meantime, this should skip on to the next person I think.

Do we know when he'll be returning?

EDIT: I guess he'll just have to fill in when he gets back.

Okay, skipping over bozzwell, I'm going to go really classic this time:

1930 Cadillac V-16 LWB Imperial Sedan

Al Capone owned one of these, bullet-proofed of course, and I figure if it was good enough for the czar of Chicago crime, I'd be derelict if I didn't have one to tool around in as czar of ... well, everything! While he had several pretty nifty cars, I picked this one because of the white sidewalls.

The Cadillac V-16 was Cadillac's top-of-the-line car from its January 1930 launch until production ceased in 1940 as the war in Europe killed sales. All were finished to custom order, and the car was built in very small numbers; only 4076 cars were constructed in the eleven years the model was offered. The majority of these were built in the single year of 1930, before the Great Depression really took hold. This was the first V16 powered car to reach production status in the United States.

Jaguar XKR-S

This is a car I want. I hope to have in 5 years that is the goal anyways. I might have to eat Kraft dinner for those 5 years though.

Alright!

1970 Oldsmobile W30 442

Originally 442 meant Four (4) barrel carb, Four (4) on the floor, and Dual (2) exhaust.

If it's good enough for Primus and the Demolition Man, it's good enough for me.

2008 Spyker Zagato

Mad supercar genius Victor Muller introduced the latest from the newly minted F1 constructor Spyker Cars. It's a Zagato-designed rear-drive sportster, powered by VW's 6.0-liter W12 engine, producing 500 hp. Like other of Spyker's vehicles, this one combines supercar with 1930s robber-baron airplane, to create a gestalt from speed, fine leather, Chronoswiss instruments and aeronautics. The C12 gets from zero to 60 in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed that knocks fairly hard on the threshold of 200 mph (193).

This is one SWEET ride! Open road, here I come!!!!!!!:D

And to Begin ROUND 10

1931 Bentley 4.5 Liter Supercharged 2/3 seater Boat Tail Roadster

This 1931 "blower" (supercharged) Bentley was one of only 50 made, and one of only two or three to carry coachwork by Gurney Nutting. The car's distinctive boat-tail body and green paint eventually earned it the nickname "Green Hornet."

Sometimes, you just gotta go old school. Real old school.

That doesn't really seem right 9 rounds into the draft, I'm sure others have altered their list because that car was picked. It could cause a chain reaction.

And with my next pick I'm going back to the 70s for the:

1972 (Ford) DeTomaso Pantera

What can I say? I freaking loved this car.

The Pantera was the result of an Argentinian racing driver (Alejandro De Tomaso), Italian engineering and American muscle. The styling was handling by Tom Tjarda while Giampaola Dallara was responsible for the structural design. Looking at the vehicle, it greatly resembles that of the Lamborghini offspring. The reasoning for this resemblance could be attributed to Dallara who also aided in the designing of the Lamborghini Miura.

The DeTomaso Pantera was conceived with a full monocoque chassis layout and is built around Ford's then-new 5.7-liter (351 cubic-inch) Cleveland V-8. The new V8 was mated to a ZF fully synchronized 5-speed transaxle with limited slip, and rated at 310 horsepower.

2008 - Hummer H2

Probably going to get a bit of flack for this because it's either a love or a hate relationship with this car. I for one love it if I had to drive on bad roads. I never really drive big cars (I love sports cars) but if I was the last person alive you gotta believe this would be tops on my list to go 4x4 (along with a few others in the toyota family).

I am going to be at the gun show today in Reno. Not sure if I will be back tonight (friday night) or Sat night. I should be back fri night though. So my pick might be a few hours late (if I have another before I return)

Are we skipping Bozz again and going straight to Gary?
Yes. I'm not going to penalize bozz at all when he returns, so he can fill in all the picks he missed as soon as he's back. The thread has been progressing so well, though, that it just seems non-productive to have it come to a grinding halt while the clock ticks off for someone we know is gone...
